At last, Summertime is finally here.
It's time to put away our winter gear;
Show some skin and have a little fun
While soaking up the warm summer sun.
But unbeknownst to you and me
Is a treacherous insect far worse than a bee.
The mosquito lurks beneath the shadows,
Waiting to eat people's legs, arms, and toes.
Yes, this critter has dreamt on the very day
That our sexy bodies will be his buffet.
"This year", he declared without being snooty,
"My targets are the ankles, knees, arms, and booty.
But I cannot do this task alone."
So he calls the Mosquito Squad on the phone.
The plans were made as the day turns to night.
A fellow mosquito yells, "Out goes the light!"
Then the leader says, "Now we strike!
Attack that juicy butt with all your might!"
As they fly with lightning speed,
There was one thing that they didn't heed.
It wasn't noxious gas or the Swatter of Doom,
But all the mosquitoes heard was a loud "KABOOM!'
They hit the ground hard with the other dead flies;
For the Invisible Bug Zapper was their demise.

Its only 4-2
and with nothing else to do
I pen you a poem from my new temporary home
I am in Grants Pass Oregon for 5 days a week
And it's the temp home of which I speak
I put up a Facebook friends looking to hang
but ran into a bunch of dudes who wanted to bang... ah yeah
So I modified my post, made it clear it's karaoke or a meal
and not a come on for sexual appeal
lets be friends hey, well opened it up to ladies too
and bam, I got a slew of... women wanting to date ( and a few who want a sugar mamma...
So ... My days have been spent reading mostly
And a bit of naps, this radiation is frightening
And I hung out with a local friend for a day
and I am watching webinars to educate my ways
And I am working out to get fit
and I am eating well, home made
last night was salad and shrimp.. scampi (yeah)
And I am only 10 more days in the bug zapper YAHOO
and then its recover my mojo a bit and take stock too
And life begins again in 10. - Artimus (C) Susan Manley 4/2/2024

“the fate of winter moths”
sitting on the stoop, concrete sodden with
the chill of late winter. the air
acquires a coolness like your first breath
after confessional. the Christmas lights
illuminate the porch in a motley of whites
and oranges. the tangerine glow casting
warmth while the sun is taking his smoke
break. Two sounds permeate the crisp air
rising up to my ears like a swan through
inky lake water: the languid boughs
sighing in the wind, scraping their emaciated
limbs together in contemplation and the
fatal buzz of my neighbor’s bug zapper.
It stands watch like a plum King’s Guard,
never resting in his duty; an amethyst firebrand.
The absence of the mosquito’s persistent drone
is chilling, and its deafening vacancy amplifies the
cruel cut of the bug zapper.
In this quiet cacophony
I think that letting moths fall prey to an
undeserved, mauve, electric death is the cruelest
thing I’ve ever known.
I creep back up the
steps and cast a wary
look into my neighbor’s
grimey window and am
shocked to see them
sleeping peacefully.

Her jittery tattoo jiggled as the jagged queen walked to the kitchen.
To what degree are things amiss? She asked the eccentric cook.
The barley beer is bitter, the chef replied. He was always ’n.
What is that kooky bug zapper doing in here? Queen gave him a look.
Sapphire put it in he said, affixing blame on his assistant cook.
Upon her return, Sapphire challenged his assertion and he turned yellow.
She shared her hot apple turnovers and was promoted to head cook.
Waffles are my specialty she said as they led out the disgruntled fellow.

I have compassion, at least that’s what I try to tell my children.
I can’t even find it within me to kill a mosquito anymore,
and I hate those little bloodsucking mosquitoes, but the sound
the zapper makes when a little unsuspecting mosquito flies
into that little purple light and I hear the crackling sound and spark,
Zzzzzzpt, all I can think about is the pain inflicted before it’s death,
and I remember my husband thinking how helpful he was being
by buying that zapper and showing me how well it worked.
I smiled, and acted appreciative, but after he died I threw it away.
I guess the heart grows more tender as we age and we reflect more
on life and death and how every creature God made has its right to live.
Yes, I do have compassion, yet my children have more than I do
and that is a great thing because that means I have taught them well.

