Let Me Sleep In Peace

Let Me Sleep in Peace
That fateful evening
The horses came back
Alone
She was missing
Something somewhere went wrong that day…
Eight years of bubbling life
Chirping like a bird
Running like a deer
Silenced
Something somewhere went wrong that day…
Eight day later
Found dead in the jungle
Among the trees and flowers
She wandered everyday
Something somewhere went wrong that day…
Months later
Investigations unfold a story of horror
That puts India, the goddess, the temple
And humanity to shame
Something somewhere went wrong that day…
Religion and land
Claimed human sacrifice
She paid the price
Of hatred and greed
Something somewhere went wrong that day…
Trampled, crushed, abused
Sordid stories untold
Now she lies safe, beneath
In peace
Something somewhere went wrong that day…
(This poem is a tribute to Asifa Bano of Khatua who was abused and murdered in January 2018)

Your poem is wonderful though the content so sad. There is so much going on in life and always the innocent that suffer. But I believe that there is still a lot of good in the world among human error although common sense must prevail. Thank you for sharing this Sirajuddin.
