The Journey

Though unconscious we are born
In pains we live, we fade, we die
But life like river flows on
Quickly and slowly we pass bye

The wave, the tide
They blow and kick us about
We wrestle, we fight
We cry, we laugh out

Life is for a season
Like flowers in sunrise
The tour for a reason
In life we strive to rise

On the path we stumble
Depressed and forlorn
The undulation unbearable
Bliss! Bliss!! We beckon

Life is really a journey
Some exit, some excel
Like pilgrims we journeyed
Though its path no one can tell

Like wayfarers we progressed
Dark cloud on our path abound
The rain, the sun our goal repressed
Excruciating pains, still we onward bound

Go For It

Life is a dangerous struggle
Full of inconsistencies, challenges and pains
Life is not fair even to the fair skinned
The dark skinned are not faring better either
In everyone's backyard a little rain must drop
Whatever be your lot, set your goals and go for it.

In life, even the rich also cry
The poor in pains and agonies cries ceaselessly
The middle class have no problems 'cause they never existed
The orphans on the street go bare footed and hungry
Everyone is plagued by this turbulent journey called life
Whatever be your lot, set your goals and go for it.

Life is an endless and unpleasant adventure
Ending in one phase and continues in another phase
Beggers beg and no one gives to them
Widows cry and no one hears their voice
Everyone is caught up in this crazy web called life
Whatever be your lot, set your goals and go for it

In life, the religious are not the righteous
The righteous looks rough and rugged
Unnoticed because they have no class
For long we have been in this turmoil called life
And it has promised to continue unabated, no end at sight
Whatever happens, set your goals and go for it

The smart acts smartly by running away
They cross the sea, the Mediterranean sea
Unfortunately, you can't run away from life
Run away from it here and you will meet it there
Even though we're here, I know we'll soon be there
Only if we can set our goals and go for it

Life is everywhere, has no friends, has no foes
Life rewards, reproved and reprimands
Everyone is lotted opportunities in life
And it's their responsibility to take them
The faithful pray while the unfaithful prey
Whatever you do, set your goals and go for it

Life has no end, life has no beginning
Life is an omen, the omen never lies
Life keeps everyone busy on their own lane
Though some lanes are fast, some are slow
But ultimately every vehicle gets to its destination
Only if we can just set our goals and go for it

Life cares for no one, Life is hostile
Life is an excruciating and toilsome lot
Imperfect Life preaches perfection
Unfortunately, no one needs perfection
We're all trapped in this vicious cycle called Life
Whatever be your lot, set your goals and go for it

Hope

When disaster and attacks devastate our homes
When our dreams of success are threatened
When sickness and death stalk our loved ones
She lifts up her head and points us forward

When suffering and death seizes our vicinity
And fear like foe threatens every possibility
When doubts seizes upon our sensibility
Her light brightens our visibility

When fear like guest in our bosoms we host
When depression becomes our lot and fate
She appears from nowhere like a ghost
And tarries with us to restores our faith

She is life, she is light
She shines bright through dark tunnel
She is a companion through the dark night
She is hope and she breaks every turmoil

When I Was Eighteen

When I was eighteen
I entered her virgin land
She absorbed me with esteem
But there was no success at hand

I struggled to raise my head up
To sail above the obstacles
To keep the mantle up
From the unknown expected miracles

Success distanced herself
From the vicinity of the humble
Food, rest, pleasure I rejected myself
Determined and prepared for the rumble

The rumble for greatness
To stand out among equals
To lead a life of happiness
When the expedition is over

The Stolen Mandate

He has a caring heart, he has the passion
He came to his own, his own accepted him
He came to render selfless service to his people
The burden is upon his solder, he's ready to bear it

He set the vision and he is running with it
He has ran, he's still running, He has ran far and wide
He represents leadership, pragmatic leadership
He has consulted, he has consolidated
He has built bridges, he's set to build more

Then they came, they struck, to disrupt the peace, the peace of our clan
To reset and unsettle, to enthrone mediocrity and moribundity
Why do they enjoy lawlessness, brigandage, thuggery?
Why do they, especially in our clan, enjoy conflicts and unrest?
Why do they take delight in heating up the system?
Why do they like arrogating powers they do not have to themselves?
Why do they like parading about like tin gods? Why? Why? Why?
Are they gods? No they aren't. They are mortals.

No election was held yet a winner emerged - what a farce!
The electorates were denied of their civic rights,
They were disenfranchised by self seeking politicians.
The mandate was stolen, the people's mandate.

Ha! This is an omen, I do not see where this will take us.
Now I see, it will take us to damnation, to destruction,
Except the mandate be restored, the people's mandate.

Ah! I heard a voice saying It shall be restored!
Mother Earth shall help us restore it.
God of the sky shall help us restore it.
The Sun, the Moon, the Stars shall help us restore it.
Ivo, Ohaozara, Onitcha shall restore it.
Though it be stolen, it shall be restored.
The people's mandate shall be restored by the people.

