So innocent in Thy slumber,
The dreams and vigils of the day
gone by.
No furrow marks Thy brow.
No trace of teardrops
Glisten from your eyes.
Thou art so much like the flower
Eager for the silver dew...
Thy face is flushed
as dusk rests heavy on the breast,
And as I keep night watch
I love you.

I vividly remember the feeling
As I searched your desk;
With hope of resurrecting
some small part of you...
To discover with agonizing trepidation
that your watch had stopped.
Hands still, unmoving, ticking silenced.
And felt another puzzle-piece fall into place
In the reinforced finality of your passing.
How bittersweet, the realization that
I cannot bring you back.
I cannot love you back.
I cannot dream you back into my life again!
Returning briefly, you cannot stay.
With heightened poignancy I purchased a new battery
To bring your watch to life again.
Thus enabling the pretense that your time
Had never ended.

I want to be.
Just to be.
No questions.
Answers.
Wondering, struggling.
Challenging. Defying.
Beating the odds.
Beating the clock.
Berating myself.
For what I am,
And what I want.
For how to get there,
And how long it takes.
For all of us
Who have no voice,
And little choice.
Running faster
faster
On the hamster-wheel
of dreams.

What does one write,
to comfort and console?
God took his body,
but made him whole.
No longer shackled
to this life of pain,
God raised him up,
And gave him life again.
God stilled his weary
labored breath,
And in exchange,
He conquered death.
So often, Lord,
We fight Thy will.
We struggle with
Thy "Peace, be still."
Life is eternal.
Love does not die!
Believeth this.
And do not cry.

"Twas the evening hour,
and the world was still.
All but a child
and a whippoorwill...
But I chanced to hear
as twilight smiled,
The song of a mother
to her child.
Tranquil and warm,
Sweet and deep,
Rocking, rocking
the child to sleep.
Singing , singing
of stars above,
Singing, singing
of love.

I wish you peace for all life events
that occur without a happy ending.
I wish you the comfort in solitude
that peace provides.
I wish you prayer to sustain your hope
within the darkness.
I wish you happiness,
which will not come immediately,
But which will come in time.
I wish you appreciation,
when the work load is too tough.
I wish you faith to know that everything
happens for a reason;
even when fathomless
as to what that reason may be.
I wish you the caring of friendship,
to wrap around you like a warm blanket
on a long cold night.
