Golfing

You’re in Palm Springs, not much to do
But golf and get some sun
Hop on a cart, still almost dark
Get out and have some fun

Line up your shot, you’re feeling hot
You try hard not to push
But half the time, like you were blind
It ends up in the bush

You curse and swear like no one’s there
Dig up a chunk of dirt
You hit a house, feel like a louse
Thank God no one was hurt

You hack around, rip up the ground
The hole seems ’way too small
You miss your shot and swear a lot
This is no fun at all

Every shot’s worse than the last
No matter how you try
They don’t go where you want them
It makes you wanna cry

Your buddies laugh, you stand and chaff
You ask them what’s so funny
They grin and say, “Looks like today
You owe us lots of money”

Finally when you make a shot
You think you’re getting hotter
You rip the next shot long and hard
Straight into the water

Every shot makes someone smile
Somehow it’s never you
A foursome comes up from behind
Asks if they could play through

You shank and pull you slash and slice
You finally get around
The only part that you enjoy
Is when you’re homeward bound

You practice ‘til the sun goes down
Determined not to fail
The more you try the worse it gets
You just groove your slash and flail

Today I had a real good day
I’m happy as could be
Had lots of fun, me and my Hon
Stayed home and watched TV

The Hooker

It was in the mists of morning, beneath the rising morning sun,
We had come to conquer Ft. Langley, It was me and Al and John.
We had all teed off quite nicely, on number one I scored a seven,
But Al warned me that one was easy when compared to number eleven,

His eyes clouded as he spoke of it, I thought, God, it must be tough.
If its difficult for Allan, for me it'll be really rough
Now Allan is a golfer, par excellence, among the best
But we 'could see that number eleven, had put him to the test.

Well we carried on like troopers, we thrashed 3 & 4 & 5.
In the cool Ft. Langley morning, it felt great to be alive.
We left six's fairway smoking, seven posed a little hitch
John and Al were on the fairway, while I had smoked one into the ditch

Al was getting on a roll now blasting off just like a gun
But John was coming on like blazes nipping hard on Allan's buns,
We drove off on number 9 hole blasting off out into space
In the distance stood eleven ….we saw tension on Allan's face.

For eleven is a nightmare reserved only for the deft
For pressing hard against you is the river on' the left,
It appeared that Al had been there for his trembling would not cease
As we walked toward the tee box Al dropped briefly to his knees

We could feel the tension mounting, by Allan's eyes we could clearly tell
That the three of us were standing at the gate of golfers hell.
John was first up to the tee box drove a beauty down the pike
I was next and drove off nicely, center line and slightly right.

Al approached like he was frozen by the fears of hooking left
But he mustered his composure till he seemed quite calm and deft.
Be careful Al, we cautioned for on the left beyond those oaks
You'll be straight into the river and that costs two penalty strokes

Al teed up and drove his ball off picked his head up for a look
It was far and straight and pretty then 'oh my God' it started to hook.
It disappeared beyond the treetops Allan's jaw dropped in a gasp
In the distance we were certain that we heard a little splash,

Now Allan is a scholar predisposed to being kind
But he muttered as we snickered something about kissing his behind.
Al said damn I'm shooting 3 now I said, "No, I think it's more."
John said counting two for penalty I think now you're shooting four

Al bent down to tee another, lined up carefully to the right
Then he leaned in to the sucker and pounded out with all his might
Once again it rose like lightning exploding out into the sky
But when Al looked up to see it he could not believe his eyes

It was hooking to the river and disappeared into the heaven
"Fore" cried Al in horror, John said, "No, I think it’s seven."
Al was losing his composure he was crumbling from the stress
But he knew he had to do it and overcome his sheer distress.

Once again he teed a ball up took his time to take his aim
Let her rip and hit a beauty but oh my God, it did the same.
"Fore" croaked Allan weakly, as I fumbled for my pen.
John said don't forget the penalty I think now you're shooting ten.

Al staggered to his golf bag, his knees weak and soft as butter
He fumbled with his golf clubs and finally he pulled out his putter.
It was only with much urging, he agreed to try it one more time
This time he hit a beauty straight down field on center line.

As we helped Al down the fairway walking off the eleventh tee
We thought we heard the devil laughing through the breezes in the trees.
We could see that Al was hurting we knew he'd never be the same
But don't believe him when he tells you, that he's given up the game.

