Black Veils

Almost like wearing an eternal hat of shame
Black veils hide the blame
Shadowy onlookers dying to see under the opaque
Their eyes deepened in curiosity expecting some day the veil would break
Dawn never looked so dark before
Horizons under veiled eyes once more
Continuously blocking out your connectors to the world
Denying your difference a chance to be accepted
Ashamed boy, Ashamed girl
However, credit to living freely, your body you’ll show
While in tack stays the veil; behind it, no people will know
Black tints faded into black shades, made
Partially reflective, partially transparent; one-sided mirror blades
Unveil and remove one trains of thoughts
To grab a hold of a world that lets you teach as you will be taught
Almost like wearing an honored hat of truth
No veil, just the bare nature of you

The Booty

Stop and stare
She gave them the check
men gawk at her derriere

I Am Value, I Am Woman

I am value.
No amount of dollar bills made my worth.
My value is understood
Because it is of the Earth.

The ultimate source of life
The greatest oven of love
Never depreciate what carries being
Never question the answers that came from above

The Only Voice That I Have

Money may not be
Key. But it speaks loud and clear.
The mean green echos.

Dear Caregiver

Dear Caregiver…
You told me to stand alone
so I stood there in shoes I’ve outgrown.
You said many things
and need I not forget how you would sing
in those car rides with the windows down.
Late at night listening to the tires scale the ground.
I always knew when you felt some kind of way
by how red your eyes got and how lame your head would lay.
Needless to say your moods were episodic.
You’d say yes and mean no, but eventually I got it.
I couldn’t wait for mornings when the nights were too dark.
I would lie alert staring at the stars that sparked.
The stars that gave me life also gave me a mellow sorrow.
Something about the way they breathed light into rooms so hollow.
Bright sun rays started my days
and the heat was enough to set fires ablaze.
Hot with rage the teapots blew.
You said it was the cure to your
blistering headaches after you had a few.
A kid like I, I wasn't a pesky thing
I dressed myself and even answered the doorbell when it would ring.
My dog Rex was never too far behind.
Whenever I needed help he was all I could find.
Down the street I would spot my school bus.
It was always reliable, stable, and a savior for both of us.
Before you knew it I was gone.
Day after day holding on to clothes I’ve outgrown.
I think I missed the teapots the most.
Pouring cups in the mornings is what brought us close.
After looking at photo albums I had to spare,
I removed the one picture I had of you.
as if you wasn’t even there.

To Be a Leader

Reminiscent days
I remember being lost
My eyes were glued shut
Lead by Jesus pure promise
Now I see; to lead; first follow

dedicated to to future leaders of america.....

Home Sweat Home

A triangle top
A square foundation
A picketed white fence guarded
by
two spotted dalmatians sitting on the
shaggiest rug that reads
"Home Sweat Home"

Sunday Morning

Sunday
                                                 The Sabbath day
                                             Baking in the sun today
Between the rays of shine and clouds
                                                       Enjoy

Way We Live

Culture is beautiful when expressed in the right light
It is the drum we walk to, dance to
Everyday down city corner streets
It is the obstacles we walk through, run through
Everyday common as the passing faces we see

It is the temptation we indulge in, survive in
Everyday it rises
like the sun
and sets over horizons
It is the songs we hum to, succumb to
Everyday on the mornin' radio
constantly setting the mood
givin' that vision to our way of life

Beautiful culture yields to beautiful life

Before I was seen
and not heard. Now I am both
