(September 14, 1983 – July 23, 2011)
Here lies Amy Winehouse under a rock,
who tasted vinegar in tomatoes
and took her time to open the padlock
for those entering Home Guard,
who were found below the bard,
let them remember her next fine toes.

Your flick of eyeliner,
Tattoo's and beehive
A bit of rock and roll,
something of Jazz or Jive.
Your authentic words
ingrained in our memory
Listening to the beats,
tapping along to the melody.
The sultry, smokiness
the range of your voice,
We're right there with you
the moment you soar.
As you up the rhythm
taking us on a
Nostalgic, Jazz filled ride.
When we saw how they hounded you
We felt that knock to your pride.
Your determination,
uniqueness and drive
Inspired us women,
Man you did shine.
Watched you grasp onto the feeling's
to help release a little pressure.
Inhale the love before it became a bit lesser.
Back to Black when he went back to her.
You sang us through the hurt,
Coming down from the high.
We sang along with you,
We heard your heart sigh.
Walking around a little shattered and broken
A hole in your heart, alone and unspoken
Clutching to something to fill the void
Is it a hunger, a lack of nurturing and care.
When we need it the most hope somebody is there.

I want to be her memories
That last *** taste
The truth upon the liars lips
The gentle disgrace
Dementia's knowing face
Each tear to nothing
i return
Darkness sheltered in my shadow
She makes me gentle and tender
And so hard to explain
No trickery in her game
The forgiveness of my shame
The guilt that feels no pain
I return
back to black
until you call my name

Gentle child
Sweet angel
Heaven waits
Melody and Jazz were your life
Drugs and drink was your comforter
Sadness was your greatest weakness
No one understood
Sleep my angel
Take a look
Heaven calls
Today the stars are shining brightly
Pain, sadness, weakness, empty promises no more
Words reveal in songs
Answered prays
Stories unvale
Songs written by a bottle
Tales spoken from the heart
Music and songs made you untouchable
Sleep my child
Sorrow no more
Here is your lullaby
Here is your song
Darkness no more.

I did not know her music,
But I’ve read of her travails.
It seemed that all her problems
Only ratcheted her sales.
Her concerts made the news because
She barely could perform;
For her, intoxication
And/or drug use was the norm.
Like Kurt Cobain before her,
And like Jimi, Janis, Jim*,
Her talent seemed authentic,
Her survival chances slim.
It really is a shame to hear
That someone is found dead
At the age of twenty-seven,
With a lifetime still ahead.
But tortured souls have got to do
Whatever they are drawn to,
And we can only wonder ‘bout
The places they have gone to.
It’s sad to be so talented
But plainly, quite tormented.
I’d rather have less talent
But be somewhat more contented.

when i heard about her death
i ran out to buy her record
something about her death to me
made her music much much better
someone from this world was taken
far too soon than usual
they say they offered her some help
but all they got was her refusal
