Train

Breath by breath great puffs of smoke,
Broke through the air as he spoke.
He passed by grand buildings all of timber.
Everything he was but kind and limber.

Dark and handsome, strict and solemn.
The smoke broke the air column by column.
He traveled fast with no time to tarry,
The beauty around him all temporary.

Gleaming near and all around,
White snow seemed to muffle any sound.
But he would gape through the silent domain.
No time to stop, no time to explain.

Dusk filtered the framework of the grove,
The tempest refined the woodland as he drove.
Trudging his tracks like a metronome,
He split the forest painting of monochrome.

Into the blizzard he walked along,
Whistling his scheduled note like a song.
And left behind him a winding chain,
For the passing morning train.
