Alison A Smith Biography

Born on an orchard in Central Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia.

Life was a struggle but with 4 siblings there was always something going on.

I have used poetry all my life to guide my thoughts and decipher the world around me.

I spend a lot of time not speaking to a soul. Words on a page have become my companions.

I am "Alone in a crowd".

Dear Alison, so many strange things seem to happen online these days. I will say, same names are common out there. There's only one you, that's for sure. : )

Alison is back ... Piscera felt out of place and ran for cover. Seems I had too many dear friends who like Alison better.❤️

LOL well I knew it was you straight away... a rose by any other name.... But I do love the lilting sound of Alison more than the sharpness of Piscera,,,,

A bit of a silly question, but when responding to your comments, am I still ok to call you Alison or would you prefer to be called Piscera? Obviously any new members to soup in future will only know your changed name. I don't want to confuse things but at the same time, you might want those of us who know to still use your name... ☺️😉

All who are now my friends are very welcome to continue using Alison. As Piscera is really only to stop any confusion. I appreciate your query.❤️

Name changed ..... Meet Piscera The Poet .... formally the unknown but mistaken for a famous Alison Smith 👀

The 'K' would have been enough as the Canadian poet by the name of Alison Smith has a distinctive different poetic voice. The house remembers what the body forgets— the sound of rain on a roof that is not ours. It comes from her collection 'Six Mats and One Year' (published by Gaspereau Press, 2014).

Hmm, I don't really know how I would handle it either, but I am sorry! Hope you can get this straight for everyone. Love to you, gifted friend

Hi, that is a problem for sure . . . lucky for me my name Constance is old fashion and there are not many of us, I am not Connie, ever and never. And the way I spell my last name is different than my family who spell it Lafrance the way most people do .. I like some of the suggestions here, especially adding a second name or initial, think of something poetic and use it for all places you write, perhaps even Facebook, but it is hard to change your name on Facebook, hope it all works out ❤️

This makes me grateful my name is not common, and I think I am the only Andrea Dietrich who is a poet. My maiden name is Miller. I imagine I would have problems like you if I were still going by Miller! I think you got some great advice from those with comments below!

Alison, just googled' alison smith australian poet' & top search (after AI summary header ) shows a PoetrySoup link to you.Clearly your surname is an issue so if you have a second (Christian name ,if not invent one for poetic purpose) & use the initial with Alison whenever you post poettry anywhere ,inc here @PS .(It would mean changing it officially here also) Cheers😊

I've the same experience when people search for images of me. At least Grok 3 and now 4 have my history off pat. I would not worry about it as PS is very much a closed circuit, eg the very first couple of blogs you posted might have given rise to your elevated status? For example: "What is the poetry you write?'

Perhaps do an internet search (not Google as it has lost its touch) for "Alison Smith Australian Poet"? Recommended: Grok, Gemini, Copilot, etc

Welcome to the club, I have been a businessman, anthropologist and Mesoamericanist scholar, author to many a book, and so on, and my last name is not that common. Concerning your last name and how popular it is, you just found the tip of the iceberg, or more like, icebergs.

Keith--the leather and whips were only for special guests back in the day, I am now retired from that. Did not get chased by Nazis, but I once did business and fought the Mayor in Detroit. You should do a search of your name and see what you find.

Wow, Robbo! A man of culture and science. So cool. I knew there was more to the myth and legend behind that creepy doll’s face. Do you wear a fedora and leather jacket and crack a bullwhip too? Do you get chased by Nazis and giant boulders? 😂

One remedy, since your first name is also common, change it to something rare. Something like sdfjlafjdjal or Alison84984009.

Relax and sit back with a gin and tonic. That’s a remedy that always works for me.
