Speeding

Speeding!
I didn’t do it; I swear that I didn’t.
The policeman was drunk, I swear that he was.
Then he tried to arrest me, and sure enough he did.
I wish that I’d told him, that I was drunk instead.
I imagine the fine should probably be more,
But I smiled real sweetly, hoping he’d see
I’m not a bad person, it was only speeding,
The speedometer lied, it said 53!

Breathless

Breathless
For My King
By: Melissa Ann Hardin
August 4th, 2019

I want us to be breathless with hope, and fire, and need.
I want us to be breathless with love, and passion, and speed.
I want us to want a moment where neither of us ever wants to let go,
And we stay locked together in hopes we can always be at home.
I want so much to tell you this without fear of pain within our souls.

I want us to be breathless with the freedom we find in our embrace.
I want for breathless to last ages and for time to stop its infinite beats.
I want the world to revolve around us as the sun and moon afar.
I want eternity to hold us in remembrance of loves sweet heat.

I desire a moment where “We” began and a future where “We” still are.
I hold inside me all these dreams where “Our” moments are as countless as the stars.
Where you are my cobalt sky and I am your north star.
Ever constant in our being, ever constant in our hearts.

I want all of these things with the Lord’s truest blessing,
To taste the sweet or the sour at your side,
and know that in each moment we are within his power.
I want us to remember the good times, and the bad,
So we can always hold on to being breathless until we truly are.
I desire our fulfillment and our love to withstand.
I want us to be breathless, just as we’ve ever been.

The Queens Romance

The Queens Romance
For My King
By: Melissa Ann Hardin
January 5, 2022

Sometimes I whisper, alone at night, wishing you were close and thoughtful by my side.
Can’t imagine how life became so complicated, the simple emotions between us shouldn’t have been.
Maybe I wonder too much, maybe we should think less, trust in how we feel,
let the world go by lost to us.
Maybe we should be alone more, maybe a little less,
I guess we’ll know eventually, if we remain unpressed.
I’ve often wondered where you’ve been, why it took so long for us to begin.
One thing is certain, our love for one another has been unmatched by any that came before,
It surpasses all the fantasies and ignites the days with passion.
I’m hoping you’ll always be near me, my secrets safe with you
I’ve got lots of imagination, just enough to see us through?
I left you little notes, nothing much and just enough, to interest your curiosity.
Hoping you’d respond on this journey of our own.
Because we’re both so shy in our regard for one another, I thought perhaps a simple date
might settle our timidity.
You tell me you keep my letters close, so that must be a good sign.
Yet I’m still waiting patiently, as ever I will be,
just in case those letters are the ticket to you and me.
									XOXOXO

Lonesome Hill

Lonesome Hill
Written In Memory of Arlis Walter Hardin, For Martha Ann Hardin
Song: Bluegrass A Capella to heartbeat rhythm helped by Seth Logan Quartermouse
Melody and Lyrics By: Melissa Ann Hardin (Quartermouse) April 2007
Multiple Witness Copyright

Come walk with me to Lonesome Hill.
It’s where my heart is beating still
To every dream we ever knew
Upon that time when love was true.

If you would see how love would grow
Come walk with me along that road.
And you will see how we became from you and I
To love remains.

*Repeat First verse

One day I’ll walk beyond that hill.
For I believe in someday still.
I’ll find your heart with god’s good grace
Awaits me there beyond those gates.

*Repeat First Verse

Come walk with me to Lonesome Hill.
It’s where my heart is beating still.
To every dream we ever knew
It’s where my heart still beats for you.

My Levi's Lullaby

My Levi’s Lullaby
By Melissa Ann Hardin
End of April 2012

If I could take your hand to hold forever I would, to light your days with the purest of passions,
And your nights with fires withheld.
The daydreams I’d reenact for your pleasure.
Of the sunlit lake with limbs entwined, the moonlit fog that entangled us in its mist, or how the candlelight played against our skin in some glade far from prying eyes.
I’ll show you the longing I’ve held to find you, to know you in every way we’ve ever dreamed.
Surrender so sweet we revel in the drowning.
Your hands upon me whispering sweet intentions, of a life we should have known free of recriminations.
If I could resurrect the walls, I once held so forcefully against you, I wouldn’t.
I’m too far beyond the point of no return, letting shadows of us enfold my imagination.
Too far down a path I’ve never known, unafraid if I know you await me at its end.
I go steady and strong to something, far beyond my ken.
How far can this life take us, the answer within our desires lie,
So softly I lay down my heart for my lover’s lullaby.

