And Then There Was You

I was grasped by the soulless of the dark. Forever pitted and plagued by the weight of the world.
I’ve tried…I’ve tried my whole life to dry my tears.
Even when I’ve given up and I’ve done so countless times…even when I’ve given up I am not free. I cannot shut it off. I cannot flip the switch like a frown to a smile.
Have I ever smiled? I’ve worn a smile but I don’t remember ever smiling.
With a new day I have new life but not a new beginning. It continues from the sleepless nights to the rise of the sun.
My eyes feel heavy. The world feels heavy. My shoulders always hunched from the weight and I had stopped caring long ago.
I use to run…I use to run away from it all, but now I let it capture me. It engulfs me and I drown without a struggle.
I see so many things wrong and I ask why. Why is everything wrong? Why can’t it all be right like I used to see it in my head?
It cannot be right because it never was and probably never will be. Could it really be so simple? As simple as I’ve pictured it every night when I was a child…perfection, happiness, life.
The innocence I wish I never lost.
Loss…I could spend years recalling all I’ve lost and how it shadows the meaningless of what I’ve gained.
Maybe that’s why everything is so wrong…because the answer is so simple.
As I am lost in endless dread of confusion, my mind as hollow as my still heart…a golden light awakens my attention.

And then there was you…

You…the definition of perfection and the true meaning of a smile.
As I write these words I am appalled by its complete and utter smite on paper.
I am appalled by what I have witnessed. The false hope of something so pure as love.
How weak it made me and how pathetic I lusted for it. As it passed…as you passed I grew but delved deeper into the void of nothingness.
I laugh dryly now for I have seen what lies the light hides.

Arbuckle

The ignored speck on the face of a giant world,
More open cultivated land but a fingernail of the agricultural hand,
From hot to cold the seasons change year after year,
The small town with giant character:
They say there is a world out there waiting to be explored, but I have my doubts any place can hold me like you do.
Outsiders see you as a ghost town for they do not know of your will and lived history.
Like the earth stands alone you are my solitary home in the unknown.
I fear one day you will leave me, replaced by corporate greed carrying the same name but not the same welcomed love.
For now we are one, emotionally connected as I take for granted all we have shared.
The burning sun sinks past your concrete simplistic structures as it leaves your empty space, then rises at dawn accompanied by the cool familiar wind as we awake to take on our fate.
You make the days blur to night without a sound, warning or remorse of the dying time.
The scene or theme never changes as if life is on pause but the clock still ticks as we grow old together.
Your children play innocently and ironically they too will know of the isolated world.
Houses come and go, copy and pasted over and over again on your subtle skin.
The green of the trees and grass make you more alive but I see death in your streetlight eyes.
Your cracked roads paved to connect the outside world, desperately looking for something to hold on to.
Quite as a mouse, ignored by the rest of the world,
	Carelessly,
	Cautiously,
	Cunningly,
	Slowing,
	Holding, drowning, living
You are all I have known, welcoming those who travel past you, a stop on the road.
Time may soon forget you but I will always show, love for my gentle home.
Adoring the sense of family, absence of skyscrapers, city sounds, enjoyment of the quiet night, the winter breeze, the changing leafs, knowing thy neighbor, you have always been there for me and I am proud to be from the ghost town, small town, road stop speck, my home, Arbuckle.

The Sufferer

I can see you are suffering deeply
But you cannot escape your self-torture
Subconsciously you are dependent on the pain
And the joy your sorrow brings is what you live for
But when the happiness is taken from you
You cannot stand being alone with your own thoughts
Your mind drives you on the brink of insanity
Playing on your every emotion constantly
Emulating false hope of glee and bliss
But you are a simple person who has never asked for much
All you want from life is a piece of joy
Your desperation will soon sink in
And no one will ever know the reason for your greatest sin

Butterfly

A butterfly flies by and I wonder why,
Why can't I be free, free as a butterfly

My Heart

I gave you my heart
And you gave it right back
So I made my heart bigger
And tried once again
You broke my heart then
I slowly picked up the pieces
It took me forever
But I pulled my heart together
It isn't as good as it was before
But I'll try once more
My heart I give to you
Because it belongs to only you

Life's Secret

I have long since realized life’s secret
Not a day goes by where I have no regret
I wish I could go back before it was all set
But my mind will not let me forget
The day I realized life’s secret
