Youth

Running wild through the streets
Dog in tow
Hand in hand with my best friend.

Light shining on our faces 
As we laughed and ran
Free, young and eternal.

Spirited and determined
We played the games of innocence
Simple, real and heart felt.

We hugged and kissed
And loved
With the sincerity of youth
Untouched
Unharmed
And hopeful.

Dust to Dust

The Orchid

Its body moves
Undulating and curling
As it rises towards the sky

Long, sinewy
Thin
Yet substantial

Its arms stretch to its sides
As it strikes
Its eternal elegant pose.

Its face
Seemingly turned towards the heavens
As if preying
For the redemption
Of its soul.

Colour
It knows not of its distinction 
Yet it is found in a number of different hues
Some meek, mild and subdued
Others bold, emblazoned and sultry.

It seduces
Not with its smell
Its voice
Its laughter
But with its sweet
Simplicity
Innocence
and its Eternal beauty
Forever
And always

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

I thought of you today
 I never imagined I would
 Out of sight out of mind
 Or so I hoped

 You flew
 You grew
 You were too close to the sun
 I thought I told you
 Not to fall
 Fall to the ground

 Out of sight
 Out of mind
 But always so close to my still beating heart

 Your memory burns into my soul
 Forgotten laughs
 Secrets still kept
 Ideas we had
 Plans we had made

 Where are they now?
 Those dreams we shared?

Wears Me Down

Sometimes the feeling 
Of being small 
Has nothing to do with size
But your own perception.

A smile is not always a smile
Or a reflection of your heart
Sometimes it is only due
To practice.

I'm a happy person
I repeat constantly
Until I believe.
It always wears me down.

Yes I am blessed
That's true.
I'm so thankful 
Without a doubt.

But I fight
A battle everyday.
No one sees me cry.
No one will hear my pain.

Eyes Behind Fire and Smoke

Light bristles through the window
Reflective of life carrying on
Carrying on, it feels so strange.

Strange that a life worth living
With love and kindness abound
Is all you wanted.
It was so close and yet still so out of reach.

Reach for the stars
You never could
Could. Should. Would.

Would you stay if I asked you?
The you behind the eyes of fire and smoke.

Is that you?
It does not feel like you.
It does not look like you.

It’s dark. Dark. So Dark.

My Loss

I felt her grown inside me
I felt her disappear
I wasn't really aware
It certainly wasn't clear

I felt him grow inside me
I knew that he was strong
I thought nothing could harm him
Nothing could go wrong

I wish someone could have told me
How much this would really hurt
I never got to meet them
Never got to sing them goodnight

But there is nothing that can be said
Nothing to heal this pain
It's all over with 
I guess I'll start again

Put on my smile, my make up
Hide my sad expression 
And no one will know the difference 
It's nothing but a mission

Do people even notice
See the glint go from my eye 
Do they notice I laugh less
Do they notice when I cry 

Of course not 
I'm a good actress 
I play my role so well

So here I will go again
Start the day anew
Put on my smile, my make up

I lost a moment today.
I did not even know.
I tried to look for it.
Inside Pockets. Sleeves and Combs.

I lost a day today.
I guess I should have seen.
I searched for it everywhere.
Under books. Tables.Chairs.

I lost a week today.
How could that happen?
I swear I didn’t know.
I searched for it everywhere.
All around me. Inside my home.

I lost a month today.
It that even real?
Where did the time go?
I wish I could have known.
I searched for it everywhere.
All around you. Inside your home.

I lost a year today.
Whoever would have guessed?
Why didn’t you tell me?
Why didn’t you warn me?
Where should I go?
I lost my life today.
There’s nothing more to say.

Tapestries

My life is made of tapestries
Beautiful
Yet so flawed.

I think I never knew it
Although I have known it
All before.

You ask me what "can't you do"
Oh so enquiringly
I answer
"I can't fly yet"
Ever so conspiringly.

So if beauty is in 
Imperfections
And my tapestry
Is full

Then ain't life
Funny that way?
Ain't it thrill?

So I return to where I 
Started
About tapestries and souls
And know without a doubt
That it is your beauty 
That makes mine whole.
