My Summer Friend

My Summer Friend
She ziplined unexpectedly into my life one August day.
At first, I was fearful not knowing what to expect.
As the warm summer days passed, I grew to know her well
and appreciate her meticulous dedication to her job.
She made not a sound, no complaints I heard from her
She went about her daily duties as if her life depended upon it.
One early October morning when the air was crisp and cool
I realized my friend was not feeling well.
She had barely moved in a couple of days
It was not my place to intercede or try to encourage her to stay.
For her time had come and I must bid her farewell.
My majestic black and yellow eight-legged friend will be greatly missed.
I now will help protect her legacy, her soul purpose for life,
her large egg sac.
A sac tightly filled with babies that will grow stronger
in the security of their special home all winter.
And when the warm, spring breezes began to blow,
one by one the babies will leave the sac and I can only pray
at least one will zipline to meet me.
