Companion

I remember.....
When I'd carry you in my pocket.....
and how your hair felt like silk in the wind,
and when your eyes sparkled in the moonlight,
and when you barked such a little bark.
I remember.....
When you closed your tiny eyes,
     and saw the light.
I knew it was your time to go.
I remember my feelings.....
As I came home from school,
I felt my eyes as they began to tear.
If I had one more chance.....
I would give you your favorite bacon treats,
I would let your little teeth nibble my fingers,
I'd buy you a pretty pink shirt.
I'd buy you a teddy to sleep with forever!
If I had one more friend.....
     It would be you because,
     "I LOVE YOU."
You make me smile when I see your cute face.
Why did you have to go so soon?
