About Andrea Dietrich
(Click for Poet Info...)

Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held).  A song was created from her lyrics "Honeymoon Serenade" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDWxc4cpHDc) and two movies have been made featuring the poetry of Andrea Dietrich: "A Tale of Fire and Ice" (a 4 min. Z-Film Fest Project, 2014) and the full length movie "Six Days of Sistine" in which 20 poems of Ms. Dietrichs serve as the thoughts of two characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Elarica Johnson (directed by Richard J. Perry, 2019) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7710360/

Thanks & Congrats to Published Poets: A Special thanks to Emile Pinet

I thought I would finally take the opportunity to thank some of the Soupers from whom I was either gifted a book or won a book from in a contest, or whose book I was able to purchase easily at a reasonable price. I rarely buy things online because of past issues with identity theft; however, I have been able to buy a few books with gift cards I received. Anyway, I give a big thanks to the following poets: Line Gauthier for her beautiful coffee table books. The one called “Lilacs” is very small and contains haiku along with lovely pictures. Thanks to Craig Cornish for including me in his book of sonnets called “154 by 16 poets: English Sonnets.” The price online is very reasonable. Thanks to Edward Ibeh for his fine book “A Glimpse of a Promising Day.” I enjoyed the way he included definitions of poems he’d written by naming the form at the back of the book. Thanks to Jan Allison for her cute little book jam-packed with humorous poems “A Giggle a Day Can Chase the Blues Away.” Also thanks to Eve Roper for coming up with anthologies of nursery rhymes written by her many contest winners. Such a great way to support the poet community with books that have creative colorful covers. I also received a well-organized E-book of Suzette Richards and an inspirational book of religious verse from Regina Mcintosh (I just noticed she now has three books for purchase). There are some poets now deceased or who have left Soup whose books I also have acquired in my collection of poetry books: Connie Marcum Wong and Timothy Hicks to name a few. There are other poets with whom I did trades of my chapbooks with theirs a long time ago, but now my supply of old chapbooks has been depleted.

Finally I would like to draw attention to Emile Pinet who so generously has been gifting his several books as prizes to winners of his contests. He has even included in his reference notes the invented forms of many of us here at Soup. It’s so nice to see a few of my inventions noted at the back of his book along with those of my peers and of course, classic forms are listed and defined as well. For Emile, I have received four of your books now and I am so impressed by the layout and organization of your poetry!

Most of these books can be found on Amazon by using the author’s name to track them down. If I forgot to mention anybody who gifted me a book, please forgive me. Thanks to everyone at Soup who contributes their work to the world of poetry!

ADDED NOTE: Please read in comments below the names of other Soupers who have published books.

Dearest Andrea, Hello, I hope you are doing well, I know how busy life can be caring for a spouse or any family member. I too became overwhelmed, and behind in so many things, and projects galore. I wanted to thank you for the sweet comment you left on my "Steppin Off" poem. It makes me happy to see that poets care. I love PS and am shooting for November? That's when I shall return, to the contests especially and participating once again. I noticed your new blog , Congratulations to all who have published…I have bought Milton’s, Eve’s, PS anthology, Ann Foster, Jan’s. I want you to know that my poet friend Robert Gorelick has also published his book "Doggy Limerick Circus" you can read all about it in my "“Robert Gorelick ‘Doggy Limerick Circus’” 3/24/2024 . It would be nice to mention him, he deserves recognition, he is social on this site but a bit shy to promote himself. His book is on Amazon! Yay Thank you, sweet Andrea Miss you guys!

Terry Flood has also self published Andrea and his help and advice on self publishing was invaluable to me when I was working on my first book:-) The late Paul Schneiter was also so supportive and encouraging me to publish my funny poems. I know he had also published books . I must also mention Shadow Hamilton. I am sure there will be many more names you can add Andrea. hugs Jan xx

Well, I was not going to add more names because I would be sure leave someone off, so I only mentioned those whose books I have acquired either as gift or exhange with my own chapbooks. Terry is an awesome guy. I don't really recall Paul S. He must have been a really good friend for you.

Thank you, Andrea, for mentioning my books. I am encouraged by the opportunities this site offers poets. I have learned so much from reading the words of truly talented poets such as yourself, and I am pleased to present their formats in my books. I believe Poets are brothers and sisters at heart, and I love the inclusion this site offers.

Greg Barden’s “Melancholy Moon” was just published on Amazon. It contains 136 poems across 198 pages. We can read Greg’s poetry on PoetrySoup, so we know he’s an excellent poet. The greater majority of his poems in the book are not on PoetrySoup. I have a copy and recommend it. Andrea, your blog is very encouraging!

Mark Massey has two books on Amazon. “This War of the Brothers” based on the American Civil war, and “This War of Fathers” based on the American Revolutionary War. Both are poetic masterclasses written as an “Heroic Crown of Crowns”—each with over 200 sonnets and over 3000 lines of iambic pentameter. I own both books, and they are exceptional.

Please. If anybody has a Soup author they wish to promote , do it in my comments. I only was focusing mainly on poets who gave me their books, but it would be cool to hear of others out there who got books of their friends.
