Ashlyn Russell Poem
Awaken in this reality,
This realm of chaos and
Utter confusion, I'm lost yet
I'm comforted by the noise in
The air that I find my
Thoughts drowned.
What you ask is
Not of me to partake, for
I've missed my turn at
Being cared for, the way
I care for all of you.
How could this
Be? I've not an
Ounce, an inch, a clue of
How this came to be.
Mass destruction lingers...I cry -
Time ticks on and
On.
Childish imperfections are
Frank and apparent like unto
The stench of mold, the
Taste of rot..!
Am I alone in this
Struggle? This battle? This fight? I
Must be - for one look in each
Direction leaves emptiness of miles
And miles long-
But - thanks to you and
You and --- (sigh)
I've found strength in
All I do
I've found courage to
Stand on two,
I've grown up when I
Could have fallen-
I've tried harder when
I could have
Quit.
Thanks to these, at times
Impossible feats
I've become a person of
Stature,
One that others might choose
To befriend.
Although time does
Fade and
Open wounds do heal
And people forgive (some
Forget,)
I do love but...
I will always remember.

Ashlyn Russell Poem
That lone leaf on a fall-stricken tree
Dangles lifeless, browned and dried.
Its' single attached stem weathered
All its' tears already cried...
You're like that leaf little one
So helpless and so cold
Waiting for a strong mighty wind
To grasp you tight and let go...
You're like that stem...
Weathered, dry and brittle
With eyes of ancient years
Yet features of the young and little.
Stricken leaf revive yourself
Quench your thirst this day
Let not the Devil's lair
With countless pains to pay.
You fight little one
The lifeless, stricken leaf
Left with too many scars to count
And endless seas of grief.
Oh stricken leaf revive yourself
Hold fast to that thin branch,
Entice the sun's light to lift you
And let the heavens girth your stance.
Don't let the weakness of others
Crush your inner essence,
Be strong, stand tall
Don't let this be the end of your innocence.
Once vibrant and young
You smiled like the sun's graceful rays
A reminder of happier times
And more cherished days.
Oh caged bird, wounded heart
Believe that birds were meant to fly
Every saddened flower,
Is watered with your soft cry...
Be not that stricken leaf
Who dangles to and fro,
But be that soaring eagle
With its bold and radiant glow.
Prayer be with you,
And love to show
That Hope befriends you
And it's company you shall know.

Ashlyn Russell Poem
i saw you once
in a dream and you were smiling. the
thought confused me-no tears, no frown,
no dark shadows lurking. did i miss something?
did you tell the
truth? did you keep a
promise? all too quickly did
i awake to reality.
you claim to know all of
life's lessons-
you claim to know me...HA!
prove it!
(empty words do not
touch me, they bruise
me and empty thoughts
are empty promises I fade from)