He'll be golfing till he dies, we think he's real hooked on the sport
But Al, as a professional golfer you’re coming up a little short.

The Plight

THE PLIGHT
I never cease to ponder at the turmoil in my life
Though I feel my soul is peaceful it is manifest in strife
While the strife is all internal 'neath a self content facade
Turmoil rises in the absence of at-one-ment with my God
Is it merely my perception? Am I resisting taking heed?
Should this life be one of resting, or is it strife I need?

It should be a simple matter to find the purpose of this life
Is it growth I need from striving or is it rest I need from strife?
Is it focused introspection, is it altruistic love?
Is it spiritual reflection, or is it all of the above?
For sure it’s more than economic, yet while that’s necessary too
Is it our souls’ evolution that makes it all worthwhile to do.

I can see no point in living just to pass another day
I must have something more worth giving, than just to pay my way.
It would be so much the simpler if a man could know for sure
What his purpose is for living, his evolvement to procure.
Will my purpose well within me? Could a vision not appear?
And suggest a clear direction to pursue while I am here.

I’m so tired of treading water, putting time in ‘till I die
There must be something more constructive waiting for me by and by
I have fancied other options but none have succored to my taste
Yet to continue what I’m doing simply put, seems like a waste
So it seems the only option is to carry on and wait
And resolve that when I’m called on I will not hesitate

I have learned of soul eternal, on an endless ageless quest
Taking various forms and bodies, each to serve its purpose best
With each lifetime experience and with every lesson learned
It’s one step closer to perfection that the growing soul has earned
For it’s purpose is advancement, and to not be left behind
In it’s struggle for ascension to God, the universal mind

I have friends who understand me, superficially at least
I have others who are certain I have succumbed to the beast.
I have family who despise me as a traitor to the faith
Very quick to, criticize me and condemn me as "off base"
I have learned I must not judge them, t’would be a travesty indeed
For they are only doing what ‘ere it is that their souls need.

In the meantime, I’m impatient, that my calling has not come
It’s quite clear that I’m not ready, sufficient learning’s not been done.
The problem’s not with others, nor need they change for me
The work must all be done within me for my soul to be set free

Children of Aquarius

The Children of Aquarius
Are a great delight
They are quick and nimble thinkers
And their minds are all alight

They have knowledge at their fingertips
They have everything they need
To live a full and fruitful life
They are fortunate indeed

Since the Age became Aquarius
And the Age of Knowledge has begun
The world has changed completely
By precession of the sun

There has never been a time
In this life waves history
Where access to information
Came so quick and easily

There is nothing they can’t research
Not a thing they cannot learn
To find all the information
So any doctorate they can earn

They have knowledge to protect them
And their minds can be set free
From old fashioned superstition
And religious tyranny

They’re now past being frightened
By the old and worn out knell
That we heard too often
“Go to church or burn in hell”

Knowledge has increased their minds
And they can finally see
That there really is no difference
Between the likes of you and me

Yes, the children of Aquarius
Are a new and better race
And it falls upon their shoulders
To bring some changes to this place

Now they will work together
To clean up the mess we made
Maybe they can save the planet
Before it is too late

When I Die

When my life has finally left me and my last breath has been shed
And the silver cord is broken and my bodies firmly dead
I shall hover near the body, download the scenes of this past life
Noting all minutest details rolling backwards past my eyes

I’ll store these scenes ‘til later when I can take the time to learn
What the lessons have to teach me and help me to discern
How I treated other people, made them happy, made them sad
Examine all my actions, both the good and the bad

Three days later I’ll lose interest as my focus moves away
From the world that I just left behind, there is no need to stay
For a lifetime in the life of man to God is just a day
And my soul as God on the wheel of life must move along its way

I’ll take the download with me as I move into first heaven
It’s the first stage in the afterlife, in number there are seven
Here I’ll see and feel the good things that to others I have brought
And revel in the feelings of the kindness that I wrought

I will store these in my seed atom so in future lives I’ll know
They’re the things that I must multiply for my souls’ conscience to grow
For the conscience is the souls’ voice that guides you day by day
That still small voice that warns you in what you do and say

When that’s done my view will shift then to the things that I did bad
To the hurt I did to people that left them feeling sad
I will feel their pain intensely, ten times worse when in this field
For I’ll be purely spirit now with no flesh for a shield

These painful lessons will imprint upon my seed atom as well
In some religions we are told our soul’s in everlasting hell
In the stages of the afterlife, this is your punishment in heaven
This is the third and the most painful of the total seven

