Moon Memory

I took the moon home with me,
balanced on my head.
We brushed our teeth,
and cleaned our ears,
and off we went to bed.
We had no stories to tell each other,
no tales of woe and strife,
but happily we sighed,
and turned out the light,
and journied on through the night.
And when we woke in the morning,
the moon said, "I have to go.
The sun may get jealous to share the sky.
It's just that way, you know."
And Poof! It was gone from our show.
I'm an old man now,
well weathered on the ways of life.
I know the moon never sleeps at night,
but I believe it nonetheless.
Facts cannot be denied,
but the moon was my friend one night.
