A Soldier's Plea
Far from home in a yankee prison
A rebel soldier knelt to pray
Father care for my wife and children
If it's my time to pass away
On a field in Pennsylvania
A yankee bullet pierced my chest
Soon they'll take me to Virginia
There my rebel soul shall rest
Let my mama know I loved her
Tell my pa I fought with pride
Show the others down in Dixie
Was for them I fought and died
I was proud to fight for Dixie
Through the hunger and the pain
Please remember this rebel soldier
Or I will have died in vain
