I grew up in Texas, where I developed a love for art at a very young age.
At twenty-one I moved to a small town in Oregon with my family.
And I opened my own small business creating signs and oil paintings.
At thirty-eight I decided to go back to school
and attended college taking a course in Early Childhood Education.

that's a good idea to ask his family. I am very sure that if he was in your first book, he would love to be very much in this one!

Eve, perhaps his daughter can give permission. Go to his Facebook page which is still there and see if you can send her a message, or the eulogy she posted. It is on his facebook page also. It would be sad to not include his poems. blessings, Constance

Thank you, Constance. I will try doing that. I thought I left a message, but it's not showing.

This brings me to something that I've not thought of before, namely, have non-members got an avenue open to the poets here on PS to gain their written permission before including it in a blog or other publications? If not, TPS might consider this. People in general are quite good at first gaining my written permission (via my website) before using my poems, or even translating same.

Eve's publishers are playing by the book and will not contravene copyright acts. One may use extracts (not full works/poems) with due acknowledgement, but not otherwise as stated below. (I am commenting here as this topic has been covered in previous blogs in which Milt was an avid participant.)

Eve, you could take an excerpts from his poems in quotations, I am not sure the legalities but would think that would be allowed.

I am not sure I can do that, because it is still violating his work without permission. When I first up loaded the first book to be reviewed and to be published the publisher asked me for all the Permission slips of all the poets. Thank goodness I had it in one file. I uploaded all the sign slips to the publisher and of course they excepted. Thank you so much for your idea

What a shame Eve, I know Milton would have been proud to have his work showcased in your book. As Suzette has pointed out you'd have to get in touch with whoever is managing his estate for permission to use them. Tom

Yes, I think Milton would want them all published like he did the first book or he wouldn't want to write for my contest. Maybe someone might let them know.
Date: 3/5/2023 9:17:00 PM
Eve, you raise a valid question. Copyright extends to 50 years after the person had passed away, and 70 years postmortem in the USA and Canada. I wonder if one could get written permission to use poetry from those who are managing the estate? It makes me think that it is an asset like any other and we need to make provision for it ... Yes, Milton wrote many fine poems and I think that his memory would be honoured if you should include his work in your book.

Maybe TPS could consider an entry on our submission forms where poets would grant permission of certain poems to be used in future publications. I, for one, have picked up numerous of my poems being shared (backlinks in blogs, etc) with due recognition to my copyright, but without my written permission. One poem in particular was sourced from here on PS -- I can tell as I make each poem I share on the Internet just that slightly different. No problem.

You word very wise. I am heartfelt because of his work. I know for a fact he would have wanted them in the upcoming book. I do own a signed book he did published. Thank you so much for your thoughts ... Blessings

I can definitely understand your disappointment with not being able to include them Eve, I believe he would have been thrilled to see them published.

Hello Sweetie, hope you are doing well. Yes, Milton did want them we'd discussed before. He wrote six poems for the first book; Myrtle the Turtle Little Lulu Grows Up, Humpity-Dumpity, Diddily-Do, Do It Again, and Helping Daddy Understand