The Hired Shepherds

Gone are those times, if ever such times were seen
When rustic shepherds shepherd their flock on nutritive green
Shepherds now lead their sheep to calamity and damnation
But today, the sheeps cry out for urgent and drastic redemption
Weary and tired in their age-long captivities
Now interested in their awakened sensitivities

To each other, they said, there's something we can do
This is our land, the land was here before us
With milk and honey it flows, its territories an oasis of safe haven
Calm was the land, then things began to happen
Our shepherds, our trust, our hearts has broken
And today, their leaky umbrellas we have broken

Falling from darkness to a place of uncertainty
Everything is moving with no recorded velocity
Crawling from the known to the unknown
The sheep sheepishly arrived at the unknown
The change, everything she's changing
No change is this, only a changeling
Hoping for a relief as time and tide passes
Alas! More darkness our territory encompasses

Hired shepherds, their sacred duties have abandoned
In vain hope their wickedness to us by us shall be pardoned
Shepherd umbrella and shepherd broom are just but alike
Our resort and determination to live in all they dislike
For decades something evil has been withholding us
At last we found out it was nothing but ourselves

Tell the lazy sheep, their laziness eschew
Death sentence, their dominance on us ensure
Let sentiment not guide our affairs as mortals
Common sense, our resort controls in total
For our woes, our sentiment endlessly compounds
In unison, our freedom, genuine minds propounds

Cease then that grief, and let those cards decide
If emotion rules us, be that emotion guide
If passion rules us, be that passion pride
If reason, then good reason our minds provide
Their piercing brooms, our flesh have broken
Shall tomorrow, at moon light by grace be broken

Our Political Participation

I've come to say a few things about our political involvement,
Important is this because our future is on the edge of precipice,
And is dangerously tilting irreversibly towards enslavement,
If urgently not arrested we pay the unholy bitter Price.

How easily a people once astute and meticulous,
Got swerved towards the edge of political escarpment,
Punders sane mind, so absurd and so ridiculous,
Though it be inflicted by unnegotiated predicaments.

Then make I bold to interrogate and not to despair,
To investigate, scrutinize and not to speculate,
Prescribing solutions so simple and so straight,
Least I be misjudged and suspiciously at glared.

Despise not that which I say because of its simplicity,
For truths, real truths unadulterated are always simple,
And need not be subjected to unwarranted duplicity,
But be accepted by souls learned and simple.

Is this predicaments not caused by lack of participation?
Was it not caused by poor political permutations?
Are we not plagued by lack of proper political calculation?
When against action we choose unfounded speculations.

Have we not indulged so much in self aggrandizement?
Have we not taken the destructive path to political oblivion?
Have we not despised the Zikist ideology and movement,
When we choose "sit at home" in every election?

Refused we not to galvanize 20 million votes for our leaders?
Have we not disdainfully despised our leaders,
And make it practically impossible to organize us?
When we claimed that politics is not for us?

What else on the negotiation table do we bring,
Except the uncalculated threats of secession?
What if on the table 20 Million votes we bring?
That would grant all our interests protection.

Oh! What is he saying? Does it really matter?
All we want is our freedom from this contraption,
Their political system is bedeviled with corruption,
So we do not want to get involved in their matter.

In the final analysis it does not really matter,
What the political system is - whether it be perfect.
We do not need perfect political systems,
We need political participation that's perfect.

I say this one and I cease to say no more,
I Say not everything for want of time and space,
But that we participate even as we continue to ask for more,
As people of peace who for others set the pace.

Double Identity

Created with a single identity
My dignity, honour depends on that identity
Identity handed to me by Divinity
As Divinity did throughout humanity

Black is my originality, I seek not to lose it
Yet this double identity is forced on me
Ah my identity with white has been dotted
My culture, religion, tradition all stripped off me

The stripes all over me is the limitation
The white patches destroy my black orientation
Left me in an unfavourable, endless competition
Presumed me less a human because of my complexion

Now I want my blackness back, no more this mixture
Like a free bird I want to leap and fly up in the sky
To announce my freedom to the generations unborn
Only when the weight of this double identity is lifted

Love Divine

Love so pure, so holy, earthly and divinely bound
Sweet radiance of ecstatic flow of bliss in thee I found
Drowned in the larvishing citadel of thy immortal love
As in the parlance of a mighty ocean in a torrential move

Love so perfect, love so genuine
(Finding thee was not easy at all)
Love I longed to have from my juvenile
Melodious love radiantly shining bright
As the exceptional effulgence of the moon light

My love for now, my precious love for eternity
My fervent solemn love bounded by purity and unity
Defending thee a clarion call to be heeded unwittingly
As my love is bound to you ever sure and permanently

Unwavering in the presence of transient uncertainty
Ever flowing in harmonious holiness and sanctity
Sweet love, anodyne love, love sapid and innocuous
Wetting thy succulent lips a deed that constantly binds us

In the moment of momentary immortality
As the transitory passage of every mortality
I shalt whisper thy tender love unequivocally
To great pilgrims of love who reign eternally

When the Heart Cries

When the heart cries, the eye wells up
When the heart bleeds, the eye blinds out
For release of tethered emotions piled up
Emotions nurtured within and without

When the heart cries, the eye shudders
From deep bitterness that aches the heart’s kindness
Bitterness nurtured on a beloved shoulder
In a restive quest for tenderness

When the heart cries, the eye sheds tear
From wounds of reckless love
Incubated and nurtured out of fear
The heart cries when out of love

When the heart cries, the eye ails
Groping in the blindness stupor
Strong emotions pile up along love rail
Calm as a child in dreamless slumber

When the heart like the stomach
Fractiously takes in without fill
Well up like balloon stock after stock
Yet it rambles for more still

When the heart cries, the eye yells
From jejune responses to her neediness
When the heartfelt is within the heart walls
When the heart has known no bitterness

When the heart cries, the eye cries
For restitution of her juvenile love and kindness
In those days when trees were evergreen
When breeze swayed the trees in gentle kindness
