Evil
-by - Bob Atkinson

evil creeps in slowly
to minds of patron saints
who feel themselves above reproach
with agony born of hate

hate derived from competition
something useful in our time
these imperious, useless people
believe there lies no crime

no crime in attacking those who don't
believe in what they see
as evident truths
or life began with seed

seed of the uncorrupt
a seed which cannot be
a seed which germinates with time
by arrogance and greed

while in truth we find
no purity in a bunch
who find not love in their hearts
not gentle in their touch

for no faith can survive
as true or bold, sincere
when love leaves the mind
and hate becomes one's cheer

Thanks edubirdie,

Was trying to demonstrate the verb "to be" is, am, was, were, and a lot of "the's" aren't necessary as they degrade one's word crafting skills.
