A Camping Morn

The fire pit has been made
The kindling has been laid
The match was put to the dry, dry wood
And the flames began to play

The fire now is burning bright
The coffee pot is on
It is the way to start the day
On this cloudy, misty morn

The quiet of the darkened night
Flowed back thru greyish mounds
The moon was playing hide and seek
With drifting wispy clouds

A shadow blanketed the camp again
Closing out the morning light
The breeze then chased a leaf down hill
Like a windblown handmade kite

The icy hued moon was sliding
It soon would leave our sight
The hope for sun should soon come about
From this sharp and frosty night

And from the sky quite unexpectedly
Came rain drops as big as grapes
It pattered through the shroud of trees
A whooshing sound it makes

The raindrops hit the burning logs
With a hissing reptile sound
That caused an apparition of pure-white smoke
To eerily hug the ground

As fast as the rain began to fall
It just as quickly did dismiss
And lanching shafts of sunlight
Replaced the lingering patchy mist

The sleepy woodlands did then awake
To the grandeur of a brand new dawn
And flitting through that peerless sky
The birds began their morning song!

The Hill

There from my window
In my mind I can see
Three crosses lined up
On the hill -----Calvary

In the middle the tall one
One on each side
Representing the place
Where my Jesus had died

I can hear on the wind
A plaintive wail
As into each hand
They have driven a nail

His arms are bound tight
To cross timbers of might
To hold His young body
Throughout the long night

I can see the sharp lance
Driven hard in His side
By the soldiers that gambled
And some that had cried

His head dripped of blood
From the crown that He wore
His life slipped away
He would breathe no more

And yet He arose
From the crypt Oh so cold
To sit with His Father
On thrones made of gold

From His station on high
He can see what's ahead
And be able to judge
The quick and the dead

And when Gabriel blows
That sound on his horn
We will all be forgiven
On resurrection morn

The sins that we all
Have committed within
Will be washed by His blood
And forgiven by Him

He promises this
In the Book I have read
Just ask for forgiveness
And your sins He will shed

His only request is
To walk in His way
And be blessed by our Jesus
Throughout everyday!

Mom

Back in my mind a vision I see
Of the loving person who took care of me
When I would fall and scrape my knee
Her hugs would make the booboo's flee

There was a time I scrapped my arm
I screamed and yelled like a fire alarm
But who was there to rub on the balm
The person I lovingly called, my Mom

For the longest time I didn't know her name
But rest assured if I yelled Mom, there she came
She didn't seem to be ruled by a clock
And always had time to pick up a sock

She would always calm me in the midst of a storm
She smelled so good and was always so warm
She loved to laugh but she also cried
I remember it happened, when my puppy dog died

A printed dress that was always so worn
Smiling brightly she'd wake me each breaking morn
Her breakfasts were yummy and tasty and warm
Her apron was part of Mom's dress uniform

When I started to grow and would go out to play
Mom would be there watching throughout the day
At noon she would call me which was always so sweet
Come in little darling, it's soon time to eat

Peanut butter and jelly was the noon time treat
I'd be tired from playing but had time to eat
Then she'd put me down on the couch to sleep
And cover me up from my had to my feet

My Mom isn't home, she was called away
To a new home in heaven where she's living today
I'm sure she's at peace in her home up above
And showering other children with her motherly love!

The Flight

While walking out my door one night
The hour was quite late
The sky was dark, no moonlight showed
T'was black, as black as slate

Yet, looking through the darkness
Of this silent, satin night
From somewhere just beyond the edge
A flame, a candlelight?

I sat alone and reminisced
About our long, yet loving life
About my role as husband
And yours of loving wife

A gentle waft of air that caused
A flutter in the night
It was as if upon that breeze
An Angel took to flight

It seems like it was yesterday
I boldly walked you home
Then thought about the loving times
Spent with you, all alone

I spoke into the darkness
Even though, we were alone
Yet there upon that whispered breeze
A sound spoke back, unknown

And yet at night, no one to hear
Your silent breaking heart
Soft tears slid down upon your cheek
Wet kisses in the dark

A cry of pain escaped your lips
Broke through the silent night
While Angels then prepared you
For your dark and silent flight

As morn began its' gentle break
A voice from up above?
Yea!, tis today I called for you
To tell you of my love

Come home to me, God spoke to her
No more you'll suffer pain
He'll hold your love within his heart
Until you meet again!

Our Life

On a blustery sunny Thursday
In December of fifty-four
We stood before a preacher
To pledge our love forever more

We didn't have a tux or gown
A suit and dress were worn
A nervous bride and groom they were
On that cold December morn

She lovely as an angel stood
He, facing her with love
In hopes the union of these two
Were blessed by God above

They then recited all their vows
Till death should do us part
And with a kiss they sealed their love
With a fullness in their hearts

She is my bright and shining star
Sent to me from above
And till the very end of days
Will be my own true love

This love we've shared for many years
Through good times and thru strife
And both remained so much in love
As husband and as wife

You'll see them with each other
Just walking side by side
The love light shining in their eyes
Reflects the husband and his bride

Should God decide just one should go
Before the other's time
My fervent prayer would be to Him
The life you take be mine

Wrapped up in memories so sweet
It could be called divine
What makes the memories so neat?
They'll pass the test of time

I wouldn't want to stay this earth
Without my lovely wife
There'd be no joy, no happiness
An empty shell of life

Should I be first, and she remain
I'll wait upon a cloud
And whisper to the changing winds
In voice so strong and loud

Here comes my wife I've waited for
Her red hair streaked with grey
And hand in hand we'd walk once more
Forever and a day!

