A Brother's Love

So...I watched it
Your memorial. It only took a year, plus four
Not bad, I think
I never really thought I would...
Or could
I was...conflicted
Torn between the sad sweetness of remembering
And my anger at our reduction
Reduced to film, a commemerative
Conflicted by the art of it
Near perfect, shaped by love
Even I was awed by this.

I never understood
(really)
How much sense you made
Despite every mistake you ever made
When you chose her to be your everything
Despite how (later) it may have seemed
You were brilliant, and so consumed
By a perfect love in a perfect room
For years you proved
The past was done and you were new
I watched that on film today.

Your eyes glowed, hers could not look away
I wish I'd been more present then
I never understood (really)
All it meant
You were brilliant
In your steadfastness
There is envy in my remembering
You loved her with a poet's imagining
Though you're gone
She glows...
Near perfect
Except for the sad sweet remembering
Interrupting everything.
