Legacy From the Past

Our ancestors, when they departed,
Left their legacies behind for us,
In the form of
Their carefully developed plan.
It was supposed to be put into practice
To keep individuals from
Using malicious and reprehensible strategies
To satisfy their own deep-seeded desire for success.
In all actuality, it was to impede
The nation’s corruption and legal systematic abuse.
Our offspring are taught
When very young,
They are not allowed
To amend the rules
Solely for the sake of “getting their own way.”
That they are required,
Not to mention, expected to obey the rules,
To rightly play the game.
And if not, then in the end,
In some form or fashion, they shall be hung.
So, please tell me why the grown-ups are subsequently
Permitted to bend the rules
And break the laws?
Running around, treating fellow human beings
Like ocean floor scum,
Looking down their noses at the local corner bum.
Adults, for some indefinite reason, are allowed
To cop an attitude whenever they please or see fit,
Directly after teaching their own children
The precise reasons this behavior is unpardonable.
If the early leaders were still around,
What do you presume they would say?
“Nobody listened to our laws
Governing how they were all to play?”
Supporting documents were devised,
As well as, officially put into place,
So that we, the People,
Would be able to facilitate the appropriate use of them,
Not manipulate them, to figuratively spit in our father’s face!