The Grim Reaper now has visited with his scythe so I will know
Through natures Law of Consequence I will reap what I did sow
He has shown me all my misdeeds and caused me many tears
And this purgatorial experience may last for twenty years

When my suffering soul recovers and the pain has died away
And I’ve incorporated the lessons to never act this way
In future lives I’ll be a better man from these lessons I have learned
One step closer to perfection that my growing soul has earned

Now I can sleep, Oh peaceful sleep, a state of heavenly rest
I’ll dream the dreams I love in life, of things I love the best
All desires that my soul has yearned, not a thing I can’t create
In the Great Silence of the spirit world to help me concentrate

The colors are much brighter, the scent of flowers more sublime
The senses are much sharper, there is no sense of time
I will see all other people as pure souls just like me
And I’ll know we’re all evolving to the bliss of eternity

I will hear the mystic music of the planets as they pass
Like a thousand singing angels, heavenly peace has come at last
Every planet sings its own song, we’ve grown deaf to this below
But in this super consciousness we’re in the eternal flow

I’ll be with my friends and family and others whom I love
The ones who left before me and currently live above
There they wait with arms wide open and rejoice when I arrive
In the fourth stage where I now live, it’s utter joy to be alive

I’ve incorporated my lessons, I now recall my goal
And my mind begins to focus on further growth of my soul
I must make further preparations and my vision starts to clear
I feel I must keep moving forward for all my works done here

I now have gone through five and six, there is just one more
In years it’s been from birth to birth one hundred forty four
The time has come to move along and leave this place called heaven
Prepare for life in the physical world, I move to number seven

My soul has gathered the material, I now know what I must do
To make some more improvements in the places I need to
I must take another body, I must live another life
To grow and liquidate more karma though it means more pain and strife

I build an archetype of the body that in future I will form
When embodiment is offered, and I can be reborn
I will see the opportunities and be able to discern
The ideal embodiment for me when the right egg meets the sperm

I will hover near the fetus, influencing where I can
And I’ll have the power to make it be a woman or a man
I will help to build the body to suit the lessons I must learn
To overcome more issues so more advancement I can earn

When baby takes its first breath and my soul is taken in
With the imprint of my seed atoms that it has brought within
Now the babys’ atoms resonate to my seeds vibration rate
Making it the perfect body for my soul to habituate

The new body will be my new home, I will live a life anew
Gain experience, learn more lessons, through the things that I will do
I’ll apply the added knowledge that I learned in this past life
More evolved than in the last one, and cause me less pain and strife

This will happen just as often as required by the soul
As it pushes ever onward, pushing ever t’ward its goal
Of complete re-integration back from whence it came
To the universal soul of life no matter what its name

Nature is not personal, it does not seek revenge
If we mess it up we have the chance to do it all again
We arrived here by this process, nothing’s changed it’s still the same
But our souls have evolved immensely since we stepped into the game

We started out as fallen angels with no experience on this plane
We’ve grown to this by coming back again and again
Though we cannot remember for each conscious mind has died
The feelings in the soul remained in our subconscious mind

And so this is the story of the cycle of the soul
As it struggles through evolution on its way toward the goal
It’s this way for all unfailing, from natures law there’s no relief
All living things go through it, no matter their belief

The Slicer

We were golfing in the morning
It was me and my friend Bill
We were on hole number seven
Everything was going well

I drove my ball straight down the fairway
The shot was pretty nice
Bill leaned hard into his shot
But he had a tendency to slice

It disappeared toward the Condos
We could hear a frightening crash
The picture window tinkled down
Pieces lying on the sash

He said I must go and apologize
To the lady in the place
He found her lying in her chaise lounge
Dressed in frilly things and lace

He went in to check the damage
That he’d done to her place
He came out two hours later
With a big smile on his face

She said don’t worry ‘bout the damage
I already have been paid
My day has started very nicely now
What a difference it has made

I may have lost a window
But the breaks been very nice
You can stop in any time
It has been a slice

Crossing the Bridge

I’m standing at the entrance, there’s another bridge to cross
Will this next step in my journey bring me gain or loss
Should I take the next step boldly? Should I shrink away in fear?
Will it bring me victory? Or will it bring me tears?

