Dust

Dust

ask me if I’m afraid to fail and I’ll tell you no
ask me how it’s going and I’ll tell you slow
tell me this is life and it doesn’t get any better
and I’ll tell you dust is the only thing that settles

Homeless

the night air is cold but what else is new
hopeless men gather much more than a few
a long line is formed but no words are said
looking to Hell for answers as they hang their heads
what little they possess is taken no regard
every face is tired some are even scarred
scraps are served but to only one’s delight
most forego the pity as they prepare for night
eight somber men share one small room
a stench marinated in collective gloom
some find comfort and roar throughout the dark
others toss and turn hoping sleep finds its mark
as my eyes close their faces are all I can see
am I looking at them or are they looking at me

Me

close enough to see
far enough to leave
love enough to hug
bored enough to shrug
warm enough to run
cold enough to numb
depending on the day
I can be either one

Gone

as my sight darkens and wits fade
I find solace in surviving the day
before sheep are counted and my mind runs wild
after a long day of misery I finally crack a smile
the sweetest sound elegantly graces my ear
hundreds of miles away but she feels right here
we muse and reminisce about what went wrong
I whisper I miss you but she’s already gone

Hi

aimlessly drifting is a scary thing
never sure what the day might bring
people pass by some glance some stare
their unified look of pity it feels unfair

what is so wrong what did I do
not so long ago I was just like you
don’t you recognize my face it’s me look!
we once loved tv shows or a new book

well, I guess times have really changed
no point acting like everything’s the same
but how about this next time we pass by
let’s pretend all is perfect and just say hi
