Love Is a Dangerous Game

I'm in this constant struggle
3 words
8 letters
A taboo if they slip too soon
Soon....
A measurement of time without end
Painting hearts in my head
Me + you
Elementary songs playing on repeat
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
Like a feeling is measured by a kiss
Like love is measured by physical attraction
Not the intellect or the meeting of two souls
I love you.
I said it okay?!
Bottled up like the fizz from a soda shook too many times
I. love. you.
I feel it
All 3 words.
All 8 letters.
It shouldn't be as dangerous as we make it sound.
But it's as if I'm a suicide bomber
On a mission from which I'll never recover
Waiting.
Waiting.....
To be humiliated
or to be lifted up and put on cloud 9
Afraid
of the consequences of words
A loaded gun
How did we get here?
Why is it that we give so much power
To words
And why is it that when you don't say "I love you too" my worth is diminished
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But What you don't say
is what can really hurt me
But why?

Wild Flower

My heart feels like wild flowers
bursting from ash
ready to show you how vibrant
only you can make me feel
your kisses leave me weak and
your laughter makes me smile
a sound I can replay like an old cassette
I close my eyes and I'm there
with you in the night I wish
would never end

This One's For You

I crave the electricity that could be us
The at your soul meets my body
the way you see the most intricate parts of
my being without me trying to show you
You know me without me saying a word
A place that feels familiar yet so strange
A dance between the broken
Puppets on strings allowed to get just close enough
but never close enough to stay
The tragedy in romance
Because you are my favorite kinds of beauty in heartbreak

First Date

I drank you in
Whiskey no chaser
Rough around the edges
Smooth enough to keep me wanting more
I was drunk on your smile
Kisses tipping me in to no mans land
Everything was hazy but you
I don't remember the night
I just remember your hands and
Laughter that bubbled like champagne

Don'T Look Under the Bed

The darker part of my thoughts.
2am demons out to play.
Challenge my sanity.
A tantalizing game of Russian Roulette.
I thought only the strong survive,
But why is the darkness winning?
Six shots and my sanity is dead.

4am

I found your love in a book,
Pressed between the pages like petals of a flower.
I found your love in a song,
Music notes aligning beautifully on a broken staff.
I found your love in a text message,
Tiny black letters on a dimly lit screen.
I found you love in a kiss,
Soft and slow hands on my hips.
I found your love in bed,
But it wasn’t love at all.
I found your lust instead.

Music Box Love

I used to think that love happened in slow motion
With all the happy moments suspended in time
Then one day I realized the bad moments play even slower
A camera with shutter speed on its lowest setting
I wondered
Why do we watch out lives go by like this
Ballerinas dancing in a music box whose record is long broken

Ghost Town

I got hallway out of town today
but I couldn't leave
before I faced the last of my demons
So I turned around and went back
Drawn by the emptiness I'd avoided for months
Four walls held up by cement
that might as well be
made of bones and ash
from all the skeletons I've left buried there
I'd burn it down if I had a match
to incinerate the memories I've tried hard to erase
But you're gone and so am I
thought not in quite the same way
My questions were answered and I realize now
that the building wit the skeleton bones
will never be the same

Ode To Depression

No one tells you how lonely it is
Sitting in the kitchen floor at 2am
The taste of metallic resolution
The weight of conviction

No one tells you about the numbness
Extremities floating softly
The dull whisper of water
The warmth of surrender

No one tells you about the satisfaction
An agonizing temptation
Tantalizing milky canvas
Tortured artist begging for release

No one tells you about the end
How quiet it gets
Temperamental judgement
Truculent rage

Elements

I write in the presence of your soul
Like you are the oxygen that is vital for my survival
Struggling for one final breath before the end of the world
Comes crashing down around us
I am the water as fluid as salty kisses on tear stained cheeks
Shattered sea shells on cement floors
From the vacation we took the summer you proposed
You are the fire dancing beautifully in the night
Mesmerizing to watch but dangerous to hold
A candle left burning far too long
I am the earth fertilizing your growth
Strong enough to support the roots you lay down
But still unsure of how to bloom on my own
WE are the elements
As night and day as they come
Symbolic yet dysfunctional
Together till the end but only because
You took parts of me that I never want back
