I have loved poetry for a number of years but in past 16 years have started to write my own but am still a beginner in learning the craft. My favorite poets are Emily Dickinson, William Blake, Robert Frost, Katherine Mansfield, and Christina Rossetti.
I also like to read, and listen to classical music but also like other types of music, watching films on DVD.
I am 69 and have been happily married for 33 years to Christine and love to regularly attend church and enjoy the countryside together.
MY TESTIMONY
I am a Christian and have been for 39 years, so here's my story.
First of all, I was adopted at six months of age and have had a severe stammer all of my life although not particularly bad before starting school.
I met my first wife Jean when I was in my mid-20s, Jean was a Christian who attended the Salvation Army where I first heard the gospel and believed it but only in my head.
After a series of decisions made for Jesus which proved to be flawed and false but I started to read the Bible but I was still not willing to accept the gospel offer of salvation.
Jean and I got married in 1981 and after less than a year of marriage, Jean died suddenly, on that evening of Jean's passing I prayed for God to forgive me of my sins and received Christ becoming a new creature in Christ.
Some nine years later having met Christine we got married in 1990 and have been very happily married for 34 years.
God has been faithful to us in many ways directing, leading and guiding us in all His ways.
We always think on Jeremiah Ch. 29 v. 11-14 which God has used so often in our lives together in giving us a future and a hope in Him for God knows the plans He has for us all.
God has been helpful to me so often to fight through my stammer and been able to accept my situation helping me and reminding me so often His love overcomes all things.
My favorite text is Hebrews Ch. 13 v.6. 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’
I have great peace in my heart the Lord Jesus is with me and surrounding me in His love and wisdom for the future and great assurance of His will for me. Thinking much on two passages of scripture in particular.
Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the LORD all the day. Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
(Proverbs 23:17-18 ESV)
But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
(1 Timothy 6:6-10 ESV)
In the past number of years have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and have finished treatment of radiotherapy and hormone treatment so with the result being my PSA now being 0.2 and the consultant reckons 85% of cancer is gone so praise God for answered prayers so now just needing yearly check-ups.

So this is my story, so pleased to have met many supportive and great friends here on PS and enjoy reading and writing on this great site.

Remembering the sad passing of Beth Beverley (Toronto, Canada)

Blog Posted by Gordon Mcconnell: 5/28/2021 6:39:00 AM

Hi Everybody here on PS,

It is with profound sorrow that I let you know Beth Beverley (Elizabeth)  has passed away. The Lord called her home the weekend before last. She had requested that no resuscitation efforts be made when the time came, and we understand she passed peacefully.  Beth wished to return home so that she would be able to rest next to her mother at the Presbyterian cemetery. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be no funeral at this time, however, later in the year, a Celebration of Life gathering will be held in her honour. She was a beautiful, selfless lady and a true, loyal friend. particularly for the many children, she helped throughout her life, they meant everything to her.  we remember her with love and wonderful memories of her sunny personality and good works.

As with me, I'm sure those of you who knew her through her gifted pen here on PS will have been truly blessed by reading many of her pieces.

I just wanted to let those of you who knew her here on poetrysoup.com of her sad passing and indeed we'll miss her encouraging and uplifting comments she passed on to all those she sought to spur on.

Trust we'll all miss our dear Beth, our thoughts and condolences go to her family and friends at this time especially her dear son Michael.

Blessings to you all,

Gordon McConnell

that is sad about her poetry. I know people who removed poems on purpose (not just accidentally) and I believe they said there was no way to get them back. So unfortunate!

Hi Andrea, Sorry I thought after I had written the piece on Beth's passing that I should have said something about her poems, well about a couple of months before she died she accidentally deleted her account and of course lost all her material. Beth had said she still had them all on her laptop and I think had intended to put them back on for she opened a new account but sadly she never got her poems back on again. I don't know if PS keeps a copy of your account even if you've deleted it, so do you know how these things work on PS? have a blessed weekend, Gordon
