Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held).  A song was created from her lyrics "Honeymoon Serenade" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDWxc4cpHDc) and two movies have been made featuring the poetry of Andrea Dietrich: "A Tale of Fire and Ice" (a 4 min. Z-Film Fest Project, 2014) and the full length movie "Six Days of Sistine" in which 20 poems of Ms. Dietrichs serve as the thoughts of two characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Elarica Johnson (directed by Richard J. Perry, 2019) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7710360/

About a month ago, I had won an HM in Jerry's song contest and he very nicely went ahead and put my poem to music as well as his three top placed winners (https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/words_ive_never_spoken_335345

I was impressed with what he did. He told me he'd be pleased to do others for me, and I really didn't know what to give him, and then I recalled many years ago, I has written lyrics called Half Baked Sinner (posted just today). He made a cute country tune out of it. In both songs Jerry did for me, the singers and music are amazing. Thanks so much, Jerry. Two others who created songs for me were Ryan Lucas with my Honeymoon Serenade and Mark Massey with my poem Love Becomes an Ocean.  A big thanks to Ryan and Mark as well.

I also want to thank others here who are creating songs out of people's poetry or doing it for themselves. I know for sure that Maria Williams and John Hamilton do this. Also I am aware that Crystol Woods has songs (I believe she does ithem by herself). Such great talent you all possess who can take lyrics and put them to music. Maybe AI is involved. I don't really know, but it's what I hear is happening in the music world now. I'm just so grateful to have at least four poems now that have been made into songs!

Who else here has some great tunes at Soup now?

Thanks Andrea, I just was so amazingly happy when I did my first song that I just wanted to share that feeling with others. It all began with Eileen's beautiful poems , they just cry out to become songs. I want to check out Eileen's FB page and vid. I am currently working on videos to accompany my music which is currently posted on youtube. I'm also working creating Karaoke versions of songs I generate. Take care everyone.

Hi, Andrea. Lovely blog. All my five songs were done by Jerry Curtis. He's so kind to have done that for me. I am so grateful. :) I actually paid a friend of a student of mine to make it into a video. I'm not sure how she did it, but you viewed it on Facebook. I'm happy with the results. People are sharing it on FB. Makes me feel...affirmed. I'm happy for you. You're a wonderful poet, and I'm glad others recognize that. Big Hugs.

Congratulations, that is so cool. I did not get response on FB like you did with my lovely first song Jerry did for me. But a long time ago, my Honeymoon Serenade song got a lot of traffic. There are even videos a few bands made of it (but only one of the video showcases my lyrics, the other videos are just the music only)
