Oh My God, Take A Break

In the early morning light, my daughter's question
Echoes in the quiet of our home:
"Amma, does God listen to everybody's prayers?"
Without hesitation, I assure her,
"Yes, sweetheart, he hears every plea."

But then, her innocent insight:
"She just asked God to get tired each day, right?"
I pause, pondering her words.
"Yes," she continues, "during assembly time,
The whole school prays, even Principal Mam.
Oh my God, your life is more miserable than ours."

Her empathy pours forth,
Acknowledging the weight of His burden,
Listening to the cries of all,
And offering solace to each weary soul.
"You're always busy," she worried.
"I fear you won't even rest or eat, or sleep."

A pang of guilt pricks my heart
As I listened to her tender plea:
"Okay, God, today at least, take a break,
And let no prayers disturb Your peace.
But in this world of urgent needs,
Please listen to my plea, selfish though it may seem,
To postpone my test, my greatest need."

And then, a promise, sincere and true:
"I won't trouble You tomorrow, I swear."
In her small voice, a world of compassion:
"I'll pray that everyone else postpones their prayers too,
So you can have a well-deserved break."

In her words, a melody of childlike grace,
A glimpse of faith in its purest place,
A selfless wish in a sacred space,
A reminder of innocence, a divine embrace,
Her tender plea, a lesson to embrace.
