Dear Talented Poets!

Blog Posted:2/23/2010 6:41:00 AM
There was a time when poets and writers created history by penning down their creative, unmatchable words. Time has changed and today, unlike yesteryears, things have changed drastically. In olden days, poets and writers had their status and their works were appreciated. If we notice today, then talented poets and beautiful words are lost somewhere into the unknown abyss. However, websites like PoetrySoup have emerged and have helped them in many ways. Internet is one of the best ways to let people know what you think and feel, but there are still countless people who do not use internet or do not get time to read. Book is the only way, but there are many books by many new and old writers and poets; and we must find some amazing way to reach people out there! Still, many talented words are lurking around and dying in obscurity...and they should shine, the world should know about the poets and their work. Personally, I want to unveil such people and their work. I have always wanted to do but did not get a chance and now, I guess, it is high time and we must do something about it. We cannot let great words die, we must unleash our talent and must bring the lost era back where poets and writers ruled the world of literature and held their invincible position!

Syed...I agree with Dane Ann...too much is already done for us these days that we should be doing ourselves and I think we have become caught up in the frenzy of the 'modern' world and have become lazy and complacent...Attention spans are growing shorter day by day...I can't help thinking about old Abe Lincoln reading by candlelight because he had no internet, cell phones, texts, twitters (whaever that means) etc. - Tim

Hi Syed, I think the world has become so full of activity and motion that poets and writers might not be as bold as in olden times. There is too much self-centered thinking and not enough quiet time where pondering poetry would become part of life itself. It would be marvelous to leave a body of work that rose up to claim its purpose. The purpose of reaching fellows, loving and sharing hearts with uplifting, with lessons, with with the fire of life burning away decay, indifference, and indignation...Invincible? I think I am too humble to ever feel invincible.

"Held their invincible position!" Hahaha, that's awesome! It makes me feel like a He-Man character. I mean that in the highest respect possible. Infact, and I'm not making this up, but the guy who created He-Man taught me in my first screenwriting class. So there. That proves nothing.

Markets are available to share poetry though each person has to find the right ones to fit his or her style. Networking with other writers is the greatest way to find out about publishing opportunities--though they aren't often of the paying variety. I wish everyone the best whatever their dreams are regarding their writing. Karen

Yes, Syed, Poetry Soup helps restore the power to share our thoughts in verse. This is a wonderful site and I enjoyed reading your biography. It's so nice to meet a "humanist." I like the way that sounds. And you are a man of great diversity if you enjoy both poetry and martial arts! Enjoyed your blog. Love, Carolyn

Great blog, Syed. SO very true all that you are saying. It has always saddened me too how great poets are dying in obscurity because the only ones we can find in bookstores are the ones that died hundreds of years ago and the only modern ones I ever find are often contemporary poets who write so strangely, I cannot even follow their words! I would love to see a renewal in the interest of great lyrical writing and traditional forms used in a modern way, but there seem to be "magazines" that serve that purpose. I do love free verse as well. Glad to learn about you from your bio. LUv, Andrea

All, nothing is impossible as everything has some or the other solution. I am working on this and I will, for sure, let you all know how we are going to show the world our talent. I will write the solution/option in my next blog ! :)

Nice to meet your Syed, I totally agree with you. I have always said, the life of a poem on here, is less than a few hours, before it is lost in the abys, now how do we change that???.. Constance, A Rambling Poet...

I,along with you am very thankful for this site. I see the writings of many beautiful and gifted people and feel that there should be more of a growing awareness and appreciation for their work.

a great blog and i 100% agree with you. its depressing that people with a gift for writing are overlooked, but people can go on big brother and get famous for being an idiot. there is something wrong with this modern world.
