Meet the Natural Disasters

My name is Lightning.
I like to put on light shows
As I travel with Thunder,
Around the world with rainstorms.
Though I am fantastic to watch,
I can also be deadly,
Cause minor damage to buildings and trees,
And sometimes I start fires.

My name is Tornado.
What I do on land
My brother Hurricane
Does on the water.
Using very strong winds,
As I go around in circles,
I destroy everything in my path
Until I have no strength left.

My name is Flood.
I show up when man-made
Water holding structures break
Or rivers overflow their banks.
I can wash away homes,
Or leave them buried in mud,
Causing a lot of damage
Which man is forced to clean up.

My name is Earthquake.
No one knows when I’ll strike,
But sometimes I do give some signs
Before I really shake things up.
I can cause minor damage
Or destroy many structures
Leaving many people homeless
Until their homes can be rebuilt.

My name is Volcano.
I’ve been known to cause floods,
Shake the ground and smoke
Before I blow my top.
Then when I can no longer hold back,
I explode spewing out hot lava
Destroying everything in the lava’s path
And covering it up with volcanic ash.

Meet the Carbonemys

Carbonemys (Greek for "coal turtle")
Pronounced: car-BON-eh-miss

I am a Carbonemys, a podocnemidid,
An extinct side-necked turtle.
I lived fifty-eight to
Sixty million years ago
During the middle Paleocene period
In swamps of Northeastern Colombia
On the South American continent.

I grew close to ten feet in length
And weighed one ton.
I had a large sized capacious shell.
With my powerful jaws I ate
Comparably sized mammals and reptiles,
Including crocodylians.

I could not retract my head into my shell
Since my neck was too long.
Instead, I bent my neck to one side
So that it laid against my body
And under the ridge of my carapace.

My greatest fear,
Being eaten by a Titanoboa,
A one-ton prehistoric snake.

Jesus Died On a Tree

He was born into this world,
Came to do His Fathers’ work,
He healed those who were sick,
The crippled walked without sticks,
He gave the blind their sight
So they could see the light
As He taught His father’s words
And did His father’s work.

He cast out many devils
From their physical hotels,
He calmed turbulent waves
And raised some from their graves,
Before His final ordeal
Jesus ate his last meal
With the apostles He chose
And the wicked would oppose.

He bled from every pore
For both the rich and the poor
Wherever they may be
On land or across the sea,
Wearing a crown of thorns
He walked a path well worn,
Then they nailed Him to a tree
Where He died for you and me.

Jesus died on a tree,
He died for you and me.
What have you done for Him?
What have you done for Him?

Weep For the Children

Weep for the little ones
Offered as a sacrifice
To an idol god.

Weep for the little ones
Who suffered abuse from
Cruel caretakers and died.

Weep for the little ones
Taken before their time.

But worry not for their souls
For they are with
Jesus in heaven.

Confronting Your Tiger

There comes a time
When one must turn
And face their tiger.

If you cannot confront
Your tiger without fear,
The tiger will own your soul.

One True Friend

When you feel that you are not loved,
That your heart and soul are full of pain,
That you are lost in a world of hate
With no safe place to rest your head,
Then pray to The Man upstairs.

Ask your Heavenly Father to lighten your burdens,
To heal the scars of your past,
To help you find peace in a world of hate,
To give you the strength to move forward with your life
And start a new life filled with joy.

Forgive those that did you harm,
Let the law of the land or the Law of God
Punish those that caused your pain,
Let Jesus Christ into your life
And you’ll have at least ONE TRUE FRIEND.

Just Be You

You can shave off all your hair
Or put it up in a weird hairdo.
You can put on fancy clothes
And act like someone else.
You can pretend to be someone else
Like your favorite hero.

But the end result
Will not change who you are.
So instead of trying to be
Someone you are not,
Work on finding out
Who you really are.

Light Your Spiritual Candle

There is a song
“Light One Candle.”
How many of you have
Lit your spiritual candle?

If this candle is lit,
Is it hid or glowing in the open
Growing brighter and brighter
Each day of your life?

Are you doing all
You can to keep your
Spiritual candle lit?

To keep this candle from going out
You must follow all the
Commandments of God, His dead prophets, and
His living prophets on earth today.

Now a word of warning.
Sin will dim your spiritual candle.
If you sin too much this
Candle will go out.

This candle can be re-lit by
Confessing your sins, sincere repentance and
Return to following God’s commandments
Along with the council of all
His prophets dead or living today.

For God’s light is the
Same today, yesterday and
All eternity.

How bright is your
Spiritual candle?
