Happiness Is Like a Balloon

Happiness is like a balloon.
It comes in all different shapes, sizes, and colors.
Sometimes you might lose it, or someone takes it away.
Sometimes it pops or deflates.
But you must have the will to blow up a new balloon,
knowing no one else can do that for you.
For then, it wouldn’t be your balloon.

Lucky Penny

I wish upon these lucky pennies,
Hoping luck will come my way.
And I’m lying here like a crumpled piece of paper,
written with all the words I cannot say.

I stand here under the starry sky,
Loving you from afar.
My voice blends into the heavens,
as I scream your name to a shooting star.

I can’t make you love me,
If you do not feel the same.
I’m having trouble breathing,
And you’re the one to blame.

And If I had the chance,
Would you ever let me know?
There’s a place for me somewhere,
But I’m not sure where to go.

The lesson I’ve learned is that,
The easy part is falling in love.
And these pennies can’t grant wishes,
for magic is what they fall short of.

There’s lucky pennies in my pocket,
and each time I wish for you.
I want to stop feeling this way,
But I’m not sure I know how to.

Prisoner To My Pain

I stand here drowning,
Under the invisible sea.
I’m lost in my own emotions
and I long to be set free.

I don’t know if I can carry anymore,
This heavy heart of mine.
I wish to spill these feelings,
but it’s a request my lips decline.

The encapsulated tears boil within,
and spill over my wounded heart.
With every single burning drop,
I feel myself fall apart.

In the silent moments,
My thoughts acquire free reign.
I try my hardest to forget,
that awfully blinding pain.

Is it too much to ask,
for someone to come along?
To pull me out of this darkness,
and teach me to be strong?

In this world, perhaps,
There’s no such person out there.
But if there is, somehow,
Could you save me from this nightmare?

The Insomniac In Me

These are the days of endless nights,
Where I recount a lifetimes worth of plights.
Burned out like a matchstick I find myself,
Knowing deep down that it’s bad for my health.

But nothing can stop this active mind,
Engaged to thoughts of an abstract kind.
I dream with my eyes open wide,
Dead on my feet - I’m totally fried.

Thoughts like an ocean all through the night;
If insomnia is the wind, then my thoughts are the kite.
I lie in my bed of sleepless dreams,
And watch the sun rise slowly in soft beams.

I slowly wriggle myself from insomnias clasp,
And soon stumble into slumbers sweet grasp.
But the battle has only ended for today you see,
For every night is endless for the insomniac in me.

People Are Like Books

People are like books.
Some are big, some are small.
Some come in a set, and some
Are standalone.
Some are new.
Others: used.
Some hardcover, and some soft.
Some, we know we will never read again
Yet we keep them for the memory.
Some we are sad to let go of,
But know there’s always another waiting out there to be read.
The one thing that never changes,
Is that they are all books.

The Monochrome Burden

Monochrome girl
With the black and white soul,
A neutral expression,
And eyes of coal.

She strikes you down
With her emotionless gaze,
And the mundane words
She colorlessly says.

But don’t think for a second
That she is free of pain,
For deep within her
Is an eternal rain.

She’d rather die
Than let you see her fall.
She carries the burden
Of feeling nothing at all.

A Story I Know

It's just you and me
In this setting right now
The sun is shining brightly
But it's dark somehow.

We've both been in this place before
Yes I feel it in my heart
Speaking right now to you takes me
Back to the start

Of a story I know
Where the girl meets the boy
And they - fall in love
They're so full of joy

But I guess that's a myth
At least for me
Cause sorrow is my prison ward
And I wish to be free

But I've been told before
This is nothing new
But I thought things could change
For me and you

So go after that retched girl
She doesn't deserve to be
The one your heart is set on
That girl should be me!

Burnt

Words can sting
Like a sunburn that never fades.
You were the sun,
And like Icarus
I flew too close.
My wings
Burned,
and I fell to the Earth.

Rough Draft Love

This rough draft love
needs some revision.
The author
isn't sure what comes next.
Chapters
often find themselves
in the shredder
called reality.
Crumpled pages
and bleeding ink;
they mark the story
of you and I.
So imperfect,
but still ours.
This autobiographic love
written only
by my hand.
The ink
smudged by my
clumsy touch
and so hard to wash away.
Tragic heroine,
maybe someday
you will find someone who
will write a story with you.
So keep writing,
young author,
for the end is yours to make.

Don'T Forget

Life's journey
may not always
be easy,
but
do not forget
how to smile.
People may
belittle and hurt you
without reason,
but
do not forget how to be kind.
The world
may be full of hate
and darkness,
but do not forget how to love.
Perhaps,
if we do not forget -
then the world
could become a better place.
In the face of adversity:
be happy,
be kind,
and love.
Remember these things
and oh,
what a wonderful life you'll live.
