The One Whom You Cannot See

I'm here, but you can't see me.
I'm always in your presence,
But--
I only come out when I sense the need.
I'm in the midst of the stillness of the night,
Especially when all is asleep and in bed.
I'm only heard and never seen,
Besides--
Being jostled away is a dread.
I rest gently on a baby's lips,
As he sucks on his bottle.
But--
I'm deferred and set aside when my brother arrives,
He breaks all consciousness
As peace and calmness slowly become obsolete.
I try so hard to stay around
But--
After disappointment, my smile is averted to a frown.
Why should I stay here?
I'm no longer needed,
I guess I'll just wander off until my brother's task is completed.
You're probably curious of who i just might be,
For I am SILENCE,
The one whom you cannot see...
