Bookends

Weekends are a little like
Bookends

They stop you falling
Or lolling too far over
So you don't appear untidy or
At least not so
Uncomfortable

They keep you straight
Give you
Purpose
Show you in your best
Posture

Vertical spine
Keeps you looking fine

Without life's bookends
We just become
Untidy
Unrested and sometimes
Unread

What a shame
When people stay closed

So thank you
Weekends
For keeping us
Perky and
In good order

Perhaps an enthusiast will
Choose to engage with
Our words of wisdom
Adventure
Poetry

Simply because
We appeared at our best

Black and White Keys

I have always tinkled
From a very young age
On the ivory dashboard
From the dots on the page

The musical freedom
Of the song never sung
The releasing of passions
On which I too readily clung

There's a beauty in music
Like a God given joy
From operatic piano
To the cheap plastic toy

It matters not anytime
Any place you can find
If you call out to music
It responds in a rhyme

Your heart will be full
From the start to the end
With a strange, mystic healing
Any fracture, can mend

Oasis

Incandescent emotion
Spills and
Tumbles from pen to page
Iridescent love
Leaps gracefully
Like a gazelle from the
Lion's claws, as the safest
Oasis rises into
View.
Expectation of inspiration
Eradicates those dark emotions
Vividly transforming
Every
Rhyme.
Yet,
The world of things
Haunts the proposed
Innocence of these words.
No
Guilt
Will
Eclipse the bright
Sunshine of some of the
Happiest refreshing moments.
Alone with my thoughts, but still
Raptured and ever grateful for
Every beautiful spirit-filled
Drink to dissolve the driest darkness

Nine Pins

Life throws a curve
It's overdue

A thumb is clearly
Under screw

The wall so cold
Against my back

Lightening strike
Now charred and black

"Nine lives all spent"
Purrs leaping cat

Nowhere left
To hang my hat

A parachute
With twisted lines

An absent ear
For bell that chimes

Cruel Critique
When poem rhymes

Once friendly chat
Now voiceless mimes

A sense of lostness
Overwhelms

Now love resides
In separate realms

Valley

We enter the valley
Of shadows
Of thorns
A narrow path
Well worn

Where friends
Have travelled
Tattered, torn
No sunlight
Before new dawn

We said
Goodbye
Our souls forlorn
Yet hopeful joy
To be reborn

Canadian Snow

My path is icy
But love has melted away
And my feet surely
Tread on the firm route
That is lined with
Deep friendship
Deeper even than
The cold Winter
That Jack Frost has
Clamped around my house
I felt trapped
But kindness
Gentleness
Inexplicable love
Has made a path to freedom
This path I am brave enough
To adventure along

Unshadowed

I'm glad we're friends
You really do
Change my mood
To fresh and new

The strangest thing
My heart receives
Like sunlight for
Unshadowed leaves

I give you time
No chore for me
I think I would..
Eternally

Losing You

I feel like I am losing you
Sorry to be blunt
This poem; not a cry for help or
Attention grabbing stunt

I know you are no possession
And even if you were
I have no claim, no stake in you
I know that you'll concur

And yet I feel quite vacant
Like a part of you has left
Not anxious, just uncertain
This feeling in my chest

I don't know how to fix this
Not wanting to impose
I have to be myself I guess
Not in someone else's clothes

So there. I said it.
I'm hoping you don't mind
It's just this insecurity
That's less than cruel; unkind.

Whenever I get close to you
Your presence makes me soar
It's just the way the story goes
Repeats itself. Once more.

Disillusioned

A magic trick
I'd often feared
You were there
Then disappeared

No rabbit pulled
From empty hat
No cute tulips
Or polished chat

I'd rather
I was cut in two
Than have to deal
With missing you

Blue

Disolve my heart in your pools of blue
Gaze into my soul
Recreate me anew
