Stray Dog

He who is born in the ruthless streets of a busy city
I am without a home
A family
Nor a companion
I am all alone

My homes differ from time to time
Abandoned houses, alleys anywhere the streets welcomes me
I am at the mercy of the changing weather
Every day is a battlefield for survival
A gruesome cycle I only wish a good Samaritan may extricate me from

My matted fur is an infestation of ticks and fleas
I have grown accustomed to them to the point where I consider them my family
A fetid odor you may sense
That might be me passing by, turn a blind eye if you don’t mean well
Please don’t charge at me
My weary bones have had enough for one day

Skinny as a toothpick
I make do with the leftovers you throw into the bin
The little I can find to see another sunrise is more than enough
I could cave in and just die in an alleyway somewhere
No one wouldn’t even feel a void of my passing
But my hope to one day have a place where I can belong
Gives me the willpower to strive to see another dawn

To those who have shown me kindness
And only received a bark in return
Forgive me
It isn’t because of hatred
It is because of my leery, dubious and fearful nature
It is the only way I learnt how to survive
I am yet to trust the hands that have shown me no mercy countless times

I only ask you be patient with me
Be gentle with me until I no longer quiver at your touch
Until I can learn how to love and how to receive love
When that happens, I promise you my unequivocal love and loyalty
Just please don’t give up on me

A Curve On the Face

I am one of nature’s most grand masterpieces
Forget the anti-ageing pills and the maquillage
All you need are my fleeting wrinkles on your pretty face
And you are good to go

I am without a price-tag
I do not belong to anyone but I belong to everyone
Summon me and like a loyal dog I will instantly appear
I am of many purposes
Sometimes I tell a great story and at times I am just a mask
A facade that hides a story that cannot be uttered

I am the language that needs no translation
For I am understood by all
My presence can make someone’s day a little bit better
After all, there is nothing as enchantingly beautiful
As the face wearing a contagious illuminating ear to ear grin
One that could go down in history
As the perpetrator that caused a sweet epidemic …

Epidemic

You come like a thief in the night
Unwelcome and Unbidden
You come unknown
Mysterious like the dark side of the moon
You have not revealed yourself to us

Your stay is disheartening
Your ripple effect causes a pandemonium world wide
You could have chosen to be a friendly visitor
But rather you chose to be cruel

Our nations fall at your mercy
Our households quiver at the mere thought of your arrival at their door
You have an insatiable hunger for any warm body
If only you could have been a picky devourer
Only salivating for us the ones who have lived long enough to welcome our demise
If that means our young ones are guaranteed to see another day

For as long as your identity remains unveiled
Our hearts will know no peace
We only ask you to show us mercy
Even if it is in the slightest brief

As the Storm Come To Pass

Enveloped in the mayhem of covid-19
We are seating ducks in our homes
Anxiously pondering about how the world post Covid- 19 would be like
Would it be welcoming?
Or rather vicious like a mad dog?
But one thing is for sure
It wouldn’t be the world we once knew before this insatiable devourer attacked us

The dire need of hospital facilities and human resources has always been a concern
The upheaval covid-19 has left upon its wake has evinced our vulnerability and our paucity of such resources
Such shortage is a concomitant for the increased demand of goods and services in the industry.
The lingering of the crisis shall pave way for the rise of HR talent
Talent of which will be a knight in shining armor that will provide a shed of wisdom on the administrative function of businesses
And when coalesced with finance experts who are adept in the finance department will create an unstoppable team of economy resuscitation at a business level

From this shadow of adversities that has loomed over us
We shall now embrace and sought out the wise owls of consultancy
That will assist in the rejuvenation of businesses from dust to glory,
Meticulous and competent marketers will rank first in the list of the most sought out gurus of marketing
For they will recapture the state of the market to facilitate the revamping of sales
And provide window of opportunity for prosperity in a remodeled economy

