A Wish In My Heart

If I had only known that day would be our last,
I'd sit & stay awhile longer to learn about your past.
Questions about when you were young,
About sights you've seen & things you've done.
Tell me of the path you took,
Your first love, your favorite book.
About how you & Grandpa met,
Or times in life that you regret.
Many things you've seen come & go.
There's so much more I'd like to know.
How it was the day you wed?
The first words your children said.
The first Boston Terrier in your life.
The days your sons each took a wife.
Share with me, your first car,
& what your favorite colors are.
So much I still wanted to know,
I thought we still had time to go.
When that day draws to it's close
It's your smile I'll miss the most.
A longer hug I'd give to you.
As you say I love you too.
Followed by, come back & see me.
Until that day it's in my heart you'll be.

Eternal Flame

Without you, the days are so long
& sometimes it's hard to just carry on.
You gave life & love to all things
The joy of giving was what you would bring.

I see your smile inside my head,
It just isn't fair that you have to be dead.
I know you suffered though all the while
You held your head high & even would smile.

As I watched you go through it, I always had hope,
Even when we came to the end of the rope.
Everything that we went through
Helped make us closer & more loving too.

Through ups & downs you always were strong
Even when you knew you didn't have long.
Life can be kind & cruel in the same,
But you will live on forever because of loves eternal flame.

Love Passed Away

You were once here, or so it would seem.
Gone now forever, like a half woken dream.
Flown beyond the farthest star.
Yet eternal within my memories you are.
Your echo of love will forever remain,
Guiding me through the sorrow & pain,
To the day my heart begins to heal.
Though not quite whole will it ever feel.
For pieces are missing, now shaded gray,
Given with love to love passed away.

At Peace

That July morning you left with the dawn.
Finally done with a life full & long.
You brightened our lives with your wisdom & love,
& still shine upon us now from Heaven above.

Today, though our hearts are heavy with sorrow
The sun will still rise with a brand new tomorrow.
& though we can't see you, you'll always be near.
For death can't diminish a loved one so dear.

We all have a time & we all have a date,
To meet with our maker at Heaven's pearly gate.
Reunited at last with those gone before,
Peaceful & perfect it's all that & more.

There's no aches or pain, no sadness you'll see.
So grieve not too long for her souls been set free.
Free from the body, for it's but a shell.
A spirit at peace, you lived your life well.

Measure of Life

Souls tied to flesh, we all have our parts.
Doing our best to touch other's hearts.
Speak only truth & selflessly give,
Harbor no hate, words we should live.

Giving our all, in life & in love
Ensures us a place in the clouds up above.
Enjoy the good times & sway with the rest.
One's strength in the storm is life's greatest test.

Life is but fleeting in the scheme of things grand,
& love should be taken when it offers a hand.
Dance to the music, let each moment last.
Hold no regrets we can't live in the past.

Let passion emit from all that you do
Each dawn brings a chance to start life anew
At the end of the journey when flesh fades away
We're measured by hearts touched at the end of our days.

Best of All

Throughout it all, you’re always there.
To guide and teach, to love and share.
To show me things I could not see,
Told me to be the best I could be.
Taught me the values of wrong and right.
In the dark, you are my light.
You’ve stuck by me throughout the years;
Through times of trial, joy, and tears.
Loved and nurtured me and helped me grow.
It means so much, I want you to know.
You’re the kind of person that stands out above the rest.
In a league of your own, that’s better than the best.
You’re not a Father, Sister, or Brother.
You’re the best of all. You are my Mother.

A Ghost

What do you do when love turns to ache?
When nothing you do can ease the heartbreak.
Alone in the darkness and filled with despair,
When the one that you love no longer cares.

Gut wrenching sadness is all that you feel,
Alone in a world that no longer seems real.
Gone are the dreams of the life we would share,
A porch, years from now, with two wooden chairs.

Now I stand by myself alone in the rain,
My eyes filled with tears and my heart full of pain.
Gone is my Wonderful, my soul's dearest friend,
Who, before God, promised me love till life's end.

Real love is not lightly or easily found.
When freely given joy will abound.
But love unrequited, brings nothing but sorrow.
Despair and chaos replace dreams of tomorrow.

My sun, moon, and stars you stole like a thief,
Leaving me only emptiness and grief.
My sweet, pretty flowers and handsome little man,
Taking them too, seemed part of your plan.

You turned away when I needed you most;
Erased from your life already a ghost.
