Wolf Down Poems

Premium Membermy pretty pink pig pet

Middle Fiddle Faddle and a Rah Rah Raw
Bacon is not in my vocabulary sang Rowdy Dah.
I have a gorgeous pet, she is my pretty pig, Pet.
She has never had to wolf down any garbage yet.

Others throw out disgusting slop to their hogs.
I am picky about what I throw Pet and my two dogs.
They are her best friends and follow her around the house.
We keep our pets persnickety clean, none of them have louse.

The Man That Made Heaven

His body fell away in parceled shadows.
His mind headed for a mountain cabin he had
hammered together with the long soft nails
of desire.

That first winter was hard,
ground had to be cleared,
wood had to be cut and stacked,
the cabin sealed against gnawing winds.
At night bears explored his defenses,
snow storms probed.

He had to hunt small game to eat,
he set traps. Always cold, exhausted,
and famished,
At night, crazy with hunger,
he would boil the scant food
until he could wolf down
the scalding partly-cooked meat.

He grew thin and wiry. His beard long.
He began to track and bring down deer.
For long days he could rest
as Spring came
to dance lightly on the mountain.

That summer the sheriff drove
then hiked up to pay the newcomer a visit.
He had heard that a dead man had
cleared some acres.

They shared a comfortable smoke
on the front deck.
Then the sheriff asked:

Why he had not moved on
to where most dead folks go to?

He replied:

I was looking for a higher heaven,
one that still needed some climbing.

The Sheriff nodded in agreement.

One Looks Up

Monochrome winds fantail snowdrifts.
Fleck-churned sparks maw feathery flights
and a howling backdraft
spikes matted fur.
Pawing winds spring traps clenched,
injurious icicled haunches hollowed.
A smothering whiteness whistles

through yellow teeth, a smoldering
witness from snow that isn't snow,
(one homeless person's jaw drops, he looks up,)

I wolf down yogurt that drips off the plastic sides,
whitening the Los Angeles sunshine
where some homeless rest on the reflective sidewalk,
all but one, the nimbus of his mouth quakes.

When One Is Rude

I maintain we are rude
Not only when our manners are crude,
Determinedly wolf down our food,
Our dressing hopelessly nude,
Publicly start a feud,
Into others affairs intrude,
Keep laughing as others brood
But also when others are in a meditative mood
And have up stood
And we are still sitting down
Like one waiting for a cup of coffee, chocolate brown!

Premium MemberMy Fair Poem

Fair is a pretty fair word
It usually means something good
As fair as a sunny, clear sky
I pull out my easel and try...

O, no fair! I can't draw worth a lick
Though I can wolf down any fare you can pick
Put away a fair amount of food fairly quick

Come summer, try our unique County Fair
Until then, fare thee well ~ take good care

Premium MemberA Wolfish Throwback

I wolf down my food
in a gluttonous way
chomp chomp slurp slurp
Gnash gnash slurp slurp
A throwback to a previous incarnation
When I actually was a wolf, or a werewoman?
Tummy full, I rumble off into the night.
Howling now at the moon, on my favorite granite slab.
Am I scaring you, Luna? I ask, showing my red teeth.
Full of cherry Koolaide, but looking much more fierce.
Luna laughs, exposing my truth, then she winks.
She recognizes me no matter what form I take.
Her recognition causes me to slow down and pretend niceness.
Okay to be myself now, I wait for my cubs, who are struggling to keep up with my fierceness.

Premium MemberA Sheep In Wolf's Clothing

In my fantasies I wolf down all my food
'Course that way it doesn't taste too good
I also stand on a hill and howl at the moon
Then again, those nights can't end too soon...

In my dreams I torment the three little pigs
Yet I can never blow down the third one's digs
And every time I try to fool Little Red Riding Hood
I wind up thrown out of my house, and into the woods...

My greatest wish was always to have been Wolfman Jack
But back then it was courage I undoubtedly lacked
Yet now that I'm brave enough to publicly yelp 'woof, woof'
I'm content just to be myself -- simple, plain Gershon Wolf!

It was January 1st and God had my day planned,
This day, at my door, the Grim Reaper would stand.
For I was in the throes of Sudden Cardiac Arrest,
And only eight percent survive this harrowing test.

God averted my death by the dread “Widow Maker,”
Now, to oblige my Doctors I’m a daily note taker.
What I’m now allowed to eat I wolf down unflavored,
But despite all this, I feel blessed and most favored.

When Dreams Come True- 128 Words

WHEN DREAMS COME TRUE,
  I’ll be with you-
           ‘til that day’s here,
  I’ll crave you near.

   I heard you cry,
         and asked you why-
  You said you knew,
          you loved me too.

 Then why’d you go,
    like an ebb flow?
I thought you’d stay,
‘ 'til our last day.

    'Twas dusk when I,
tried not to cry-,
          I felt the pain,
  my heart in chains.

       Like a lone doe,
I’m filled with woe-
   Like a wolf down,
            I wear a frown.

      Ten years of love,
we soared like doves-
           I can’t take this,
  I miss your kiss.

        You held my hand,
  you were my man-
          I was your heart,
right from the start.

       Morn shall come soon,
  there’ll be no boon-
        No blithe for me,
                              JUST GRIEF…you’ll see.

Dark Wolf Down

Dark wolf down
in Lost Ravine
shot and killed
somewhere
between,

yesterday
and three o'clock
sleek form lying
on black rock

White wolf
howls
across blue skies
grey clouds
gather in her eyes

lightning strikes

as she descends

to spill the bright red

blood of men.