The digital world attracted masses and claimed the crown of communication and awareness
It became a weapon of war that substantially contributed to the face off between the world and the malicious Covid-19
With this rise a surge of demand for digital technology experts will be undeniably high
A digital economy will demand our attention
And who will be better for the job than digital transformation mentors
Who will take the world of business by a storm by being the steeping stools toward achieving maximum productivity in a digital economy

A transformational change is upon us
My fellow nation it’s time to prepare for what is yet to be achieved in a world where we tame Covid-19
Despair not
For we shall soon close the curtains on this protracted war
And in victory we will all be magnanimous
There is a long road ahead that is yet to be tread
A time of restoration and building our country anew is right at our front door
We will once thrive again if we allow ourselves to endeavor in change and adaptation
Like a phoenix we will rise above the downturn and be set free from the captivity of this misfortune

Words of a Soldier

They call me crazy
They call me naive
They call me suicidal
But I don’t blame them
They speak only out of love
For their fear of losing me ingurgitate their inner soul like how the floodwater devours the houses and the trees

As for me
I call it altruism for the vulnerable
I call it safeguarding my motherland for my children to prosper on it
I call it liberation from the hands that only knows conflict and bloodshed
I call it being your emblem of freedom
Fear not for I will be your beast of burden
I will carry the weight of the grave economic, political and social repercussions on my shoulders
I will pay the price for our human err so that you get a second chance to mend your ways

In victory I will be magnanimous
Appreciate me not by gold and jewels
But glorify me with your heartfelt thank you and a beautiful smile
Don’t glorify my name but rather glorify peace that I bring on to you
And in defeat don’t weep for my untimely demise
My soul shall become one with the land I loved so much so that I was willing to lay my life down for it

Please I only ask you pay homage for what I have accomplished so far
Tell my family and my country that I did not die in despair
I left this world with a grin on my face
Because I knew I paved way for a better tomorrow for my nation
I was ready to sacrifice myself to give you equanimity and hope for better days
I have served my country well till the bitter-sweet end
I gave it all my very best
Now my weary soul may find rest

Serene Evening

Have you ever wished to be able to capture a moment?
Not by the aid of photography
But by capturing and saving it in the memory that never gets full
For when you want to relive it you can just think about it
Then like a scene taken out from a fairytale
The scenery from that one moment captured in time can materialize
Like opening a wonderland door beaming in anticipation
Of once again getting lost in a world so tranquil
Away from the chaos that’s behind the door

Woke up drunk and groggy from a habitual long day’s nap
The sun was just setting
Longing to take in earth’s air
After being cooped up in the house all day
I strolled to the front door

Like a norm, always having me weak on my knees
Once again mother-nature didn’t fail me
I could smell it, taste it, hear it and feel it
The earthy breeze that greeted me at the door
It enticed me to step outside as if it were a host welcoming his guests in his humble home
I felt one with the wind as it caressed my florid cheeks and stroke my hair
So much tenderness and delicacy in its caress

Far into the distance in the heart of the city the faint sound of cars can be heard
Synchronized with the sway of leaves as they danced with the howling wind
And the chirping of crickets
A sweet serene and compelling melody was created
Face to face with the hypnosis
I let it all go and succumbed to the alluring siren like melody
I was ready to be a prisoner to such phenomenon

As I elegantly drifted around the compound
Swaying with the evening breeze
I never thought the evening could get any better than it were already is
I looked up to the sky still dimly lit by the last rays of the setting sun
It now wore its priceless evening jewelry
That flicked and sparkled as they blushed from my undiverted admiration gaze
I then saw them
In awe, for a brief moment in time it was like the earth came to a halt
Gosh I’d even forgot to breath for a split second
For my eyes were graced by such beautiful splendor

It hanged up there so majestically like a king amongst his followers
Though slim and incomplete its dominating illumination was intimidating
By its side was his loyal companion
He stood there with an angelic outline and captivating radiance oozing from him
It was the two evening princes ;the crescent moon and the star
Such a sight to see aint it
Now wouldn’t you agree with me when I say moments like this should be captured in memories that we can relive whenever we want with the indulgence of all our five senses?

