Lally Nunez Poem
Grandma Wings
By Lawrence M Nunez
Dear Lord I pray,
That you give my grandma wings
Like the Angels in my dreams
That from heaven flies
To stand watch at night
Over me as I sleep
That she too my angel may be
Tonight and forever
Let them be pretty O lord
as the lilies of the fields,
white as the morning clouds,
Light as the feather of a dove.
like the glistening snow
and shimmering sea
her wings will glow,
as she stand watch
night and day, every day
guarding me as I sleep and play.
I could see her now O Lord
the big old smile
The kind and loving words
The twinkle in her eyes
Wings outstretch
whispering I love you darling,
It will be okay
For now I have my wings
To stand guard tonight as you sleep
Grandma I miss you so
I remember the talks
And the laughs
Even the tears we shed
Both you and me
Mine out loud without a care
Yours in secret because you care
Thank you Lord for giving her wings
To stand guard tonight as I sleep
Lord I pray you give her rest
Peace and joy untold
No more sorrow no more pain
but beautiful wings
that she may from heaven fly
to stand watch over me tonight
as I cry myself to sleep
bidding her good-bye with a heavy heart
I say good bye grandma good bye

Lally Nunez Poem
A loan from above
by Lawrence M. Nunez
Dear Lord I loved her so
and it hurt to see her go
it pains my heart
to be ripped apart
words cannot express
this deep distress
somehow I know
I have got to let go
for she was just a loan
from the angels you own
the pain is so deep
it is difficult to sleep
they say it will be okay
healing is on its way
but only you can heal
the topsy turvy I feel
I know deep inside
with you she now reside
for she was just a loan
from the angels you own

Lally Nunez Poem
Mama I thought of you today
By Lawrence M Nunez
Mama I thought of you today,
Couldn’t help but remember your sweet smile
And soft whisper as you lay on your bed
I prayed the Lord for comfort and peace
That you these days may live by grace.
For now we know by your work stained hands
We surely are blessed
Mama I thought of you today,
When as a child you held my hand
As I walked through life little troubles
You told me you can’t fight my battles
But to stand, fight and defend myself
Don’t you start any fights you said, but don’t get beat up
Surely I am blessed, to have a mama like you.
Mama I thought of you today,
When as a teenager fresh out of high school
I came home my first job I wanted to quit
You said my child you have to stoop before you can kick
Reluctantly I returned, endured and worked hard
You taught me the value of hard work
Today I am blessed with the virtues you taught
Mama I thought of you today
Manly I stand, spouse and kids at my side,
Well molded and shaped for success.
Though it was rough, today with pride I smile,
As I stop and think of the wisdom you did impart.
The unconditional love you treasured in your heart,
I am blessed to share today with family and friends.
Mama I thought of you today,
As I knelt by my bed to pray
I thank the good Lord for the times we had
When you thought me how tovlive, love and pray
Now I pray the Lord to smile on you
To hold your hands and comfort you
As I whisper, mama I love you

Griga Christmas cheer
By Lawrence M. Nunez
Christmas in Griga was a special day
We celebrated in a special way
It was never about a gift or a toy
But rather happiness and joy
The toys were good for only a day
For the good ones mommy couldn’t pay
And all we needed was Christmas cheer
No chimney we had for Santa to come
Parcels from states we did get some
Luis Liu, James Chee, and Leo Liu
McKenzie, Dick Usher and Alberto Liu
Our Stores down town fully decked out
Not with lights but friends shout out
Celebration in the air and Christmas cheer
Freshly varnished tables and chair
The sound of music in the air
Linoleum or Marley on the floor
For those that were not really poor
Like cake and Fanta we had to share
With those who brought laughter, joy and care
Blessings, glad tidings and Christmas cheer
Santa you would never see
For there was none by Carib sea
Parents worked hard for what we got
No Santa we had to sit on his lap
Jankunu for us was the mark of the day
House to house to those that would pay
For that was our Christmas cheer
Warini we had on Christmas Eve
All dressed up in banana leaves.
Jankunu on Christmas day would dance
Regally dressed, impressive as they prance
Cherikanari would be the day after that,
Hunta man and Bagasu would have their spat
And this completes our Christmas cheer.

Lally Nunez Poem
From where I came
By Lawrence Lally Nunez
On the shore of the Caribbean I stand
Steadying my gaze with my hand,
Searching far beyond the sea
With My cup of fever grass tea
To sooth my mind, body and soul
This is not my only goal
For I want to see from where I came
And how my father played the game
Yurumei they say was my home
Where life was sweet as the honeycomb
hudut, tapou and ereba I ate
Peeled, mash, beat and grate.
Real fresh I had my fish
To make these delicious dish
As I look from where I came
I know my mama played the game
In these times the world is new
With I-pads and cell phones I grew
Today I am lawyer, policeman and actor
All I needed then was a bush doctor
Whether I was happy jolly or blue
To keep me together he had the glue
I must know from where I came
In order for me to play the game
Friends you need to know the creed
Don’t be guided by your greed
Don’t sell your people for monetary gain
For you will suffer consequence and pain
The legacy we get is to hold and preserve
For this our children they do deserve
Please know from where you came
You need to learn to play the game

Lally Nunez Poem
TOMORROW DAWN
BY LAWRENCE M. NUNEZ
Arise my brother, it is tomorrow
It is the dawn of a new day
as brothers we will band
together we will stand
our leader is on the way
our souls cries out to our fathers of old
for along the way we’ve lost the gold
Losing our children, not in pride
to gang violence and those that will ride.
But hope cometh only with tomorrow’s dawn
Oh great leader be true we pray
For many are trying to lead us astray
In sheep clothing and words to woo
They claim they know, you know who
Dividing they conquer, they refuse to stand
Arise o’ great leader appointed from above
guided by the our ancestors as instruments of love
Lead us to the promise Land where plantain grows
the fishes run wild and the cool breeze blows
give our offspring hope for the dawn of a new day.

Lally Nunez Poem
I love you
By Lawrence M. Nunez
The first time I saw you,
I remember the day,
Seem like just yesterday.
a bounce in your step,
A smile on your face,
a twinkle in your eyes.
Without a word,
You said I love you.
The first time I met you,
I remember the day,
Seem like just yesterday.
Introduced by a friend,
a warm embrace,
a gentle squeeze.
I was way too nervous
To say then I love you.
The first time we kissed,
I remember the day,
Seem like just yesterday.
You held my hand,
I looked into your eyes,
Without a cue I stole a kiss.
Right then and there I knew,
I had to say baby I love you.

Lally Nunez Poem
Covered and Protected
By Lawrence M Nunez
Muhammad Ali told his daughter,
Everything God made valuable
in the world is covered and hard to get to.
Where do you find diamonds?
Deep down in the ground,
covered and protected.
Where do you find pearls?
Deep down at the bottom of the ocean,
in a beautiful shell, covered up and protected.
Where do you find gold?
Way down in the mine,
with layers of rocks, covered and protected.
“Is not Your body sacred?
You’re far more precious
than diamonds, pearls and even gold
You should be covered too.”
Muhammad Ali told his daughter,
In the book “more than a hero”
I join him saying “cover up”
You are more precious than the Angels in heaven
by his blood you are covered and protected.