The Moment After

The Moment After
By: Melissa Ann Hardin
December 6, 2000
Copyright 2003 Melissa Ann Quartermouse

It was the moment after, and I smiled into your eyes.
It was the most lovely afternoon when you joined me by my side.
The sky was clear and bright with just the barest hint of snow,
And with this ring I thee wed we said in hushed and solemn tones.

It was the moment after, and you smiled back into my eyes.
Two hearts that leaped with joy as family watched nearby.
The guests had faded, there were but two, and suddenly I knew.
Forever is not so very long,
Not when love is true.

Flutterfly

Flutterfly
By: Melissa Ann Hardin
July 2001
Copyright 2003 Melissa Ann Quartermouse, 07/30/2003

Now, everyone’s heard of butterflies,
And there’s even talk of houseflies,
But did you know, I have a flutterfly!

Please don’t laugh,
I swear it’s true!
It tickles my tummy
And beats its wings on my ribs.
I went to see the doctor,
But he said it was perfectly named.
And yet I sit and wonder.

Something that tickles and
Pinches cannot possibly by normal.
Instead I think its special
And I cherish every move.
Does my flutterfly know I love him,
As much as I think I do?

When he’s born I can free him
And he’ll be my flutterfly no more.
But a perfect little boy
To love me true forevermore!

Migs

MIGS
By: Melissa Ann Hardin
May 1, 1997

Long ago in a land across the sea lived a man by the name of Damian Stee. He lived all alone with his chickens and pigs, and sometimes he patted his friend, Migs. Now Migs was a big old sow, maybe she was even bigger than a cow. She sometimes could be friendly, most times not, she’d gnaw all day on an old post. Oh yes! Her teeth were very strong. So it came one day when all went wrong.
Damian Stee fed her every day, made sure she slept on comfy hay. Fed her slop and bathed her in buttermilk. Gave her love and hugs because she was his only friend after all. Better than a dog and yet I doubt if you could call her a pet, Farmer Stee once quoted “you just ain’t truly met her yet.” She was mean as a rattlesnake and once a day she tried to eat steak. Nope, that’s not what I mean, you see she’d take a bite off the nearest cow. Farmer Stee would hear them screaming and be met by a growl. This happened eight times! After losing four cows, four chickens, and only finding bones smaller than a dime, Farmer Stee decided that it was time.
He went back to the house and pulled out a big club. He wept a minute, then decided she’d be enough meat to fill up a tub. What Farmer Stee didn’t realize was that Migs thought the same, she waited in the dark and acted quite tame. When Farmer Stee saw her, he thought maybe he should wait. Poor old thing, she did look as if she was losing some weight. He let down his guard and turned to leave, when of a sudden from behind he felt her sweep his legs from beneath. She grabbed hold of his leg and swung him around, up in the air, then down on the ground! The last thing he heard was a sharp crack, then she dragged him and placed him up on the rack. There were no screams anymore, as Migs crunched down at half past four!
The end…sleep well…don’t forget to feed your livestock tonight…;)

Levi's

For Jason Levi Fenwick
By Melissa Ann Hardin
March 1994

Levi’s

Dreams unspoken, land untread upon.
Words unspoken, that crave understanding.
A perfume that wreaks havoc on the senses,
That which cries out for a touch or a whisper.
A bliss unmatched even by tranquility with a carelessness so very unrefined,
A parable of emotions held within so that they are never unleashed except inside.
A seduction so sweet you still burn for more after.
A stillness fraught with energies aligned, where chemistry ignites and passions unfold,
And existence is measured by the prelude to a kiss.
Where emotions are ripped asunder, to melt as a sigh, or a groan of hunger.
Named as desire, which can be either, unrelenting or hoped for.

Willow

Willow
By: Melissa Ann Hardin
February 28th, 2013

In a valley, near a lake.
Someplace clean, far, and safe.
Lies a seed, sown by woman’s tears
For something that would soon be smeared.
For a woman’s heart within it lies,
Marking time in sweeping strides,
The weeping willow here resides.