I’ve seen other victims lying, crying on the ground
And I know they’re not the kind of folks I like to be around
For they like to blame another for their trouble and their pain
Never lay it at their own feet where it should be lay'n

We’re the masters of our own souls, there’s no one else to blame
We chose all these conditions, now we must play the game
We came to learn some lessons, we set it up this way
We wrote the rules, the whistle’s blown and now it’s time to play

Each life presents more problems, there for us to solve
We’ve planned it very carefully, to help our souls evolve
Before we’re born we see our failings, see what we must do
Then choose a life that will correct the things that we need to

We choose the right environment that will help us best
To resolve our issues, and put us to the test
We choose our friends and family to help us with the task
Confront us with our issues, whatever we did ask

Though we can’t remember, with some deep thought you'll find
Our souls did this within us, in our subconscious mind
So when we meet the problem and don’t know what to do
Remember that we put it there, a hurdle to push through

The soul is on a journey and goes from life to life
It grows by overcoming all forms of pain and strife
That one day it can reach, through all the steps it’s trod
That perfect state, reintegrate, fully back with God

So here I stand now wond'ring, my heart begins to race
As I recall my purpose for coming to this place
I charge forward boldly with not a backward glance
And thank my God within me for giving me the chance

Revolution In Togo

NEWS Item AP: TOGO
LOME – In an effort to topple a government set up to end a 24 year dictatorship rebellious army troops seized the state broadcasting station yesterday, then left the building but returned several hours later and recaptured it. Up to six people died in the clashes. The rebels forced a broadcaster to report demands that the prime minister Joseph Koffigoh resign and dissolve the high council set up to oversee the transition from military rule to democracy.

Revolution in Togo

I was lying on my lawn chair on a sunny summer day
With a dozen pack of Heineken and there I planned to stay
My wife came screaming from the house, most upset I must say
She knew there was trouble brewing, that I’d have to go away

In her hand she had the newspaper, waved it wildly in my face
I looked quickly at the headline and my heart began to race
What, I cried, a revolution? That could not be the case!
A revolution out in Togo? But we all came from that place!

“That’s impossible” I shouted, it is such a peaceful place
A revolution out in Togo? What a terrible disgrace!
I wondered what was brewing, what the problem there could be
My imagination then took over and the rest is history

I could see the picture clearly, I could see it all come down
It was all about the money, and the purse strings of the town
John Mulroy’d been in opposition for two terms maybe three
He was sick of watching the corruption and all the bribery

The foreigners came from Makaroff and San Clara and took hold
Taking all the jobs and contracts, lined their pockets with our gold
Johns support from Runnymede and Kamsack were stuck outside
Getting menial jobs and thinking they’d been taken for a ride

Rollie Hamel was Johns inside man, he was working for the town
Telling John what was going on and what was coming down
John was now determined to stop the debauchery
And raise himself an army to set the people free

He got the Nabe boys and the Burbacks and a couple of their friends
To mount an armed insurrection and bring this to an end
They quickly took the broadcast station in the back of Richies’ store
Within two hours the regular army came crashing through the door

What a standoff as they stared each other down with dirty looks
Talking about the law and the dubious entries in the village books
It was turning ugly for no one was backing down
But Richie’s store was also the only liquor store in town

In the meantime I had panicked with a sense of responsibility
For there are times when a man must fight to protect his dignity
I sold my house and all my toys to buy supplies and guns
To try and save the homeland from the invading Huns

I arrived in Togo just in time to get to Richies’ store
And found a bunch of bodies lying passed out on the floor
What happened? I cried, with dread to anyone that could hear
John Mulroy said, with groggy head, t’was the best party of the year

“We came down last night to have a beer and watch the hockey game
Drank a too much and passed out on the floor here, what a shame
We drank up all the whiskey, the whole supply in town
Then we finished off the moonshine as the third period wound down”

I said “What happened to the revolution going on here at home?”
He looked at my newspaper article and said “No, that says in Lome”
Lome I said, confused now, where the hell is Lome?
He said that’s in a place called Togo, I said well…. that is my home…..?

