CHEERS

Blog Posted:4/16/2017 4:48:00 PM

Cyndi in a blog comment below correctly makes an analogy that PS reminded her of that great show 'Cheers' where you drop by and 'everyone knows your name ....and a few are glad you came '!

So just as a bit of Easter  fun who would you nominate from the cast here on PS to play the top ten characters therein? Here's a reminder of the key names

Diane/ Coach/ Norm/ Cliff / Sam/ Carla / Rebecca/ Lilith/ Frasier and Woody

..or better yet who would  you volunteer to play in the show...

If we widen this and go back a little more there are perhaps many more 'identikits' from PS on the Rowan and Martin Laugh In ' which for me ' broke the mould' for US comedy ,especially so for my inclination for one liners (the latter subsequently overflowed into my poetry (as another blog of mine revealed earlier))

Laugh-In was a great show, Brian. : ) Lots of great comics and characters. Boy, those were the days.... The show's first year on TV was 50 years ago.

If we include the Cheers 'spinoff' then Jan can remind me of Daphne, and perhaps Keith for the 'oz' actor who played her 'English!' brother and perhaps Ruben for Martin..as for the doorman ..and Bob Briscoe well there are a few to nominate here... but again perhaps better not ( I would not wish to offend and spoil what is meant to be a fun blog)

I recognised a few of Frasier and Norm traits within my personality and could nominate a couple for Carla and Diane but I'd better not! But I would say Frank sometimes reminds me of Sam!

Of course Norm was an accountant t like me
Date: 4/16/2017 8:26:00 PM
I see myself as Norm with the same signature drawl-Oh I shouldn't have another beer ... oh what the heck. Chris reminds of a Sam, a romantic, Casanova type seemingly racing to comment mostly on/with women poets. Jan seems to fit Dianne, sweet and innocent, a purring cat. Annette seems to keep all the ducks in a row reminiscent of Carla (?). Brian seems to be a Frasier type, articulate, studious, yet witty. There you have it. When's the reunion?

You are very perceptive Connie(about me thst is!).Sorry the reunion will have to be 'digital' on the set of Cheers.

I don't know the show well enough to say. But if you picked the Roseanne show, I might want to play HER (at least her skinnier version of herself!)

awww. that was sweet of you. My personality with CHILDREN lies between the two characters!

I've got a seven year old, so we've seen the movie "Inside out." In a lot of ways we have ALL these characters inside us, at times, all those alter-egos. I've met a fair share of "coaches" here ... tough/tenders, frank by not unfeeling.

A lot of Norm and a fair bit of Cliff.

Keith, have to laugh - I thought of Coach, but down deep he was such a nice guy that I just couldn't do it.

Okay. I'll fess up. I'm the love child of Woody and Diane - the defensive side of Diane, self-esteem issues causing her to snip and snap when her feelings get hurt, and the hopelessly hopeful aspect of Woody.
Date: 4/16/2017 5:59:00 PM
I'm more a Roz from Frazier (too much mouth and attitude.) Charmaine is like Malta's version of Daphne, I think from that show. I could easily see Keith as Sam (funny, lighthearted) Woody is trusting, enthusiastic and optimistic which I see as characteristics of many soupers. Norm's easygoing, slightly cynical and wary at times. Cliff is detail oriented and curious, a little uptight. Frasier is a mishmash and I love that character...

I volunteer to be Saphron, the mystery novelist who lives in the studio apartment upstairs and visits the bar often... she likes the atmosphere.