My Granddaughter

I had a talk the other day
With someone Oh, so sweet
Her smile was sweet and innocent,
She swept me off my feet

A flaxen haired young lady
Between just four and five
Her blue eyes twinkled as she talked
So vibrant - so alive

We walked and talked that sunny day
Her interests were so fine
We wandered aimlessly about
Her hand held firm in mine

She questioned many things that day
So she would understand
My answers were with humor
And she clapped her little hands

Then, with a hug about my neck
A kiss, a squeeze with care
She looked at me and sweetly said
"I love you Granddad dear"

I hugged her back and kissed her cheek
With moisture in my eyes
How can someone so very young
Become so very wise?

I put her gently on the ground
With feelings so complete
Away she streaked across the lawn
On tiny sneakered feet

With pigtails flying in the breeze
Within my heart I felt
A thankfulness to God above
As on the grass I knelt

I watched her scurry to and fro
As busy as could be
And every now and then she'd turn
And look back up at me

I stood to hurry after her
She stopped and waited then
I realized she accepted me
As playmate and as friend

Her hands she placed upon her hips
She waited as though mad
And then she smiled her angel smile
And said, "Hurry up Granddad."

I only hope the two of us
Walk many, many miles
I'd walk from hewre to Timbuktu
To see my grandchild smile

And should she ask for me to come
I's never question why
She means so very much to me
My sweet granddaughter KAI!

The Mountains

The wooded path came to an end
Next to a sparkling pool
The water deep and clear as glass
And icy, icy cool

I looked to see the waters source
When looking up I found
The crystal waters, from snowy peaks
Made hardly an audible sound

Amazed that standing before my eyes
Was a monolith in the sky
The hugeness of its mammoth rocks
A miracle, of time gone by

The covered peaks of the mountain height
Raked the merciless white washed sky
The cool gurgling current was leading the pond
Through a peaceful meadow nearby

The verdant green of the valley floor
Gave sanctuary to the elk and deer
And they grazed in luxurious abundance
Content, without a fear

With the waters murmuring over well worn stones
I heard a plaintive song
The winds that blow through the crevices above
Makes music all day long

Then from a craggy precipice
A high pitched wailing call
Like a mother cougars' maternal sound
Announcing her new cub to all

What a beautiful world, everything seems good
My day has been truly blessed
From a morning walk into the wooded hills
To an unending wilderness!

I slowly walked on a winding path
Through a meadow of flowers knee high
And the sun beyond a far off hill
Was making colors in the sky

Eternally grateful I turned and looked back
Some clouds now covered its height
The rays of the sun produced a buttering glow
As daylight surrendered to night.

Have You Ever Wondered Why

A lovely rose upon a hill
Its' petals wet with dew
Sits lonely in its' growing place
Neath skies of azure blue

A coat of green surrounds the rose
The leaves are moistened too
An emerald background it provides
Against a ruby hew

On unseen wings of gentle wind
A cotton cloud sails by
Dark specs of birds float to and fro
Have you ever wondered why?

The rolling sea white foam creates
When thrust upon the shore
It then recedes to gather strength
To thrust forever more

The mountain peaks like mammoth hands
Reach upward to the sky
Another marvel of our world
Have you ever wondered why?

A crystal brook so clear and cool
Reflects that azure sky
Look deep into its' mirrored pools
And watch those clouds float by

God placed these things upon this earth
To appease both you and I
With a Masters touch He placed these things
Have you ever wondered why?

Take time to smell that lovely rose
Enjoy and don't wonder why
Take time to see God's marvelous world
Don't hurriedly walk by

Life is too short to miss these things
That He placed here for us
Take time to hear, to see, to smell
Take time from all the fuss

For once you stop and smell that rose
And look into that brook
You'll see He meant these things for us
Slow down and have a look

To see those birds float to and fro
The wind felt on your face
You'll wonder why you hurried by
And missed this lovely place

You'll only walk this path one time
From stories I've been told
Slow down, walk slow and see the sights
Before you get too old

For soon enough that path will end
And life will pass you by
You'll miss the beauty of His world
And always wonder why!!!

God placed these things upon this earth
To appease both you and I
With a Masters touch He placed these things
Have you ever wondered why?

Just God and Me

I walked into the mountain high
That stretched before me in the sky
A magnificent cathedral of towering stone
That reminded me I was completely alone

What a palatial place for God to abide
But, as in a trance He was there by my side
I was comfortable then without any fear
Knowing in my head my Savior was near

But strangely, in my reverie
A soothing voice then spoke to me
Hello my son it gently said
I'm really here not just in your head

I wanted a moment alone with just you
To tell you my love for you is true
I wanted to tell you I hear you each day
When you bow your head and reverently pray

I do bless your loved ones
I forgive all your sins
And will never forsake you
As long as you ask me in

I enjoy all our walks
And the talks we have had
What brings you up here?
Are you lonesome or sad?

I'm neither my Lord, I spoke back to him
Just looking for you to talk once again
I'm feeling so happy my soul is just great
Just searching for you so I could relate

I'm happy I found you I thought you'd be here
When I talk to you my head is so clear
My life is complete; it's a wondrous thing
When I talk to you, God, my heart could just sing

I appreciate your talking and listening to me
I need reassurance of your love don't you see
It's so nice to hear you as we walk through this day
Thank you dear Lord, for blessing my way!

Passing Years

Twas many, many years ago
That we betrothed our love
A union for the two of us
Sent forth by God above

We are no longer young in years
We've wrinkled some with age
But love endures, yes love sustains
With each timeless turning page

Love is something you cannot touch
No matter age or season
What causes enduring love to last
There is no rhyme or reason

Perhaps we see each other
As we were from years ago
God's love or us has caused our love
To thrive and continually grow

God's love for us is timeless
A thing that time can't touch
And still we utter to each other
I still love you very much

Although our hair is tinged with grey
And wrinkles line our face
God's love for us is steadfast
With His enduring grace!

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
