Now, not because I am black and the president is black. I want an honest comment from all...what is your take on what he has done for Americans?

I dare say I have stirred the pot...so to speak. But happy that there will always be a forum for people to express their views and maybe learn something from what others has to say. I respect all views here and commend everyone for standing by what they believe in. I for one, do believe that the president has taken up the dirty mantle from Mr. Bush and has tried his best to launder it to as close as he can get to being perfect. One does not get a business that's going down the drain and re-establish it in a jiffy, how more so, a country with its many sectors to address. I again applaud all for their contribution and hope some of us learnt something here. One love to all.

The choice is clear, ...the right wants to grow the economy "top-down" calling programs that help the middle class "handouts"....HeadStart/jobs training/Pell Grants for college bound kids/early childhood development education/aid for our Country's mentally ill (in my family) and disabled......future elimination of Medicare with something called "voucher-care"......this BUILT AMERICA! MY GOOD AND JUST AMERICA! NOT JUST FOR THE WEALTHY.....BUT THE CHANCE FOR EVERYONE TO REACH THEIR DREAMS! jimbo

I believe that the American People are smart enough to see the real problems. He got and will get my vote because "We the People" are proud to work for the good of all. Listening to the campaign reminded me of a quote by Churchill "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on".

Americans need to put prejudice and hate aside and look at the bigger picture...is the man delivering, or isn't he? Keeping in mind what he got to work with in the first place. Thanks Tom for your input!

Upgraded military housing, engaging the Middle East in peace talks for the first time in history, FDA now regulates tobacco, more loans are now available to small businesses, paid out of pocket for White House living quarters remodeling, ended media blackout on war casualties, families of fallen soldiers now have expenses paid when coming to meet the body of their fallen family member at Dover AFB. After voting for him in 2008, i thought it was a mistake until I researched facts. He will have my vote in 2012. BMC Vince Suzadail Jr. USNR-Ret.

Wasteful spending military cutbacks, stopped a number of ultra rich tax shelters off shore, upgraded military health facilities, equal pay enforced for women, housing rescue plan, re-engaged the Antarctic treaties, expanded SCHIP healthcare for children, instituted a national health care plan, ended NO-BID defense contracts, established a new cyber security office, pushing for energy reform, pushing for education reform, lowered drug costs for seniors, instituted a new focus on mortgage fraud, saved the USA from another great depression through the bank bailouts, kept us out of Syria and Iran, ended the $2billion a day war in Iraq. New energy policies in place.

Hi, Joy. Obama has tried hard to brings those winds of change. He didn't start the war on terrorism, but he did a lot to protect the American citizens here and oversea. He had submitted the Health Plan with the hope that I would have been approved, but it was rejected by the Congress. I have appreciated his good intention. Obama is the President of a new generation and all these teenagers look to him for change, and should I admit is a true gentleman: an epitome of class! God bless him and America! Thanks for sharing your blog, Joy. Love, Andrew.

I am not American, however I think he was left a heck of a mess and has done as well as possible. I think he will do more if people are open to his ideas, ie- Good health care. My cousin lives in Michigan and we spend alot of time debating politics. Lee

This Canuck just dropped by to say that from this side of the fence, your President seems well spoken and intelligent, and most Canadians think him as moral AND broad minded. Now, lol, I have no idea who is a republican and who is a democrat. I don't even know what that means. But I can tell you the difference between Liberals, Conservatives and The New Democratic Party as well as the Parti Quebecois and the Green Party. We are having an election tomorrow, provincial. Back to your politics, from a Canadian point of view, your current president seems to have brought a level of maturity and thoughtfulness that is recognized by other nations, not an easy task. Hey, our PM is a bonehead. LOL.

LOL Craig...I'll be careful..remember I'm an anarchist at heart, I don't trust authorities of any kind! An odd Democrate too for I'm so far left I'm almost a Libertarian! I try to take care of me..and if someone needs help I help. I don't scold or blame them for needing help and if I can help it makes me happy! Right now I like total self sufficientcy OFF the grid..but it will never happen for me TOO old.

Frank is partially right. The problem is us. We want to buy everything: fancy cars, big houses, etc. Then, when we can't pay for them we blame the government or whoever is in power. When we get mad, we bicker and fight (like congress). We have to govern ourselves morally and fiscally FIRST and not blame the government...WE are the government.

Frank, the government is supposed to govern, not rule citizens. It had limited powers when established. It has usurped individual rights and freedoms to put everyone on an equal footing. But the truth is some people get sick. Their families used to step in and help out, but no longer do. You are correct is saying we are selfish and greedy. If we took care of our own, the governmnet would not have to.

I for one see a strong, intellegent, GOOD man..I am proud he is my president and I haven't been proud of a Pres. since Jimmy Carter. He has made sure the US joins the rest of the 'civilized world' and takes care that ALL its people have some HEALTHCARE. He stands for woman's freedom of choice and for the decision to marry or not marry to be ALSO a personal one between 2 people, no matter the sex being given EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW. He has attempted to help states repair the infrastructure..MAN did my road HAVE pot-holes!!!Ohhh I could go on but let's hear others.

My big concern is the debt, the deficit that adds to the debt everryday, and what if China calls in its bonds. How will he handle that? That is what I want to know from both candidates, and they are fussingover having God's name in the platform or not. God may save our souls, but he does not but bonds. It China does call them in, the government may seize our 401-K accounts to pay them (legal) and then we will not have retirement. Social Security is about bankrupt but they are buying hollow point bullets (?) - to do what? I think it is time to go pray.

Sorry, that was meant to be "win at not failing"
Joy Wellington

Joann, no matter which side wins, there will always be uncertainties as to the hows, wheres and whys. No government comes into power and gets everything right. The thing to do is to choose who will better win at failing.

being black pink or cerise is of no import to me.....but the world in general was truly impressed that a black guy could actually ( not theoretically) become president....nex t thing which will impress the world is a woman in the oval office....my ten cents

Just as well as any other president, I guess. I think we expect too much from presidents. Based on how our government works, they really have limited power. Anyway, when he took over, things were in such a mess that we knew it was a lose-lose situation.

Team PoetrySoup, I agree with you that the man got a sh** box to clean up, but to say it was sure to be a lose-lose situation is condescending. The man did well and the country could have been in worse situation had it been some other people, so, I wouldn't say it is a lost.
