Geneva Has Evolved

"Fragments and crumbs of life,
                                  all the little pieces"

                                 John Ruskin 1853

Having lived with our Mom in Sydney for six months
Federal Police returned us to live with our father
He had begun working as the art teacher
at a small Christian school in Tasmania

He and other staff members lived at the school.
I was 8, my sister 6. Geneva was experimental then.
Elementary students were taught together in one hall.
Desks divided from next, talk was completely disallowed.

An American curriculum called ACE was adhered to.
As the art teacher's daughter, naturally I washed all the brushes.
Three utterances compiled in class per day earned detention.
Despite it being 1991, rulers whapped knuckles on occasion.

Cherished butterfly catching buddy, best friend, Penny
Fed apples from ample pile to fence wire necked horses
Dawn saluting dairy sold milk for locals, chapel on site
Peers lived a wall away, an idyllic community lifestyle

Generally, three afternoons per week, my father took
My sister on playground, shopping outings.
I stayed home. Instructed not to go outside.
Staff's children grassy antics gazed at through glass.

I ate vitamin c tablets by the dozen, and scrapings of butter.
A staff member bought all our groceries from a limited list.
I sang for company. There was no radio or TV.
My Dad and sister returned at nightfall. Chewing on sweets.

Alone in the house, I imaged it was a cruising ocean vessel
I sailed down the dim driveway, swamped by giant pines
I took apples, a cow, a Bible, pencils for sketching horses
Sailing on jaunty sun hugged foliage, I was captain

David Flavoured

Enticed by his faceted aspects
                Political points show his honour
                    Policies opposed, David contests
            Left wing woke folk admonished

              Rawness of broad topics examined
                      Cowboy stories of recent history
                             Scenarios derived from within
              Issues which play contemporary

             David flavoured, his firm essence
Infuses my little with his lot
I honestly struggle to explain this
             ... never missed what I don't got

             .. A man who won't take crap
Shallow hits roll off his jaw
My bull wouldn't just lapse -
He'd bleed it dry, peace restored

              Faceless man tells me myriads
                      Written by unwavered conviction
                           Marathon stamina poem olympian
I, willing victim to his inflictions

              Dreaming of David, strange concept
                       - exclusive, by myself for eight years
It's a choice to remain alone, heart kept
Relic packed away, oddly he endears

Hard nosed refusal to enter this century
Old school stance pings my deepest vibe
Unreasonable, how much it means to me
To absorb the jib of David 's scribe

               Around three years his senior
                        In virus time, located overseas
I fixate on his strong demeanour
               In lurid choc chip fantasies

Lucid Lap Dance

Tenacious ichor tells entire construction
Divulges puerile battles during idle procedure
     Relic compiling spotlight show seduction
Library ivory tower truth siphoning beseecher

     Adapted lady adorns princely throne
     Padlock hammocks tween valuable threads
Warm cove cocoon moors love's loan
Imbibing cover only, for information dreads

Mould folded within her novel costume
     Pacifying massage, limbs lubricated levitate
     Elephant keratin tusk thrusts impromptu
Smudge of shame fades chalk dust archaic

Covenant

Sandstone erode into dust harks history's fade
Effected by events, weathered
Crept century torture administers eventual taint
Withered time drives incessant

Battered slate roof removed promotes damage
Cold rain and blazing sun hurt
Cyprus seeds challenge infertile dust, establish
Passage through gathered dirt

Co dependent pieces redefine a weary structure
Fed full on counterpart stength
Capability maps character, freshened functions
Exchange worshipped sentiment

Protected rod trunk tree intersects better entity
Deep dug roots, a chasm shielding
Tumult inevitably threatens to reinstate tentative
Pledge prevails, reliance appealing

Dedicated to tasks, support and every day bolster
Ruin renewed by flaura's courage
Offers availed are automated, mutual responders
Hold each firm in order to flourish

Pastoral Passage - Church Crypt

Butterfly wing door vestibule builds anticipation
Shuffled, carpet muffled greetings, familiar embraces
Piloted by Holy Spirit, seated hushed congregation
Ritual of ornate cathedral thanks hidden crypt rib cage

Enduring centuries, pliable sandstone testiment
God's following holds time proof tenacity
Flared proud corners, pyramid reminiscent
Honour continues amidst shifting society

Solid oak panelled door on wrought iron hinges
Greets round barrel key bearer with ominous groan
Down four slouching stone steps from street edge
Solo visit in sacred space never partaken alone

Curved bookcases cater for leather bound learning
Volumes of theology define best ways
Nook with desk lets liturgist imbibe God's word
Tall back chair, acorn emblems engraved

Beneath majestic vessel, clay damp chamber
Rhubarb velvet curtain, tassel tied to sides
Strongest entity relies on the Lord as Saviour
With worship's dedication, faith survives

In expansion, searcher emerges at alter, cleansed
Hive of etched arches tribute precision architectural
Vibrant robes, sashes draped, silken beacons
Of preparation, celebration of overcoming, renewal