Push

A nudge
A push
A shove
Seems like it’s all I know how to do

A wall once built so high crumbled down by your love
Now quickly re-erects and I crawl back to that safe haven
It’s a sanctuary I retreat to and hide behind when I am most vulnerable
I do not mean to push you away
My flaws
My insecurities
They sometimes get the better of me

Those are the times I need you most
When I push please don’t abandon me
Pull me into your embrace that is what I need
I know
I am complicated
An idiot you may call me
Pushing people away is the only way I know how to communicate the words
‘I need you now more than ever’
Please bear with me

I feel most and I care most
I do not push you away because I no longer need you
Sometimes I bear the burden just so you can find happiness
I love you enough to sacrifice my happiness for yours
To those who took their stand and found the will to stay even when I was unbearable
I am forever thankful
To those who left
I understand
I am sorry
Please do be happy….

Clover Clover Where Can I Find You

Clover clover oh dear lovely clover
Where are you concealing yourself?
Last night I lost sleep again
Waiting in the hope of seeing a shooting star
And make a wish to come across you
I have been frantically scowering the fields in the daylight and failed to find you

Four or three legged I will take you as you are
They say you choose your finders
But am I that unworthy of you
That you keep hiding from my sight and shying away from my grasp?
You are the seeker to our hide and seek game
But I always find myself in the seeking side
I need you and you need me not till you deem me worthy of having you

What are the requirements needed to be your lucky finder?
I promise I will do what need to be done
Clover clover oh dear lovely clover
Swaying freely in grassland fields
Hiding in plain sight
Would you please unveil yourself
You have been in hiding for too long
Do me the honor of being my lucky charm
For my quest as your seeker is forever perpetual

Prayer

Have you ever felt like you needed to talk to someone?
Someone whom you could open the closet to and unveil the skeletons that you have been hiding
Someone who you could connect to soul to soul
Someone who would never get enough of your bickering
And someone who could just lend you a listening ear
Not utter a word back but just… listen

Today your hard-work finally paid off and boy your happiness sure is a sight to see
Baggy eyes with dark circles are not hard to miss behind the heavy concealer on your face
The night owls and the different phases of lunar have become your night companions
With them you have shared the heaviest of secrets of which they promised to hoarder for you
They have seen you through the rocky roads and the gruesome mountain hikes you had to endure
For the sake of being a better you

The neighbor’s cock has been an alarm that never failed to accomplish its duties
Cock-doodle-doo it went and like a zombie rising from the dead you sprung back to life
From a busy night onto a busy day with no complaint
‘Thank you very much’ are the words burning in your mouth
You want to show how grateful you are to someone who is well deserving of your appreciation
Someone whom beside lunar and the owls have been with you from the very start
Someone who will genuinely feel… appreciated

Like a lamb who got separated from its herd
A wanderer who roams aimlessly
With no destination and a place to call his own
Falling deeper and deeper into the abyss
A hollow you slowly transform into
That feeling of being lost, alone and empty
Assurance you desperately yearned for
A warm embrace you badly needed
Someone who will be there for you
Someone who will just… reach out for your hand and help you see the light once again

Sometimes that ‘someone’ is like a pearl in an oysters mouth
Rare and hard to find
Friends and family who are just one call away
But yet hard to reach out to them
Only one Being that never fails to answer your call
Always available every second of the day to give His unending and undivided attention
Always there when you need someone to talk to

He thrives in your praise for all the things He does for you out of pure love
Like a mother bird He shelters you under His wings and protects you from all ill fates
He gives hope to those who are lost and guides them back to the herd they strayed from
He’s been abandoned and betrayed countless times but yet always have a soft side for all of us even those who turned their back on Him
He is there through thick and thin
He is a friend, a family that will never betray you
All you need to do is dial His number through a Prayer and He will answer in a heartbeat
Forever with you…
