The Seeds of Fear

Nature can exist without any sunlight.
The shadow is nurtured by the sustenance
sprouting from the soil in the Garden of Darkness and
from which grows the frondescence that nourishes our Fear.

The garden is dampened by the tears
of those whose shadow’s grip is strong and thriving
beneath the shade of the great ash trees.
Their roots and their branches connect the underworld
with the Gods of the earth, sky, and sea.

And the shadow exists between these planes
where it relies on the fruit fallen from the
Trees of Life and Knowledge that faithfully grow
in the Orchards of Loss
reminding us, with each passing season,
as, once again, the blossoms flourish among the cherry trees,
that immortality exists.

Morning glory withers to give way to impervious vines of insecurity
that wrap tightly around a wrought iron fence
behind which the Unknown fertilizes the seeds of Fear.
A bittersweet aroma rises from a flowerbed adorned with
Violets of Distrust and White Lilies of Lost Hope.
Their scent fills the Garden of Darkness
and reaches the senses of all that venture through.

His Loss

Never mind the soldiers dying.
This war cannot be fought that way.
Dissatisfied, he won't stop trying.
Attack before he'll watch her stray.

The road he's built extends through time
Each checkpoint holding the remains
of battles lost against her crime.
Leaves him glutted with disdain.

Since she chose to trust herself,
the threat was high that he could lose.
Bleeding just to keep himself where
she couldn't circumvent his views.

He opposes her vicissitudes
and disparages her worth.
She takes the blows she's being given
and pursues spiritual rebirth.

She's searching for a way to end this
as her arsenal starts to lose supply.
He lets her hide while weak and remiss.
Peace time's over, Red fills the sky.

Years go by amid this strife.
Both are wounded, both have cried.
The war continues inside a mind
that knows its right, enough to die.

Slowly, death will creep upon him
as she starts to walk away.
The road he built,
left desolate.
This war has ended.
She won't obey.

My Honor

Each step upon those attic stairs took me closer
to mesmerizing clouds of sandalwood and jasmine
that lingered in the musty air of a dark, foreboding room
that certainly held more than just my secrets.

Candles burned unevenly on wax-encrusted wicks.
The ashtrays placed strategically,
no need to empty one.
A picture frame and loose photos lay beneath the dust.
My altar held all of this and became a witness
to the destruction of my soul.
And, on those stairs, in between my room and the attic,
I swear, my honor slipped away.

The power of a soul to regenerate itself offers us
a second chance with which we're faced with
brand new choices in the same cold world.
And time gives us the luxury of being able to forget
and continue on carrying invisible scars that only
rarely get noticed, but do serve as a cruel reminder.

The front stoop was always good for thinking.
Reflecting on the static between the trees in the woods behind the house.
I never meant to cause such distemperedness.
A deranged condition, I couldn't see that I caused.
All the while, those ghosts fed off of me.

The turbulence got worse around a time of
white-covered rooftops and a high gas bill.
The psychotic shrieks of the cat in a corner of the bathroom
confirmed that it was evil I was facing.
And so I tipped the bottle and feigned a smile.
Because I knew I lost my honor long before that day.

A trip to the church, then a stop at the hospital
impacted the perceptions held by the eyes looking on.
Behold! What they see matches an idea of what should be
and suddenly they hand you your honor back.

All this time I've lived without honor and
according to them, I've earned it's return.
Lift the dark heavy storm clouds and
slide down the rainbow that awaits.
Their masks have smiles I emulate
and together we sit and wait.

The day has now come and those eyes are
once again, keen to what they see that shouldn't be.
A realization has not yet hit,
that the honor I was granted was based on the same
abhorrent dishonor that has come to light today.

Why should I be concerned with this honor,
when it's they who decide when to give it and take it away?

Now I find my own honor
completely outside of them everyday.

Every Reason Why

Was it you that I sensed in the distance
as I stood in the dark looking up at the stars?
Veraciously believing that you existed,
still having no clue who you really are.
Faces reminded me of what I was seeking
though they didn't hold the spirit of the one I will love.
Fumbling and falling, suffering, resisting
Doubting that you truly exist after all.

Then, suddenly the pieces fit altogether and
grayness slowly dissolved off the past.
A history with meaning, yet lacking a purpose began
to illuminate the reasons it's had.

Every lesson, every heart ache, every passion
has led me to you.
Every moment through years of anguish was worth it because
it's helped me know you.
Every day spent recoiling, emerging, into and out of
confusion and pain.
Straining to come to some understanding.
Grasping at truth while it jumped out the way.

Every instance of my existence now shines before me
in a different light.
Since every piece came to fruition
so that I could recognize you in this life.

