Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held).  A song was created from her lyrics "Honeymoon Serenade" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDWxc4cpHDc) and two movies have been made featuring the poetry of Andrea Dietrich: "A Tale of Fire and Ice" (a 4 min. Z-Film Fest Project, 2014) and the full length movie "Six Days of Sistine" in which 20 poems of Ms. Dietrichs serve as the thoughts of two characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Elarica Johnson (directed by Richard J. Perry, 2019) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7710360/

Please EDIT before I judge my contest: ONE LINE ONLY

Blog Posted by Andrea Dietrich: 2/25/2024 2:51:00 PM

I rarely look at my contests until I get ready to judge. I was really shocked to discover that more than half of the entries are more than one line. The main rule was portrayed in the title of my contest; One Line of Alliteration: The Name Game..  Anyway, I am going to give everyone time to redo their entry for me. I am too busy to judge the contest right now anyway.

Please edit for ONE LINE only. I gave two examples of how to do it at the end of my instructions. Those were simply examples. I did not mean for people to write two separate lines of their own. Also, most of the incorrect entries are simply going onto the next line. The whole point was to do a good job inside of one line.

I am sure there are many really nice entries that went beyond one line. Please let your friends know about my blog here if you think they are not seeing this. I will give HM's to those who wrote nicely but went over the one-line limit and have not fixed things before I get around to judging. Those using more than two lines I will sadly have to N/A

Always the viewing area for me has appeared the same way the person has put the poem when I see it on my computer. I think people using phones have to be more aware of what they are doing.

Hi Andrea. My single line entry wraps around depending on which screen I am viewing (phone, iPad, computer) making it appear as 2 separate lines on some. It is only 12 words, but I will remove a few for the sake of brevity. An HM would be an honor. :) Thanks for the do over time! :)

I tested my own poem on my computer and it looked like one word would wrap around to the next line, but once I posted it, it was fine. So you can play around with it and try to make it fit just one line

I used my phone to post so not sure how long mine looks but removed some words just incase. So kind of you to inform. Thank you dear andrea

If you only have a phone and it is only one line, you could be fine because the phone gives you less words than the computer. So if it is one line on your phone, I don't see how it would be over one line on the computer. How cool you can be in Malaysia!

yes, the phone is not a good place to do it from. Do you have a computer available. I see poems from my computer, and even then, only 8 people have produced one line, similar to what i should have asked for; a monoku. Good luck, INk.
