POETRY CONTESTS WINNERS a confession

I  would like to say for the   record that all the winners in the 270 + contests that I have run over 10 years here are all selected independently, without knowing the names until they are published on the ' Contest Winners Status ' link.

Clearly my choice is always subjective (as is everyone's who judges a contest here on PS( or elsewhere for that matter)and is govgerned by  my experience of reading and studying poetry both here and elsewhere and ...of course I confess a bias only to that extent.

Yes I know what I like! 

My thanks to all who support all my endeavours contests, blogs here on this excellent workshop.

PS has always been a great place to learn,develop and become a more experienced poet, a leader in that regard on the internet.Contests play a key part in that and I take pride in having been a part thereof over the past decade with my blogs and contests sponsorship.

Other than that , being a Christian and an imagist by inclination a certain enigmatic quality aka Emily Dickenson will always catch my attention

Perhaps as committed Christian I should also confess a bias that a well written poetic poem with a Christian message will always appeal

I believe reading poetry creates a unique 'as is moment' between me and the poet.It is on that basis that I select a poet to advance to roud 2 in the process,and similarly when I select to advance to the winner round.Each time is a unique 'as is ' moment and the impact can be different on each occasion.It is because poetry to me is an experience just like loking at a painting

Like Andrea,I have not managed figure out what you like, Brian, but I have decided to stop guessing and am now just selecting for entry what I consider good work on my part. If you choose it, that makes me very happy, of course. By the way, I meant to ask how you feel about entries of previously entered poems that didn't win. Since in each contest, you judge against different competing entries, is there a point? Or is it something you dislike? Anyway, thanks for hosting.

Agnes folk can enter an unplaced previous poem again in a later contest of mine if they so desire.

I believe you Brian. I have gone sometimes more than five times in a row with no wins and then suddenly I will get a few wins. I guess I can never know for sure what you like even though you tell us you go by "sound", ( I tend to think all my poetry is fairly rhythmical and often use alliteration, etc. so I think you are going by more than just sound) I think there is some added element that really draws you into a person's poem. I have not yet figured it out, but I am always happy when I win with you since I know you are not biased as a judge! In the end, it's all what the judge likes, and we all have different tastes, that is for sure!!

Yes Andrea, reciting aloud is the apex for me,but of course there are other aspects.At heart ,my first love ,I am an imagist.