Sweltering summer temperatures
and warm sultry summer nights
left me scratching my legs red raw
I hate receiving nasty insect bites
I’d slather bare limbs with cream
that the chemist had given me
Bites are an issue that I live with
itchy red legs are quite unsightly
Every beach dress skims the earth
and I ensure I spray all my skin
But these heartless hungry critters
find a gap and they get stuck in!
I’ve spent all my hard earned cash
yet have been unable find a cure
Why can’t these creepy crawlies
abstain, their bites I can’t endure
A friend suggested that I purchase
a new-fangled electric bug racquet
It zaps the pesky bugs with each swat
and E-Bay didn’t charge me a packet!
The package arrived back in May
with my electric zapper I’m smitten
I’ll carry it with me all summer
I am certain I’ll never get bitten!

me
being
a mere
insect
instinctively
being
taken in
by light
i find i'm
being
blind
sided
blinded
by the light
but i must
have you
so just
fly
into the
electric
arms of
your bug

Swing like a tennis pro
Swoosh as badminton flow
Dance and twril as you whirl
The magic bug zapper racket
See a bug I fling to attack it
Keep that button down
Brave electric courrent sound
Die little insect die
Goodbye you nasty fly
Mosquito a crisp bye bye
No wasp or mean bee
Better never threaten me
If I hear a buzzing sound
Now I can hold my ground
Armed with my bug zapper in hand
I am in command, Mother Nature understands
Slap a roach on the wall
Poor spider no place to crawl
Any bug I see
Sting them before they sting me
To the strong the world belongs
Total power gives you calm
Tiny vermin a slap a pat
A tush moving swoosh
A graceful wave a playful swing
In my hand my bug zapper I cling
Slight twist of the wrist bugs burn crisp
Now my space a bliss
Gone all tiny pest
Bug zapper I could kiss
As burnt lip and fringe hair confess

“Nature Lover” my byline,
Hell, I even like girls
But where I draw the line
Is mosquitos and squirrels.
Love how bug zapper spark fries,
Pellet gun is so nice,
Squirrel’s carcass on ice,
Tiny smoke clouds from trap rise.
With the clean sent of ozone
Starting off each new morn,
Longer lasting than ****,
Hanging bushy tail tombstone
That now decorates plum tree.
This is really no vice,
Just some friendly advice,
That for me is eye candy.
Maybe you think me shallow,
This world diamonds and pearls?
Sure as hell is below,
There’s mosquitos and squirrels.

one of those flies
circling round the bug zapper
like there was no tomorrow
moving closer & closer
zooming in, zooming out
oblivious to how many of its friends were just
completely fried
only moments ago,
and then it does itself in
mashing its very being into the machine designed to
eliminate it---
like icarus to the sun,
like a naïve little sheep
who has wandered their way into a pack of
lean & hungry
wolves.

Vidtec and US Games were made for the Atari VCS.
Some of them were great while others were a mess.
US Games and Vidtec were a division of Quaker Oats.
But the creators found it extremely difficult to stay afloat.
Their best games were Space Jockey, Commando Raid, and M.A.D. too.
But US Games went out of business just one year after beginning in 1982.
They made several good games; not including Word Zapper.
People should've taken that game and thrown it in the crapper.
Another of their crappy games was Sneak 'N Peek.
The fireman on Towering Inferno looked like he was taking a leak.
When they hit the shelves, they didn't start disappearing.
But the $5.50 price tag at Revco made them endearing.
None of their fourteen games became a hit.
Some liked them while others didn't give a Sh**.
(THIS POEM IS ABOUT GAMES THAT WERE MADE FOR THE ATARI 2600/VCS.)