He said “No you idiot, that’s not here, it’s an African country
Everybody’s heard about it”, I thought “Yeah, everyone but me”
I said “Damn it, I’ve got loads of equipment, what can I do with it?”
He said “Sell it I guess, to tell the truth I don’t really give a shit”

So, I have two dozen crossbows, two hundred arrows and 3 Willis jeeps
I came fully prepared to fight the war, prepared to play for keeps
I have enough stores and weapons so any revolution I can dowse
I’m trying hard to sell it now so I can buy a house

The Flood

The Flood
It was springtime in the foothills, the air was fresh and clean
The snow pack in the mountains was the most there’d ever been
It was summer in the valleys but above was freezing cold
With every day some inches being added to the snow

A pretty town is nestled in the pretty valley pass
A pretty creek runs through the town through parks of pretty grass
Houses nestled near the creek side to watch the water drain
From the blocks of subdivisions built there on the flood plain

The early summer heat was building up relentlessly
The higher snow was melting off the mountains and the trees
The mountains trapped huge rainclouds, dropped their payloads on the snow
In the hot sun all the water had just one place to go

It was running off the mountains heading for the town
But no one there suspected they were about to drown
They’d build small dykes and thought that they had naught to fear
City engineers had said “It’s safe to build down here”

They went about their business while the water built up steam
Rain still coming down it hit the town along that tiny stream
It was now a mighty river, broke its banks to flood the town
Flooded houses, stores and highways as the deluge tumbled down

They could here the roar and feel it in the middle of the night
Rocks and logs and tons of dirt washed down on everything in sight
Some did not escape for they were trapped there in there bed
There were many hurt and there were others that were dead

It was impossible to imagine such a deadly tragedy
But when you mess with nature you will always lose, you see
For nature is not personal it does what it must do
And when you try to change it its old habits will come through

The houses are in ruins, all possessions were destroyed
Nothing left for them of all their things they had enjoyed
Everything was covered up with grime and filthy mud
From sewer lagoons and septic fields ripped up by the flood

The town was devastated people lost all that they had
The people were upset, they were frightened, they were mad
They moved some out to trailers where they still live today
And now the only issue is who is going to pay?

The insurance companies claim that it was an act of god
That they are not responsible, not prepared to give the nod
The people say the City Hall permitted them to build
It’s their responsibility so they should pay the bill

They were given many promises by governments large and small
Who knew very well that they could not fulfill them all
The people waited for assistance, lived with relatives and friends
Waiting for the time that they could move back home again

The government paid them pennies and that was all they got
Their houses now have just been left to sit right there and rot
Their properties now are worthless for who’ll buy them again
We all have learned the lesson, not to buy on a flood plain

Yes, some buildings were rebuilt because they were high profile
The press had found it handy to make some people smile
But the average guy with just a house will have to stand in line
To get a tiny handout, he’ll have to bide his time

The bureaucrats and officials only seem to pace the floor
The engineers say “Let’s not let them build there anymore”
But the damage has been done and many lives now are in ruin
And no help will be coming for them anytime soon

The valleys and the canyons were all carved out this way
Nothing’s changes if we decide to build a town there today
Nature rolls along like nothing’s changed along its normal route
We must move back for nature is the one that has the clout

A Noble and a Traveler

From some other time, from some other race
I’ve stopped for a visit, from some other place
A sovereign soul, I retain still a trace
Of all other places I’ve been to in space
I’ll stay ‘til I’m tired and learn what I must
Then move on with joy to my home in grace

My clothes are my body, it will fall of in dust
It’s only borrowed, yet a great sacred trust
Genetics of my parents, my soul, my own
And I owe them greatly for their selfless loan
It serves for the moment, and offers a ride
To view my creation, I produced from inside

I’ve passed through the curtain to appear once again
On the stage of the theatre with all of my friends
I’ll learn from them and they’ll learn from me
Interchanging our roles, growing eternally
I retain all the best features that I ever had
With the help of my friends, to these I will add

I’ll wash out my vices, my lusts and my sin
And learn from the voice of my master within
He hears all my wishes, provides all my needs
He gives me the answers and governs my deeds
He is my silent teacher, the voice of the soul
Pushing me relentlessly toward my goal

I’ve been here many times, each time playing the role
That I most needed then, for the growth of my soul
In the fourth generation I’ll appear once again
With a plan for perfection and a lifetime to spend
Seeking final completion of an eons long quest
To reach the last level in the alchemical test

Until finally perfect, no need to return
No problems to solve, no lessons to learn
Then I can rest, my journey complete
Perfected and purified in my creators seat
Then through other dimensions in steps not yet trod
I will finally arrive to reunion with God

I chose this experience and I wrote the play
I chose the actors I perform with today
It has been what I’ve made it, none other to blame
I’m a noble and a traveler, in life’s wonderful game.

Book: Shattered Sighs
