Melancholy Subway Rider

Hot, grimy air, whispers violently through golden hair,
screeching rails crescendo,
carrying concurrent panic and peace.

In my mind’s eye,
my feet free themselves from the platform
hurling to a final violent calm.
I am held back by a force
No stabler than a spool of thread.

Today’s battle has been won,
My purple heart aches,
as war rages ceaselessly
against my half vandal brain.

I am tired
of this mental coup d’état
Soldiers slithering through the vortex of my psyche,
seducing the sanity I hunger for.

Delicate as satin
I tip toe evanescently
careful not to wake
sleeping samurais.

It’s a one player game,
the stakes are high,
it’s Doctor Jekyll against Mister Hyde.

One breathes fire, the other respite,
Time is running out,

One RX will win the fight.