On a Full Moon

The wings have been torn.
She falls to the ground.
Transformation ensues.
Her agony found.

Thick English ivy
hinders her song.
Now wounded, she's hiding
Like she's done all along.

The enemy's spotted,
at least in the depths
of this infested garden,
Hurt is hard to forget.

Cold winds again blowing.
She's dropped from the sky.
Doubts rising, Fear soaring.
Still yearning to fly.

So, she finds her solution
the way she knows how.
Retreating. Defeating
her disquietude now.

It should have been buried
but she couldn't let it die.
The full moon was out
and maybe that's why.

Anyway

Never get enough sleep
or enough money.
The baby won't stop crying.
The bills are late again.
Go to work each day.
God knows I'm trying.
Can't grasp the concept of living.
But, I'm happy anyway.

Sanity's hard to keep
It's not even funny.
The wine bottle's always chilled.
I drink in my corner.
Trapped in the same hole
where morality is killed.
Sure sucks getting older.
But, none of it bears on my soul.

Can't ever make it on time
Why bother trying?
Cold rain sends chills down my spine,
Now my mother is calling.
An urge to hide away
tempts, still I decline.
Holding on to keep from falling
But, I'm smiling anyway.

Don't get along with my ex.
There's no denying
that life's always a struggle.
Hurts staying above.
Insane and dramatic
Issues to juggle
All the while I fell in love.
And this love keeps me ecstatic,
anyway.

Alla

Convincing you has never been easy.
And I still haven't managed to get you to see
that this choice you have made so abruptly
may haunt you and keep you from ever being free.

You are so beautiful in so many ways
and worthy of all the good you desire.
But, somehow your mirror won't reflect this to you.
Seduced across country to find what you require.

Visions of us will not leave me alone.
Closing my eyes only brings them on stronger.
I cherish the care and loyalty you've shown me.
I'll love you forever. I have you no longer.

Wishing that something I could have said
would make you believe what I know is true.
You don't need to do this. You deserve so much better.
External provisions can be found inside you.

I'll never forget how you nurtured me through
the darkness that rid me of all of my fire.
I've thrived on your honesty. You never hold back.
Inside you I find so much to admire.

I only hope that this brings you some comfort
if on the horizon you'll find peace and joy.
I'll be here each time you need to remember
and if you get hurt, his world I'll destroy.

So, this one's for you, my lovely friend.
Take care of those boys, and know that we'll miss you.
And whatever it is that you aspire to achieve
Know I'll be with you to help make it come true.

Absorbed

To think is to feel
and my mind tells me now,
when my heart beats,
it's real.
Still, I don't know how
you can move from my body
to my heart, to my mind
with grace - endless passion
one's unlikely to find.

Absorbed in your mystery.
Consumed by your thoughts.
Discovering planes in which
I could never be brought
by anyone else in
this madness and pain.
Exist day to day
with almost nothing to gain.

But as the tides change
and the moon shifts it's pull,
my soul is awakened
and my think tank if full.

No longer in need,
No longer held back.
Desire's fulfillment.
There's nothing I lack.

From my
Aweless thought inducer.
From my
Tender soul seducer.

Your force has been tapped.
Recognition sneaks in.
The shackles have snapped.
Let the journey begin.

Yellow

Spinning leaves you disoriented.
Stumbling along with a smile.
You can leave this world.
Your visions blurred.
And, it feels uplifting.
The intoxication keeps you spinning.

You're hoping that it doesn't stop.
But, when the daze subsides
things come back into focus
like those yellow lights flashing.
And now they're not so easy to ignore.

I guess that might be why clouds exist.
So easy to bury your head inside
a place where the flashing lights
can't penetrate or agitate
this false sense of bliss
the opaque softness can provide.

But even clouds can dissipate
leaving wisps of fluff behind.
The flashing yellow passes through.
Time for another place to hide
from the light kept hazy from all your spinning,
from the yellow dinged inside your cloud.
Escape from thoughts that you might be sinning
Against Yourself
by holding on to covert lies.

Keep it peaceful.
Keep it lively.
A sober form of ecstasy
veils the truth brought by the flashing.
Ever-present.
Disenchanting.
Demanding you to recognize,
you're only stalling your demise.

Thanks To the Darkness

Thought I saw the sun.
Felt it's warmth through to my bones.
Radiance divine.
The shine brightened up my world.

It's easy to forget
while in its rays you lie
that the same sun that you thrive on
leaves you burned and blinds your eyes.

It seems you need the darkness
to make you realize
that its time to look away
before the damage multiplies.

Once the darkness falls
and smothers out most of that light
your vision takes a new perspective.
Blinded eyes again have sight.

We must thank the darkness
for allowing us to see.
If we only had the Sun,
blinded fools we all would be.
