Nameless Children

As if I needed you to read them
To validate their existence
For I dearly hoped that they would become more
Trapped in thoughts, my listless dance
The Way is often changing
I only know through forms on canvas white

I often chance with this endless dance
Not with tipsy toes, twirling torsoes
Not in theaters, with a spotlight, for the world to see
But with sterling greet at my heart’s door,
Might I be so naïve yet bold to serenade a constant stranger who lives
Within solitary rooms
Perhaps a swing
Or under a tree
No spotlight, if you don’t count my mind’s eye
The audience, only I, you see

Lend me an ear and your heart as well
Give my nameless children a chance
What they say, what they do
It’s not up to me

I hope what they say is true
I hope they speak to you
I hope the seeds they plant
Reminding you oft, of time’s endless victims
The ones you once knew
Up a small knoll
Will grow and flourish’
Take them, these fruits, and entertain strangers
Those that bother to listen
And one day you might come back
An old man
And take them from that fertile field,
Observing and beholding
From infant girdle
To body’s final hurdle
Reap them, your memories
You can tell me how you feel

Pass them along to me
Though I am only a messenger, the ambassador of silence
For only then can I hear such soul's decree
I cannot take credit you see
To set loose these children
Yearning to be free
