Chapter 8
How do you define happiness?
What is your definition?
“State of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy.” – wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
All I ever wanted was to be happy. I think a lot of people can relate to just wanting to be happy. But what is happiness and can we really obtain it. Life changes everyday can we really feel happiness 365 days. Is there possibly a happiness account for each us? And the more we do the morally correct things according to God’s law rather than man’s philosophy can we add to this account. Life is almost a setup for heartbreak and disappointment. And our very own fallible, fragile natures almost guarantee it. Someone you love today is an enemy tomorrow. Someone you love today dies the next. Is happiness a progression as described in the definition above?
There are over 6 billion people in the world today and for each a very unique perspective and purpose for being here on this sphere we call earth. So, can I share 1:5,999,999,999 perspective and insight on the matter? I tried so hard to find a state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy in relationships with beautiful women. Just to be disillusioned again and again and confront the horrible truth sometimes that it is more beast than beauty. I had an intense desire to connect with someone who held the same goals and ambitions in mind; one whom could be a life partner and we invest in each other lives to the fullest extent. But maybe happiness is realizing that life is but a vapor and we are here for a specific reason to achieve a specific purpose. Maybe it is realizing that there is an all powerful God that knows best for us. Realizing that he has a plan for each and every one us but we have to be willing to tune into what that vision for our life is all about. The more we tune into his plan and our not own maybe we get closer to understanding what happiness is all about. The further we move away from him and our purpose for being here we move further away from feeling completeness and satisfaction. But I am selfish and incurably preoccupied with myself and therefore this habit will always oust me from the very thing I desire.
The more we yield to our wonderful heavenly father the more we can experience love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. He has ordained the commandments and declarations we shall live by and the more freely we apply these principles in our lives the more we build our happiness account. We can learn like Paul to be content in every situation knowing that Jesus is with us. What I was searching for was a relationship with God through his son Jesus Christ. Sin is our real enemy that seeks to destroy us and left unchecked will progressively lead us to death itself.
