You Be You, I'Ll Be Me

I can't be who you want me to be
I've spent my life being who I am
This city life ain't for me
I'm a country boy and a simple man

I don't want to ride in a fancy car
Let's drive my pick up for awhile
A suit and tie just ain't me
Camouflage is more my style

I can't live in a penthouse suite
I like my cabin in the woods
You can keep your concrete streets
I'd drive all dirt roads if I could

It seems that we have different dreams
Of what the perfect life should be
I guess we should go our separate ways
You be you and I'll be me

Reflection

When you look into a mirror
What is it that you see
Is it more than a reflection
Are you who you want to be

Does your image tell a story
When you look in your own eyes
Does it paint for you a picture
Does it make you want to cry

Does it bring back fond old memories
Does it tell you the whole truth
Is the image filled with what's to come
Or a reflection of your youth

When you look into a mirror
What is it that you see
Is it more than a reflection
Are you who you want to be

A Soldier's Plea

Far from home in a yankee prison
A rebel soldier knelt to pray
Father care for my wife and children
If it's my time to pass away

On a field in Pennsylvania
A yankee bullet pierced my chest
Soon they'll take me to Virginia
There my rebel soul shall rest

Let my mama know I loved her
Tell my pa I fought with pride
Show the others down in Dixie
Was for them I fought and died

I was proud to fight for Dixie
Through the hunger and the pain
Please remember this rebel soldier
Or I will have died in vain

My Home Virginia

Carry me to my home Virginia
Headed south through Arlington
We can stop off in Manassas
On our way to Lovingston

Take me back to the Peaks of Otter
Let's return to Mabry Mill
We can drive the Blue Ridge Parkway
From the Meadows of Dan to Charlottesville

We'll stop in Schuyler on the way to Richmond
Watch the trees on the mountain sway
Ride the backroads of Campbell County
And see the small towns along the way

We'll raise some cane out in Bedford
In a field over near the county line
Ride the rails to Appomattox
And stop by Mama's at suppertime

We'll go cruise down the Eastern Shoreline
We'll lay a blanket out on the sand
Watch the ships sail out of Norfolk
And stroll down the beach hand in hand

Let's return back to our hometown
We'll float down the mighty river James
There we remember our favorite memories
And visit with old friends at a cafe on Main

Carry me back to little old Lynchburg
No matter how far I may roam
It's where I made my fondest memories
I'm proud to call Virginia my home

Wish You Were Here

On a mountain ridge beneath the amber sky
The summer sun fades behind the trees
And as the crickets sing a night time lullaby
I sit and wish you were here with me

From the deck of a liner on the ocean blue
Watching dolphins swim beneath the sea
My heart fills my head with thoughts of you
And I sit and wish you were here with me

On a jet airplane high above the clouds
Soaring like an eagle brave and free
A gentle breeze speaks your name aloud
And I sit and wish you were here with me

Tonight in the shadows as I lay awake
I close my eyes and your face I see
I hear your name with every breath I take
As I sit and wish you were here with me

Fredericksburg 1862

It was cold that snowy December night, 1862. We took the hill to stand and fight against the Yankee coats of blue. We charged towards their army near the river down below. From the blades of our Rebel swords the Yankee blood did flow. Their troops had us outnumbered that frigid winter night. But Stonewall Jackson rushed the left while Stuart flanked the right. That dreary night we took the town of Fredericksburg by storm, we fought for Dixie the next 3 nights and through the early morns. Death fell upon the Union troops taking many lives. The wounded laid there crying, wishing they had died. And when the battle finished and the smoke had cleared the air, we looked behind and on that hill our flag was still there. And as the sun went down that eve with harmonica in hand, I sat upon that hill and sang, My Home's In Dixieland. Evermore a soldier, I'll fight until the end. And when my war is over, I'll see my home again. But if I should die tomorrow one thing will sure be true. I survived the battle of Fredericksburg, 1862.

That Feeling

There's a feeling I get when I look in your eyes
It gives my stomach butterflies
It happened the first time we met
I still haven't gotten over that feeling yet

I gaze into your deep, dark eyes
And I begin to realize
My heart is yours, I'm forever in debt
I still haven't gotten over that feeling yet

When you're away from me my heart cries
It's impossible to describe
How empty my soul gets
I still haven't gotten over that feeling yet

No matter how or who may try
You keep me completely mesmerized
On you my heart is completely set
I still haven't gotten over that feeling yet

Last Goodbye

If this were to be our last goodbye
What are the words that you would say
Would there be sorrow in your voice
Or would you simply walk away

Have I meant enough for you to care
Will the tears well up inside your eyes
Can I say anything to make you stay
Or will this be our last goodbye

If this is where we must part
Darling please know that I will try
To realize that our next kiss
Will turn into our last goodbye

Tin Man Scarecrow

Sometimes I wish I was a tin man, and that I didn't have a heart
Cause if my chest was empty, you couldn't tear my world apart
There'd be nothing there for breaking, and you wouldn't make me cry
I wouldn't know whether you'd hurt me, even if you said goodbye

Maybe I should've been a scarecrow, then I wouldn't have a brain
Cause if my head was empty, you wouldn't drive me so insane
You wouldn't make me feel so crazy with the hurtful things you say
I couldn't think that it was my fault even when you went away

Perhaps one day I'll seek the wizard and he will tell me where to find
Happiness inside my heart and sanity within my mind
I'll follow the yellow brick road back to the place I fell apart
Maybe I can find the courage to pick up the peices of my broken heart

Cry To Me

Laugh with me when you are happy
Smile at me when you are glad
Come to me when you are lonely
Cry to me when you are sad

Walk with me through fields of clover
Hold my hand when you are blue
Dry my tears when I am weeping
Cry to me and I'll cry with you

Lean on me in times of trouble
Run to me when you are scared
Look to me when you need comfort
Cry to me and I'll be there

Dream of me when you are sleeping
Sail with me out on the sea
Rest your head upon my shoulder
When you need me, cry to me
