A Mothers Prayer

I hope my child will never know
The crazy life I left behind.
He’ll never know the insanity that torments my mind.
He’ll never know the sleepless nights, the times I walked away.
That he only knows a normal life, it’s this for him I pray.
He’ll never know the chaos, the sorrow, times of pain.
He’ll only know the ocean breeze, stomping puddles, summer rain.
This normal life I see for him, it’s a gift from up above.
May the good lord give him stability, his wonderful gift of love.
From the day he came to this crazy world I started to build a life;
One that is minus heartache, days without strife.
I work each day to keep his world filled with days of joy.
I am thankful for the day I met you, my beautiful baby boy.
My prayer for you this autumn day, is that you will always know
That I will always love you, and hope that you continue to grow.
I pray the lord will keep you safe and forever in my arms.
May he bless you and keep you away from any harm.
This is my prayer for you my son, a prayer for happiness,
A prayer for you this autumn day, to always be blessed.

Lonely Eyes

I shed a lonely tear for you today
Because you are the child
The child with the lonely eyes
I bet you thought no one was looking
I was
I bet you thought no one cared
I do
I fought the monsters under the bed
Because you are the child
The child with the lonely eyes
I bet you thought no one was fighting
I was
I bet you thought everyone walked away
I didn’t
I had a lovely dream today
For the child with the lonely eyes
That you knew that your fight
was never alone
I was with you all the time

Katrina

The raging storms have come and gone;
But the sorrow still remains.
The levies gave way and much was lost.,
And all that was left was the pain.

Refugees, they were called
were left to their own devices
Please help us they begged.
We need to be fed.
Do they know how precious a life is?

We need that piece of paper signed
before we can go in, the government said
Please help us, they cried.
We need food and water.
Or more of us will certainly be dead

Just dot the I’s and cross the T’s.
And then we will be on our way.
Surely, in this land of abundance
they won’t make us wait another day.

How was it to be that we could all could see
The press reach us with such ease
Where was our so called government,
In our biggest time of need?

Help us they cried;
My baby has died.
I guess all our men were all overseas.

Don’t send food or water.
They said,
Send money, that is what we need.
To line the pockets of the fat cats,
That are so filled with greed

And now the time has come to rebuild,
To rise again from the ashes.
The phoenix will rise again my friend.
And Mardi Gras will not just be a thing of the past

Cold December

It was cold the day you left us
The chill in the air still remains
Why did you have to leave us on that cold December day?

Your fight was brave, your determination strong,
But you just kept fighting, kept moving on
I will fight till the end, you said
And then you were gone

Some nights when I’m all alone
I think about all the things we have done
I think about all the times that we had
I think about all the times I had with my dad

I can’t wait to see you again
Then we can go fishing. We can talk about things we used to
About life and love and how we made it through.

I will get by, I’ll be okay
But I miss you dad
And I look forward to the day

I’ll meet you on the other side, my friend
Until we meet again.
