Andrea Dietrich Biography

Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held).  A song was created from her lyrics "Honeymoon Serenade" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDWxc4cpHDc) and two movies have been made featuring the poetry of Andrea Dietrich: "A Tale of Fire and Ice" (a 4 min. Z-Film Fest Project, 2014) and the full length movie "Six Days of Sistine" in which 20 poems of Ms. Dietrichs serve as the thoughts of two characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Elarica Johnson (directed by Richard J. Perry, 2019) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7710360/

that sounds familiar to me. What is its premise?
Date: 5/22/2014 10:51:00 AM
Nope, didn't get to watch Survivor-- if I'm not mistaken this was done in Cagayan here in the Philippines, right? I have never watched an episode of The Walking Dead. Even my student before watched that. Shucks... another one that people are really liking would be Game of Thrones, never also seen an episode of that, I live in a cave, haha. Oh, but I did see Breaking Bad. That was such an engaging series. I got hooked on 24 before, and also Prison Break. Monk and Murphy Brown were also great. Twilight Zone, ahh how I would love to watch that again, and Northern Exposure, I vaguely remember those shows but I recall liking those...

carrie, I am one of the idiots that stuck with Twin Peaks to the bitter and disappointing end, same as I did with Lost. Those are two shows I regret staying with!!!

Nikko, I finally got rid of HBO to save money. So I can't see Game of Thrones any more but it's ok. I always had a problem understanding who was who in that show. Did you know they revived 24? it is back on the air and in its second week. Don't know if I will watch it. I kind of got sick of that one.

Yay!!! "Northern Exposure" !!! That was such a terrific series...I loved that show..all those quirky characters.....and Chris was so sexy/charming.... (the DJ guy!)!!! LOL !! Many years ago, I got caught up in "Twin Peaks"....does anyone remember that one? Weird and offbeat...so different...talk about a dysfunctional town!!! LOL So nice to see you here, Nikko....thanks so much for the birthday wishes !!!

I guess I'm out here on a limb by myself, but one of my favs is "Downton Abby"...(oh yes....I know, my hubby calls it a glorified soap opera, but I love it)....another PBS series "Call The Midwife"...was excellent, but from a gal's point of view, so the guys would probably gag !! I got caught up with "Mad Men"...until this season, but it seems as if they are running out of steam this season. Also a huge fan of "The Good Wife"......but was shocked and soooo emotionally upset when they killed off the leading man early this season!! That was darn-right brutal to all of us who loved the sexual tension between the two characters!!!! OH GEEZE !

And yes, Downton Abbey! My mom especially likes that! Interesting characters. I am just so poor with remembering names.
Date: 5/22/2014 9:42:00 AM
I like "Survivorman", "Vikings", "Mountain Men", "Hell on Wheels" and "River Monsters" the most, I reckon. I've gotten into "Naked Castaway" lately too. I pretty much like most shows about wilderness survival, fishing, and shoot 'em up cowboy shows like "Hell on Wheels". "Vikings" doesn't really fall into those categories but I like it a lot. And of course, I like "The Walking Dead"

I used to watch "The A-Team" when I was young and my mom wasn't around...she had strict rules about TV. In 32 years I can't ever remember her watching a show or movie. So, when I did watch TV, which wasn't often, it was usually just me and my dad watching fishing or cooking shows. We both love to fish AND cook....;)
Date: 5/22/2014 8:55:00 AM
My current favorite is definitely the new "Cosmos" series hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, then "The Daily Show" and "Family Guy". The absolutely funniest TV show anywhere is "Mrs. Brown's Boys", a BBC sitcom. Sometimes my belly hurts from watching it. Loved many of the old series mentioned here, especially "Twilight Zone".

Roy, the times I was able to watch the Daily show, I really enjoyed it. I love the satire on that show. I also like Family Guy but there are just too many other shows that occupy my time so I don't watch it. It's good to see so many old Twilight Zone lovers here!!! Never saw Mrs. Brown's Boys. Will have to look for it.

PD, in one way I differ from you. I would never watch a series over again. I have no time for "re-runs' in my life. How would I ever get around to the hundreds of taped shows waiting for me every week if I were watching old ones over again? It's something I do not comprehend people doing. but at least you picked a great one to see over and over again!

Just a couple of weeks back, I went on over to the DNA COMICS, (mothers day weekends) I purchased the most expensive COMIC book on their shelf.... The Walking Dead, #10 copy out of 100....I paid $475.00.... It's a special edition, with Robert Kirkman's plus the artist autograph. Gosh, besides my kids, that's one of the most exciting things I own, Besides my 400.oo headphones, and Lady Death and Zena collections.

PD, you are ........... AWESOME! (BBC has one called IN the Flesh, but it is not nearly as scary)

I used to be a TV addict, years ago. One of my favourite shows nobody here probably watched. It was called "Sliders" and was a show about "sliding between alternative realities." I used to love "Bring Em Back Alive" with Bruce Boxleigtner about the real animal activist "Frank Buck" and managed to find a book by Mr Buck when I watched the show... very " 1950's matinee" feel to the show. I had a crush on Pierce Brosnan in the 80's thanks to "Remington Steele" (sigh) TODAY- I love the show "Castle." It has good characters, tension, plot and suspense. I still like "NCIS" - though without Zeva, it seems bland. I also like documentaries and PBS -- I'll be watching "Spice Trails" this week. It's about how the world changed because of spice. Spice actually is the reason people began to explore the world... me? Spice? Go figure! LOL... I like UK shows, too! I loved the show, "Monarch of the Glen" about a modern Laird of a crumbling Scottish castle. I watch about two shows a week, now. Recorded. I watch them with my hubby. My girl watches Treehouse or TVO (public television like PBS) for two hours a day (limits!!!) Her favourite show right now is Arthur... but she enjoys a show called "Finding things out" which is cool. Very educational but fun! We watch news about five times a week... enough to know what is going on around the world and locally. Love your blog! I used to be a survivor fan... just had my fill. Hubby and I are now borrowing movies from the library and have a "date afternoon" once a week! We love it! I just saw (LAUGH ANDREA!) Unstoppable last week. And the week before we saw Django (Holy moly!!!) I get to see the King's speech this week, (YEAH!)

Frank Buck lived his later years in my home town of San Angelo, Texas. He was quite the local celebrity.

hahahaha, I am laughing at the old movies just as you said I would. You and your family are watching good ones, Cyndi, and yes, Castle is one of the better detective shows on tv.

Hi Andrea - I'm right there with you on "The Walking Dead". Also loved "Breaking Bad" and old original "Twilight Zone“ episodes.