Pulpit's ingrained memory both daunting and welcoming
Deep set lead light showers sombre pews in intimacy
Haloed Christ holds baby, shares parables with children
Crease covered hymn books strum procedural symphony

Lies Awake Scheming

Pretense blinks unthinkingly
prominent neon sign
Promoting delicious wishes
heady aspirations primed

Porous ears absorb spiel
Charmed python entrancing rises
Web weaving traitor traps
victim with outlandish surprises

Silkily wrapped casualty constrained
unsuspecting pawn amusing lure
Deceipt's imminent death awards
trust's established pristine pure

Glitz will blitz framework
Compulsive claims manifest
Embellishment dispelled reveals
authenticity's skeleton undressed

Facade unfastened, centre radiates
fanciful distractions fewer
Universality within, truth begins
ribcage contents not obscured

Fantasies bring brief buoyancy
beguiling sunlit lake beckons
Submerged, burdened by treachery
sub-plot sinks with deception

Scope of hope propels
Capable fables capture listeners
Sugary cubes stirred dissolve
friction breaks tenuous fiction

Candid connection invites valour
Ethics draw worthy goals
Integrity's impeccable map guides
shared navigation nourishes souls

Palestinian Time Behind Us

Harrowing shifts placating Palestinian patients
Awkwardly healing bones, injuries war caused
Comfort we gave seemed severely insufficient
Soul mates meeting among pain, implausible

Crutch hobbling boy with copious haphazard grin
Caught both our hearts, we smuggled him chocolate
You took every free chance to sit and joke with him
Your easy demeanor is medicine, patients responded

Images of rubble sifting shadow-faced citizens
Inescapable magnitude replayed, dream tethered
Impact we made upon fractured limbs and spirits
Told us each smile gained was worthy endeavour

I've speculated our distance pronounced our parallels
A far, foreign land artificially grew our new love found
Strongest logic shows me your benevolence plentiful
Desire stunned us, despite draped shapeless gowns

A year improvising in Gaza's limping hospice system
Threatened to take my buoyancy amongst its tragedy
Compassion you dealt exposed a myriad of wisdom
Guardians of burden bandaged turmoil's inched recovery

Excitement of moving in together, calm logic forgotten
Several short weeks after Gaza, shared goals discussed
A jubilant wedding, white gown without tie backed cotton
Box pile totems, future unpacked together, a time for us

Immortal Gene

Irrefutable evolution conduits
        Matter tip toes through tunnels
        Microscopic nano shifts continue
        Outperformers filter free of funnel

Replicas of kept traits hail heredity
        Thrivers cognate with larger logic
        Attentive nurture forms pedigree
        Love poured over timid progeny

        Genome keys cut exacting bones
        Entrapped wrapped sticky chrysalis
        Nature photocopies, care duly hones
        Elevating banquet, perpetual Christmas

           Elevation in Evolution

Absorbed

TELL me, dear, everything which occupies you
LAY each piece out, display your soul
SELL me utterly all components, oldest to new
SAY absolute etirety, without any toll

FEEL my hands reaching musty content gently
DRAWN out painlessly, your dark place
REVEAL shame and sins as though incidentally
TORN from humiliation without a trace

BEGIN to trust your ribcage, competent holder
Of HEART, outlandish desires wrapped
WITHIN terror of memory allowed to smoulder
DEPART from a prison, ribcage relaxed

IMMERSED in latitude, stream jumping joyous
FORGIVENESS view gifts expansion
TRAVEVERSED in unison, a vocalised voyage
DELIVERS cognition spun in tandem

BLUEST of blue moons we nurture, accessible
GIVING your mind renews our reward
TRUEST thoughts I massage make it possible
LIVING with wisdom, sharing one orb

Caradog's Fight

Faithful companion, Caradog, without necessity
Habitat fed his needs, our bond rapidly developed
Fierce competent hunter amazingly adopted me
Heritage unable to continue, thylacine near relic
Decision to keep him secret was tumult traumatic
Exploited Tiger captured disallowed me to have it

Slender sniff nuzzled friend was a multitude more
Central to my craft's formation, carved wood replica
Tangible muse renews value in sculpting his form
Task of inspiration shed sparks of reaching fire

From my lantern lit table, I intently watched him rise
Stilt like legs stretched, striped yellow rump lifted
Nudged me with gentle nose, wild must be a guise!
Trusting eyes knew domesticity, my heart pilfered

So we walked, accepted man beside marsupial beast
Sharp snout pointed urgently when he detected a meal
Several rats equalled daily quota, Caradog's appease
Showed me hidden nooks, I couldn't figure the appeal
Of providing his secrets, perhaps to dispel theories
Population still existed, a duty he felt was obligatory

Already running in my long local veins, knowledge
Caradog was the final egsample, the last battler
Of a fine Australian species, sadly now abolished
Persistent development trampling their chattels

Option to turn him in to rangers, on my doorstep
Final thylacine female despondent and beyond it
Zoo tourist captivity would instill Caradog torture
Days spent free, ferocious mate bore my fondness
