Backstage

Hey. Maybe he should take a bow
(All new prospects watching now)
So he's played the part before
Exits never leave him bored
Exits are his cry his cry for proof
Better safe then sorry now...
Not for him some ordinary girl.
You're a bit player in a one man show
If you're confused, get use to it
You haven't seen his acting yet...
He'll act and act (and believe)
You really had a say in this
He'll ask exactly what you think
Then blame your faulty reasoning
So maybe you should take that bow
A graceful exit beats a deathwatch now
No, of course...I don't know everything
(I'm just some ordinary girl)
But better safe then sorry now
He loves to leave
It makes him safe, keeps you brief
All new prospects, they're watching now
Let them break a leg, you take that bow

A Brother's Love

So...I watched it
Your memorial. It only took a year, plus four
Not bad, I think
I never really thought I would...
Or could
I was...conflicted
Torn between the sad sweetness of remembering
And my anger at our reduction
Reduced to film, a commemerative
Conflicted by the art of it
Near perfect, shaped by love
Even I was awed by this.

I never understood
(really)
How much sense you made
Despite every mistake you ever made
When you chose her to be your everything
Despite how (later) it may have seemed
You were brilliant, and so consumed
By a perfect love in a perfect room
For years you proved
The past was done and you were new
I watched that on film today.

Your eyes glowed, hers could not look away
I wish I'd been more present then
I never understood (really)
All it meant
You were brilliant
In your steadfastness
There is envy in my remembering
You loved her with a poet's imagining
Though you're gone
She glows...
Near perfect
Except for the sad sweet remembering
Interrupting everything.

True Art

Your evaluation of me
Has not been kind
Cloaked as truth
It is dry, tightly defined
It forces your vision
To see in black and white
Missing color, depth and light...
Now you tell me art
Is an individual thing
Meant to move each person differently
And if you're not inspired by me
Perhaps there is less art here then I believe
An individual choice, you think
Now I tell you, art remains
Lack of vision cannot change this
It will exist.
You can chose not to buy
Dismiss my attempts to frame and light
Evaluate in black and white
Colors shout, depth it bleeds
It keeps me kind as you leave
We were art, you can't change this
It will exist.
